We really enjoyed Bluespoon! We weren't in the mood for a super huge meal so we decided to split a dinner and dessert and it was simply perfect! The rigatoni and tiramisu were just delectable. The perfect amount of flavors paired with simplicity, which we appreciate. Our servers were absolutely fantastic and might be some of the best service we have received in Europe. We understand service is different than the states and we are ok with that so when our servers brought all the awesome and then some, it made the experience even more fun and enjoyable. I have been working on my Dutch and our servers loved going back and forth related to words I didn't understand. They also let me practice. Extra points! Make sure to check out the bathrooms. Sounds like a wild thing to say but the art on the way there is spectacular and weird. Everything I can ever wish for. Cocktails at the bar are some of the best I've ever experienced, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Beware, the tasting menu portions are really small, not good value. I would recommend ordering à la carte instead. I have been dying to have cocktails in this bar for almost a year, Bluespoon is located inside the 5 Star Andaz Hotel which is owned by the Hyatt and has an innovative cocktail menu which follows enviromental such as no straw and close the loop programs to help prevent waste. Service in the beginning was phenomenal and totally up to my expectations. The cocktails (which start at 12EUR all the way up to 22EUR per drink) are delicious and artfully made, they each have a history and are inspired by Alice in Wonderland. I had the Through the Looking Glass (which also happens to be my favorite book :D) and it is a beautiful inky blue and topped with edible flowers and rose water, it is a play on a Whiskey Sour is as whimsical and beautiful as the pictures I saw on Instagram. My friend had the Smoked Manhattan which spelled amazing. I then had the Hibiscus Clockwork which was nice, citrusy and light topped with a lime and star anise. My Friend then had the Falling and Falling which is topped with apples and cinnamon. The wait staff is very nice and completely willing to answer any questions about the cocktail menu. These things are all very nice, however during our time there 5 adults and 4-6 small children came in. The children then proceeded to run shrieking all through the Lobby and Restaurant. They were even on the stairs down to the spa and restrooms, completely out of view of their parents. Whlle I think that parents should be parents first of all I think a little responsibility belongs to hotel, bar and restaurant staff to ensure ALL guests have a nice time, which does not include screaming children and maneuvering around children children on staircases when trying to use the restroom. When I brought this up first to a receptionist, who was very nice, sympathetic and promptly went for higher management when I asked. I was then asked by 4 people if I was being helped while standing at the reception desk waiting for someone higher up (who I didn't ever see) which let's me know the hotel does indeed care about service and personal experience. A server from the bar also came and asked me if the bar service itself was good, I assured it was but that I didn't come to this particular location to feel like I was in a McDonald's Playland (with a 70EUR bill for 2 people with only 4 drinks, I don't find this to be an unreasonable expectation). I was then approached by the bartender who served my first drinks, he led me to believe that he was in charge of the whole hotel for the night (which I know just from common sense couldn't possibly be true), I chose not to argue this point. I once again for the 3rd time explained my feelings on essentially being chased away from the bar because of the badly behaving children. I was informed that he would never say anything to any guest to try and make them feel uncomfortable, though my own comfort didn't seem to be an issue for him. He did offer to serve us in another location however the children where running through every possible area (unless I wanted to sit in the garden in the rain) and we had already paid our bill. When I asked how this would be remedied in the future, I was told nothing would be done because guests were guests, unless you're the one with an issue apparently. I then poised my point as "In the future what is to prevent me from going to Tales and Spirits (another fantastic cocktail bar in Amsterdam) over Bluespoon in the future if this is a possible recurring situation?" I was answered with "Tales and Spirits is a cocktail bar in the Red Light District and BlueSpoon was a hotel bar". To explain Tales and Spirits is an 11 minute walk across Amsterdam to the Red Light district and Bluespoon is actually a 2 minute closer walk to the Red Light district. I pointed this out and was told I was wrong, this was not my main point so I let it go. When I then asked, "So in the future I should go to Tales and Spirits?" I was informed that I should. This was very disappointing considering I didn't consider this just a "hotel bar" as if I was at a Best Western and having a vodka cranberry. the price point alone indicates this is not the case. I also found it disappointing that I was treated as if I was a dumb tourist, though he had been informed I lived in the Netherlands, who didn't know what I was talking about and was just being unreasonable about other guests. I was hoping for a better resolution because my expectations were high, I love Alice in Wonderland (which is kinda the theme of the hotel and the bar menu), and the price points on all the menus plus the price of the rooms, indicates I should have a much better ambiance and experience when dealing with "management", I certainly didn't expect to be told to go ahead and take my business elsewhere in the future, especially since there are plenty of places in the city I can certainly go for craft cocktails. read more

Had a great dinner here on our last night in Amsterdam. Wanted to enjoy this amazing hotel (The Andaz) which houses the Bluespoon restaurant. One nice feature of this place is the open kitchen and its proximity to the tables. Makes you feel like you are in someones' home with friends cooking for you. The also have a chefs table which is literally in the kitchen right on top of the action. The food was top notch, check out the food porn photos...and service was attentive and friendly. It was a tad pricey, but it was a premium experience in a premium hotel, so did not seem out of line. Also to note, they have an outstanding mixology program coming out of their bar, not to be missed. read more

This review is about the Sunday brunch at Bluespoon. After hearing about their special Sunday menu, I decided to give it a try. They recommend making a reservation on their website, but we were lucky to get a table without making one. In fact, there were just 2 more groups dining at around 1:30PM. The selection on offer is quite good, especially considering that the a la carte menu is on the more expensive side. There are two kinds of buffets available - a breakfast selection, and a brunch selection, which while being slightly more expensive than the former also comes with more offerings. The spread is laid out nicely and is fresh. We decided to go for the a la carte menu simply because we didn't care much about the meats on offer on the buffet. I went with the French toast while V decided to get pancakes. You get a choice of syrups/butter, and we got maple syrup and cranberry sauce. It was alright - well made, but nothing very special. I would probably prefer IHOP over these anyway ;) Alongside the sweet stuff, we decided to get the only vegetarian sandwich option on the menu - pumpkin, cheese, and cherry tomatoes. It was quite good and was enough for the two of us. You get to choose between a salad or house fries. The fries were awesome! We were lucky to be able to sample the dessert buffet. There was a decent selection of crumble, macaroons, mousse, cookies, etc. All fairly good, but nothing too outstanding or worth coming over for unless you're already staying at the hotel. The service started out being terrible, but ended up being decent. This is a TOP KNOTCH restaurant with amazing service. I happened to be staying in the hotel where this restaurant is, so I don't think it's a great place for solo travelers, as the menu is built for 3-5 courses per party. However, I didn't feel like going out on the town so they were 100% able to accommodate me! I had a 2 course meal with a wine pairing. Exactly what I wanted to wind down my night. read more

Food: We ordered one Frikandel (two small pieces, but good), one Seafood Soup (I've had better seafood soups in my day and it lacked a bit of flavor), one Cauliflower Steak (this one was the winner of the evening) and one order of the rustic fries which were good. Drinks: We ordered one glass of the Ruinart blanc de blanc, two classes at the Ruinart Brut, and two glasses of rosé. Price: €120 EUR Service: For the most part it was good. The bartenders were very friendly. Ambiance: Cozy and posh. We sat at the bar which is very wide and you can sit around the bar with the bartenders. Would I go back? My friend forgot she had a reservation for Restaurant Week, luckily I am the kind of friend that sacrifice herself to go with her last minute and have a hopefully good meal. Well then...wasn't disappointed (yet slightly shocked when we got the bill) We didn't go for the restaurant week menu and decided to have something from the regular menu: king crab, oxtail salad, sea bass and neck veal with sweetbread. Let me tell ya: it was seweeeet! Combined with some good wine pairing and excellent and friendly service it restored my faith in Dutch restaurants. It's not a cheap place, after all it's part of a 5* hotel, hence my slightly shocked facial expression - not charming i tell ya! -so will not go there on a daily base (I wish I could) but would defo recommend anyone to go, for business, romance or just a relaxed evening. Amazing service! Wow, I felt like I was a friend being welcomed back and it was my first time. So warm, so friendly. Open kitchen so you feel like you are in the living room at a friend's house watching them cook dinner. I had asparagus soup that was amazing. Rich, but light and creamy. So warm and soothing. Scallops for dinner could have been cooked a minute more but were delish. Cappuchino for desert with a fantastic chocolate cherry oat cookie. Yummmmmm! It will be my first stop when I return. We opted for the tasting menu and I am so happy with did as we got a chance to try so many different and equally delicious things. Service was impeccable and the setting even better - impressive view of the kitchen and chefs. Sitting so close to the kitchen surprised us as we couldn't hear any noise, talk or dishes banging from the kitchen. It was like a well oiled machine. Serene and enjoyable. Will definitely be back when in Amsterdam. And on top of that, restaurant is located in Andaz Amsterdam, one of my favorite hotel chains... It is so well designed and decorated, with a beautiful artistic garden - this hotel is an art piece itself. read more

This weekend we went to Bluespoon with a group of friends to celebrate an upcoming birthday as well as the holiday season. The organizer was looking for something festive and gezellig and she certainly found it at Hotel Andaz's restaurant. The atmosphere at the restaurant was elegant, warm and inviting. We were sat in an alcove of the dining room that was reminiscent of the dining room in a private home with the table as the centerpiece and just enough room to move around without tripping over each other. The alcove was surrounded by windows on all but one side-the side which opened to the rest of the restaurant. The nice thing about this was that we weren't relegated to a separate room that may have lacked some of the personality of the main restaurant. It still felt very much a part of the main restaurant while maintaining some of the private party feel. I'll start with service. The staff were consistently attentive and service was great. This is worth a mention in any Amsterdam establishment as it is not a given. We started off with a bottle of champagne, compliments of the manager. (This may have been due to the fact that he knew the birthday girl.) This was followed by wine service and family style, pre-selected appetizers. We were informed that we would be having the special December menu which included the aforementioned appetizers, one of three mains and a selection of desserts. The starters included generous amounts of oysters, duck pate, king crab, roasted root vegetables, beef tartare and, mmm, maybe I'm missing another. I took the vegetarian route that evening and the root vegetables were delicious. Cooked to perfection-just a little bit crunchy and flavor mostly reliant on the veggies themselves. Other members of the group savored the Oysters (I will never savor oysters of any kind) and the crab and I noticed that the only thing left on serving dishes was the tartare. This could be more a result of the tastes of our group rather than the taste of the dish. Our choices for mains were venison, pumpkin truffle risotto, or perch. Almost everyone ordered the venison and it was well-liked. It came with delicious mashed potatoes which, if I were to ever go back to Andaz, might be my main dish, frites, which seemed a bit odd considering the mashed, and ratatouille. I along with another veggie, ordered the risotto. They added some mushrooms to mine at the suggestion of the waitress. The mushrooms were tasty however the risotto overall was mainly seasoned with salt. It was an OK dish, but I wouldn't go back for it. Dessert looked impressive. It needs to be said that dessert is my favorite part of any meal and therefore for me, the most anticipated. I heart a restaurant that takes dessert seriously. The good people at Andaz certainly did. They brought out a variety of delights including cheesecake, chocolate mousse, some sort of pastry with a cranberry sauce (I poured that cranberry sauce on everything it was so good), and platters of fresh fruit. Everything looked amazing. Very well presented and it was assured that there was enough for everyone to try everything. Unfortunately, beyond the overall presentation and of course the delectable cranberry sauce, dessert fell flat for this sweet tooth. The chocolate mousse was OK and the cheesecake was only tasty when doused with said cranberry sauce. A disappointment for sure but it isn't like we were going to go home hungry. The foodies in our group are in equal parts wine-lovers. I did not partake that evening, a rare occasion but I had been feeling ill the day before and wanted to play it safe. Is it wrong to express relief that my fellow red lovers were disappointed with their grapes? What a shame. A gourmet meal such as ours really demanded an appealing wine. Nevertheless, the bulk of the group took the nondiscriminatory route and copious glasses were filled and refilled. The bill was a bit of a shock at first-110EUR per person, not including tip. However, in hindsight, it was likely about 70 EUR pp and then drinks before, during and after. Still, at 70 EUR for the food, I would have liked to have been able to write something a bit more spectacular about the food. Bottom line? A fantastic spot. The hotel is killer with some outrageous design ideas and features. The restaurant is very good and fits in nicely. It has an open kitchen design and is quite the hot spot. Dinner was terrific although, not wanting a big meal, we had mostly appetizers and the Halibut tartar was fantastic. the oxtail salad was impressive and the menu showed some imaginative flair. The service is terrific and Johann the hotel's director is everywhere. He really makes it happen. We went back the next day to see the Gay Pride parade from the bar and had more great food and wine. The place was really jumping and we had a ball. Next time that is the place to stay. I'll give it five when I've tried some entrees but can't wait to go back. read more

I have just been to BlueSpoon Restaurant for the Sunday brunch I was very disappointed and upset. I found Bluespoon on an Amsterdam website that wrote a description that it was a Buffet Brunch with a plated egg dish. Well upon our arrival we were given a tasting menu of sorts. A waitress came over and told us to sit back and enjoy, well i asked where the buffet was and she said oh we did away with that in September. Well maybe they should update there critics so people know what they are in for. There is a small bite to start and i do not eat red meat so my substation was a teaspoon of hummus with a slice of artichoke in a tiny teacup my niece would use to feed her dolls. Our Main course were tasty but don't worry you will not be over fed, i think the duck brest that was served was less than 2 ounces. Then we proceeded to wait 1 more hour for our cheese and desert course and the final course was chocolates and cookies and I had to ask why we were not served this yet and was told oh u didn't want coffee. Its part of the menus. Finally i complained because the waitress never came back to our table we had different people wondering and serving if u can call it that. The final straw was i wanted to pay and it took 15 minutes for them to find the credit card machine. So eat at your own risk. If you don't mind poor service. read more

Very odd experience. Friday night, fairly empty yet erratic service...sometimes attentive, more often forgetful and innatentive. The $35 three course option for dinner is a good deal, and the food is quite good. Mussel appetizer didn't seem grilled and was nice but boring. Entree delicios and the pumpkin creme brûlée was good too. If the service had been better, and the space less depressing I might have given 3 stars. read more
