My partner and I came here with our dog on the evening of July 4; this place was luckily open and serving food until 10pm. With the dog we knew we had to sit outside on the porch which was fine. I put my name in and I was told it would be an hour. It turned out it was a little over an hour, which was fine. We were seated outside and while our waitress was very nice, she was a little scatterbrained. We got waters and our order taken, but our drinks didn't come out until after other tables (seated after us) had received their drinks and appetizers. We eventually received our food; it was fine, the nachos were the best option. I wish the bbq sauce had been less sweet. We never got more water; we did get another round of drinks but my second beer came out way ahead of my partners and then the waitress had to ask him for his order again. Ultimately this is a fine choice for the area but I'm not sure what else I would get on the menu, so I probably would not return. read more

DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE! Not sure why this establishment is rated as one of the best places in Boone because it is absolute garbage! To start the cocktails are not good and certainly nothing special! I order a Sazerac and was given a less than stellar an old fashion with a lemon rind roll. Then we tried the so-called best brussel sprouts ... Poorly pan-fried , and over oiled with a mediocre balsamic reduction .. didnt eat more than 3 bites. 10/10 food was amazing. Service was very nice our waitress was great. We came after an App football game and they put our name down and we were seated sooner than expected. We came in to town looking for our favorite place to eat, only to find out it closed. So we came here, and now have another favorite place to come to. Staff is very friendly, relaxing atmosphere, easy vibes can be found here, along with great food and drinks. Food is very tasty, price per portion size is good, and there is menu choices for all. Our server made sure we had a great meal and a good conversation. Glad we stopped in, y'all come on in, yes this place does get busy, but we know why. read more

Had a fantastic dinner! It was quite busy on this Monday night and we had to wait 20 minutes for a table, but enjoyed a drink at the bar while waiting. They have numerous craft draft offerings! The restaurant itself was warm and lively with a lot of tasteful artistic flair. For dinner, I had their Cuban sandwich, which is served on naan - a bit unorthodox, but it was an incredible combination! My wife had the Blackened Goat Cheese Burger and she said that it was one of the top five burgers she has ever had! Service was adequate. Looking forward to a return visit! read more

Good place. It was very cold out when we went, so we had to wait out in a screened-in area with other freezing patrons. Once we got in, we enjoyed the place. The hot toddies were a very welcome treat. Otherwise, the meals and the overall vibe were good. I would go back, but maybe on a warmer, less crowded day. read more

I am being generous with 2 stars. Parking is difficult. Road construction out front makes it so. Had Sunday brunch. Party of 3. Waited about 25 mins to get in. Front door was drafty and let lots of cold air in. Server was friendly and courteous. Ordered simple breakfast, salmon eggs Benedict, stuffed French toast, and truffle fries for appetizer. Truffle fries were delivered, about 10-15 minutes after ordering, and were cold. Food came 2 minutes later with cold food temperatures as well. Food tasted ok. I would recommend brunch somewhere else. read more

Service, food and atmosphere were all great. The Best Brussell Sprouts anywhere hands down. Our table had Philly cheese steaks, Trout and 1/2 Chickens. Great flavor, hearty portions and thoroughly enjoyed our food. We tried to walk in initially the first night in town but 1.5 hour wait. Next Visit a couple days later and made reservations, all good and will be back. read more

Horrible service. We were here for probably a hour and a half, in all of that time we ate for 10 minutes. I mean the time I finally got my food I couldn't even enjoy it. Our waitress came to our table 2 times the entire time, did not check up on us once or to tell us it will be a wait we are backed up. Absolutely nothing. I am very truthful about my eating experiences and this was a very disappointing one. I would absolutely never come here ever again and I do not suggest anyone else waste their time here. read more

This was our first time ordering at The Local. We came on Sunday Brunch and there were so many tasty options to choose from. They have mimosa deals and irish coffee!! I'm gluten free and I got the Truffled Florentine on Gf bread and it was delicious!! The Huevos Rancheros was soooo big and my partner couldn't finish it! Great spot for family and friends to get together! It gets busy at nights with a lively energetic vibe. Seating was fairly quick however it took a while for the food to come out but once it got to our table we were amazed by how delicious everything was. The pesto pasta was not over powering it had the perfect amount of flavor and balance. The tomato mozzarella sandwich was so filling but also light. I really enjoyed the fresh mozzarella taste along with the hint of pesto on the toasted bread. The asparagus was also cooked well with great seasoning. Overall great place to eat n' talk! read more

Great restaurant!!! My husband and I are on a "trying new restaurants" kick for 2026! We were referred to this place by my hair dresser. It's sort of like a mid-level eat in (not expensive but better food than chilis). We were not disappointed. The food was great. The first time we went, we ordered several appetizers and shared. They were great!!! The second time we went, we had sandwiches and flatbread. The Brussel sprouts are WONDERFUL!! We've also never had bad service. The servers are mostly from App State University. Had a wonderful brunch here to end a long weekend in the mountains and we'll be back! Lots of easy parking in downtown Boone and on Sundays the town lots were free. We arrived as they opened and snagged a spot at the bar. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The coffee is excellent - like better than expected at a casual spot like this. We started with the Brussels and the sauce was so excellent. We split two entrees - chicken and waffles and the Van Life (fancy avocado toast). Both were nicely balanced and filling. read more

The food concepts and interior were great, but my food was very under salted and our nachos were cold. The kids pizza was burnt on the bottom but still tasted good. Still a very popular place as we had a 30 minute wait. Parking is always an issue in downtown Boone. Once we were seated our drinks came out quickly. We shared an appetizer of cheese curds which were quite a long wait to come out but we're tasty and hot. Our entree also took awhile to come out but again, was worth the wait as my tacos were delicious. Baja shrimp tacos are Beer battered shrimp with shredded romaine, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, cilantro, queso fresca & spicy chipotle served on flour tortillas. Food is abundant and tasty, service good, just don't be in a rush as it could be awhile till food is cooked. read more

Hey Donna! We do not require reservations, however, when we are on a wait, we use the bar for full dinner service. When there is a waiting list we invite the next people at the top of our waitlist to sit there and have dinner with us. :)

Also the place is kind of big and they also have a stage for the live bands. The bands that played that day were pretty rad I think all of them were local bands. I think it's great that this place supports local bands. I really like that they had collection of skateboards on wall. Addtionally I would've given this place a 5 star but they don't serve mixed drinks only beer which is a bummer for me. So I didn't get to drink because of that and also one of the reasons we left. If you're ever in Boone, NC, make sure to stop by The Local in downtown Boone for a memorable dining experience! Nestled in a cozy, lively spot downtown, this place brings a mix of flavors and dishes that will surprise you. We kicked things off with the Thai Beef Tidbits appetizer, and let me tell you--at first, pairing Thai-inspired flavors with sweet plantain sounded unusual, but it was a perfect blend of savory and sweet. The beef was tender and well-seasoned, and the sweetness of the plantains balanced the bold flavors beautifully. For the main course, we ordered the Brazilian Char-Grilled Steak and the Southern Steak Philly with truffle fries on the side. The Brazilian steak was grilled to perfection, with a smoky char that highlighted its richness. Meanwhile, the Southern Steak Philly was flavorful and hearty, with the truffle fries adding that extra touch of indulgence. In a rare occurrence I found myself in the town of Boone, NC, without a clue of where we were going to eat. Looking around for the criteria of at least four stars I stumbled upon a place that redefined my taste bud game and expectations of all Cubans going forward. --The Local. Buckle up, because this joint is a flavor paradise. Let's start with the appetizer that blew my mind: the Spinach Artichoke dip. Now, I've had my fair share of dips, but this one took the cake. I couldn't stop shoveling it into my mouth, especially when paired with their house made tortilla chips. I could have ate the dip without the chips it was so good. But hold on to your hats, because the real showstopper was the Cuban sandwich. The Local serves up a Cuban that'll make your taste buds do a standing ovation. This bad boy was no ordinary sandwich; it was a work of art. Tender roasted pork that had a flavor that would sent Gordon Ramsey to pleasure island. Tangy pickles that hit the perfect notes, applewood smoked bacon, and ooey-gooey melted Swiss cheese. All hugged by the most amazing Na'an bread. This Cuban was not only the best Cuban I've had, but the best sandwich I've ever ate. It's like they've unlocked the secret formula to sandwich perfection. And let's not forget the incredible vibes at The Local. The place has outdoor seating but we sat in the indoor area that open up to the outside. We had the best of both worlds, AC and the fresh air from outside. The staff treated us like regulars even though it was our first trip. Every aspect of our dining experience was top-notch. So, if you find yourself in Boone, NC, go to The Local. Order that magnificent Spinach Artichoke dip and prepare your taste buds for the Cuban sandwich of legends. First time trying "The Local" in Boone, and I gotta say, it's got that unmistakable downtown Boone vibe -- relaxed, inviting, and full of character. You can kick back outside on the patio, settle in inside, or hang at the bar if that's more your speed. One thing I noticed: no booths, from what I could tell, but honestly, that just adds to the casual charm. We hit it up for lunch, and got seated pretty quick. Our server, Abbie, was a total gem -- friendly, full of good info, and she nailed the recommendations. You could tell she genuinely loved the place, which made the experience even better. Now, the water test--46 ppm. (Just a heads-up: safe drinking water falls between 1-100 ppm, so we're good.) They were happy to accommodate my request for cucumbers on the side -- not always a given, so I appreciated that. The coffee? Bold, with a smooth aftertaste. I always drink it black to get the full flavor, and this definitely delivered. For the main, We went with the blackened goat cheese burger (cooked to a perfect medium), paired with truffle fries. First bite? Delicious. Juicy, flavorful, cooked just right. But fair warning -- it's a little messy, so be prepared to use a napkin or two. The flavors blended beautifully, and I honestly don't think they could've done better. If you're in Boone, you gotta try this burger. My family's visit to The Local was nothing short of spectacular. Our waiter Troy was definitely on his game this evening. It's rare when my family is fully satisfied, this was a complete exception, our pallets were fully satisfied from the Uber vegetarian-flat bread pizza which was as unique as it was delicious, The Brazilian Sirloin which was tender and melted in your mouth, this is topped with a drizzle of house made chimichurri sauce which was quite a nice touch for myself, The Creamy Pesto Alfredo w/ chicken was a large and beautifully prepared dish that was bursting with flavor and a wonderful aroma and our last dinner dish was The Hot Wings which were absolutely mouthwatering. A truly fine meal all the way around!!!! Also you must try their twist on a NewOrleans favorite The Carolina Beignets...... WOW!!!!! My friends and I went to Char last night for their Monday 1/2 off martinis and all you can eat crab legs. We had such a great time! There were 7 of us and we were able to get a table on the deck - perfect for girls night out. They had a great selection of Martinis - I had a lemon drop martini and a chocolate martini. They were sooo good. The crab legs were huge and tasty and the waitress made sure she brought us a new order just as we finished each plate. There was jazz playing in the background, and the tables were set with table cloths, flowers and candles. The staff was friendly and helpful and seemed to be having fun. Char is a beautiful place with lots of art, high ceilings beautiful colors - very cosmopolitan. I will definately come back will recommend Char to everyone I know. read more

Nice bar/restaurant decor and atmosphere. Food is good, at this relatively modest price point, with a varied menu. I just left Sunday brunch and had terrible (no) service. Nothing pleasant about our server from introduction on. Watched the tables around us, that came in after us, get their food but 45 minutes after ordering we had no food. Server had disappeared; never checked on us one time. Manager finally came out with our order. The good news, she (the manager) listened to my complaints and took action. Six of us (Locals) went to Char Friday night. We had dined there several times and knew the food to be good. We were there at 7:45, and almost immediately a four-man combo started to play. Not only were they not very good, they were WAY too loud. We couldn't carry on a conversation except at full-shout. We nearly got up and left, but we were hungry. Most of us said that our food was quite good, but we will never go back. If they want to cater to a young crowd who think loud music is cool, they well definitely loose their older clientele. Fantastic! My husband and I had a wonderful time and the food was delicious. I was surprised to see so many interesting beer choices, as I myself am an avid beer enthusiast. I had the Bad Penny Brown (from Raleigh!) which started the night out perfectly, cool and crisp. We shared a tuna appetizer that was perfect with some sort of ginger vinaigrette- wow! The server suggested that we have the shrimp and grits and/or the potato encrusted tilapia with vegetable ravioli, so we chose both! We were so impressed with everything. We will be back! read more

Honestly was expecting much better given the yelp reviews. We waited about 5-10 minutes for a hostess to even see us and then we're seated. With high expectations our appetizers came out quick which were the nachos and were very good! However, it took about 20 minutes to place our order for entrees because our server wasn't around.
