We came here for Sunday lunch, and what an amazingly good surprise! The whole atmosphere is wonderful--from the jazz playing in the background to the beautiful setting, both inside and outside. I will definitely be coming back to try more of their incredible menu. We started with the fried green tomatoes--to live for! The crunchy salad topping paired beautifully with the tomatoes, which were soft and tender inside while still perfectly crispy on the outside. (Seriously, how do they do that?) Then came my salmon salad, and it was absolutely delicious! The balsamic dressing was perfectly balanced--not too acidic and not too sweet. The strawberries and blueberries were ripe but still firm, and the baby greens were incredibly fresh. Everything tasted fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully balanced. We came for Valentine's Day, which was a set menu, but we were not disappointed. We started with the stuffed mushrooms, which were delicious. Only downside was there was no bread to sop up the delicious jus. My husband had the Caesar salad and I had the lobster bisque. He was happy with his salad but I could not eat the bisque as it was way too salty. It also had no identifiable lobster. We both had the surf and turf (steak plus shrimp) and it was perfectly prepared. Mashed potatoes were great. Brussels sprouts were slightly overdone. We were at the caverns and asked our tour guide for food recommendations. He mentioned he hadn't been here, but heard it was good, but pricey. It was our anniversary so we decided to splurge. Appetizer -Fried green tomatoes. Good, but a little lacking in something. The tortilla chicken soup was more like a delicious chip dip than a soup, but we enjoyed it immensely. Seasonal cocktails, expensive but TASTY! Note, wine list is very short, and could use more mid range wines. Tip, pay the $2 to upgrade your brussel sprouts. Easily the best thing I had, well except for dessert. Salmon was amazing, and the corn had such a lovely char flavor. Can't go wrong with mashed potatoes, the plate was perfect. The rib eye was very good. The garlic green beans were also good. But the Brussel sprouts! A must try. As mentioned, it was our anniversary, and they brought us a dessert gratis. Super kind. Before we ordered, our server had mentioned the ice cream sandwich was to die for, so we also ordered that. It...was...to die for. Another must have. New restaurant (18 months) with menus that have a nice variety for everyone. Seated promptly, waitress came over promptly for our drink order. The restaurant was very clean and had a pleasant atmosphere. We ordered Pepperjack Fireballs, Lobster Bisque, Crab Cakes and Toasted Sour Dough Club. The Pepper Jack Fireballs were ok. They were a touch overcooked and the best thing about them was the pepper jelly. Wife's side salad has ample ingredients but was a little on the small side.The Lobster Bisque was very flavorful, the Crab Cakes were excellent and the Toasted Sour Dough club was huge and enough to feed the both of us. Tucked in the heart of downtown McMinnville is the beautiful Local Restaurant. You will feel like you are stepping back in time to a jazzy speakeasy. You will be greeted with a big warm smile and promptly sat at a cozy booth or bar top table. Every was super friendly and the food came quickly. We started with the fried green tomatoes. The batter was very crunchy and the sauce was a nice pairing (a bit more or a drizzle over the top would have leveled it up). Having so many excellent choices was hard to decide. I went with a caesar side salad and the chicken tikka pops. They had great flavor, but I would not peg that as tikka more charbroiled jerk equally as good. My mom ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with no bread. This had excellent flavor and paired with the brussels was a yummy decision. This was by far one of the best experiences in atmosphere, customer service and taste of food. The food was absolutely fantastic- our group had salmon, steak, salad, gumbo, burgers, cheesecake and several of the sides. The food was flavorful, cooked to perfection, and had excellent portions. Some of the food was excellent(truffle fries and Brussels sprouts), but the burger sort of tasted off and there was an issue with the sandwich my friend ordered, which I don't think was handled appropriately. Our server was friendly and attentive and the restaurant is lovely. I really wanted to LOVE this place and have a spot to celebrate special occasions and recommend to friends and clients, but I just wasn't blown away. If they used real lump crab meat for the crab cakes, they would have gotten 5 stars! But the crab cakes and lam chops were outstanding. Popped in for a lunch after day tripping to a local attraction. Knocked out with the service, the menu, the food... could not have asked for better. Our party enjoyed the crusted salmon (get it!) pork chop (get this too!) , grilled cheese and French dip. This cozy restaurant on Morford has great food and nice cocktails. The service is friendly and attentive. I had the chopped steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The beef is from the Butcher on Main and wonderful. Chopped steak was delicious as were the potatoes. This is a date night restaurant, not a family/large table place with a food trough. If you want to have a larger party, plan to dine outside on the spacious, well decorated patio. Indoor tables in this cozy restaurant are for 4 max, so plan accordingly and know this is not your normal McTown cheap-eatz kind of place. ( If you want that, go Mexican or to the feed trough at Ming's or the Gon-DOE-la.) We will return. I had the burger on an earlier visit and it was fabulous. I was excited to try The Local because it is fairly new in our small town, and appeared to be a fine dining restaurant. The fact that their parking is across the street and you have to pay to park is insulting in our little town. This is not Nashville or Chattanooga. Had the food been better, it might have been forgivable. The decor and atmosphere were understated but tasteful, and they have comfortable booths as well as high top tables. The bar is prominently located in the center of the restaurant, I suppose because they are promoting their "craft cocktails", which I thought were outrageously expensive at $17+. The server seemed a bit brusque; not a warm, friendly guy, but became more so at the end of our meal. He did attend to our needs, and refilled our drinks a few times. I am sad to report that the food is not worth the price; substandard, especially as I was hopeful that it would be delicious. There were 4 of us. One ordered the house hamburger, which looked great, and he said it was good. Another ordered a chicken sandwich, and she said it was good, as well as the side of sautéed corn. My husband ordered the tortellini and had steak added. It was not what he expected from the menu description, and the steak was actually skirt steak rather than sirloin, etc. The vegetables seemed raw to him, rather than sautéed, and the "sauce" tasted like vinegar and oil. He said it seemed more like what someone would normally serve as a cold pasta salad. Lastly, I had the salmon, which was pecan encrusted, with green beans and smashed potatoes (because, at 5:30 in the evening, they were out of rice pilaf.) The salmon was ordinary, and the pecan crust tasted stale. The mashed potatoes were okay, but I don't believe were made fresh from real potatoes. The green beans were okay also, but everything came out tepid in temperature. It was my birthday, so I was given a complimentary piece of cheesecake, which was a nice gesture. However, the cheesecake was also disappointing, being dry with not much flavor. Overall, a big disappointment to have a new restaurant added to our limited choices which is nothing special. read more
