Because of a couple of my coworkers and Yelpers saying that this is a must-try, I decided to do this for lunch on Sunday. I placed an order for pickup via DoorDash and headed over to get our food. This restaurant is on Highway 31, in the parking lot with Donato's Pizza and across the street from the Shell Gas station. The restaurant looks lovely from the front, and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside, there are several bar chairs up front and regular seating in the middle and back. When I walked in and went to the bar, one of the young ladies at the bar asked me if I had the to-go order. She was very helpful and even gave me something to drink while I waited on my food. There were TVs everywhere so you could watch one thing and the kids had something they could watch, which was great. My to-go order came out pretty quickly and I went to my mama's house for lunch. My mama opened her Meat and 2 (Greek chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans) and said, "Where is the chicken?" I looked on her plate. There were about 5 chicken tenderloins that had been cooked - and they came out super small. So small that you could not tell there was chicken on the plate. We were not happy about that, but she tasted one and said it was good. She was side-eyeing my burger and how much food came on my plate, though. The other thing I noticed were the side salads. They were $6.00 each, and they were in the smallest cups. It surprised me, but I was okay with it because the food filled me up. I think if you are getting a burger and fries, you are going to love it. Don't get the Greek Chicken on your Meat and 2 plate if you like larger portion sizes. The flavor was excellent on both meals and we enjoyed them. I will definitely be back! read more

The Local is located within a shopping center and has a cozy, neighborhood feel to it. I see a lot of potential but some improvements are definitely needed. Starting with the good: Like I said, it has a cozy, neighborhood feel to it. You can tell people are friendly. We were there on a Friday night and it had live music, so that was nice. There is a sign at the door to seat yourself. We ordered the 7 layer salad and the okra. Food is made fresh when ordered, so takes a bit. That's never an issue if that means good is fresh though. Improvements needed: We waited for over 5 minutes at a table after we sat ourselves as the sign directed and not a single person greeted us. Finally I went to the bar and asked if we were supposed to order at the bar. The guy said let me find someone for you. So after a few more minutes, someone finally came and took our order. 7 layer salad and the okra took over 20 minutes to come out, but they were fresh so could be worth the wait if everything was good. Okra was good, but there were at least a good 25% of it that had no okra in it, juat fried bits. The 7 layer salad was missing the green peas and the bacon. All we got was romaine, tomatoes, cheese, and onion. Not sure what happened there. May be an off-night, will probably give it one more try before writing it off completely since the vibe is cool. read more

When the sun is out, I'm searching for a patio to eat on!! Stopped by The Local House & Bourbon Eatery for lunch and had to try the Local Burger--and wow, it did not disappoint. It's a smash burger, cooked perfectly with those crispy edges that give it so much flavor. Every bite was juicy, well-seasoned, and just overall so good. The fries were so good. Our server was really nice and explained every item and also the vegetables used were local. They offered brunch on Sunday that I've eager to try! The vibe was relaxed and welcoming, making it an easy spot to sit back and enjoy a great meal. If you're a burger lover, this one is definitely worth ordering. Stopped in for lunch. Ordered the veggie plate. It comes with 3 sides. The food was freshly cooked. Everything was the right temp. Good proportions. We were greeted when we walked in. We didn't wait long for our food. We were checking on a few times. The staff was friendly. The vibe is very casual and chill. The staff was friendly. Blues/old school music is playing. We went to the movies which is across the street from the Local. We saw 5 Star Ratings. Seemed like a nice place to try. This was for dinner, not the Meat & Three they have for lunch. Service: Slow and the restaurant was not crowded at all. The server apologized but there were no excuses for the delay. Ambiance: Standard Bar look, nothing special. Nice to have outside dining but it began to rain so that was not an option. Food: My wife LOVED her Philly cheese steak and truffle fries. My son and I had a burger. They were just OK. About average. Drinks: My wife had a white wine; my son & I had a frozen drink. They were just OK. Value: Here is the rub. $130.00 for three burgers and three drinks was in my opinion excessive. Now worth the money but that is just me. In the future, I will pick up a burger or Philly Cheese Steak. A three out of five is the right rating for the meal we had. This is the kind of place I want in my neighborhood. It's not big but didn't feel too crowded. Reasonable beer selection. Bar food on point.

Had a great experience at The Local! I ordered the Bacon Burger, and it was honestly one of the best burgers I've had in the area. The burger was cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and the bacon really set it off. The ingredients tasted fresh, and everything came out hot and fast. If you're looking for a great local restaurant, casual dining, or a spot with a really solid burger and fries, I'd definitely recommend The Local. Friendly service, good atmosphere, and quality food. Executive chef JP is on deck here!! If you enjoyed THE FIG, I highly recommend checking this new concept out. JP is such a cool and welcoming dude! I was recently here just to grab a drink and watch some football. The vibe here is light and fun! Friendly bar service! They serve brunch on Sunday so if you liked the fig brunch , they are serving that brunch menu. Also , they offer meat and 3 during the week. I love this menu plus traditional bar menu food. They need to keep the kitchen cleaned. Me and the wife went once and enjoyed it. Tried going a second time and soon as we got there just felt weird. Went to the bathroom to wash my hands before we ate and soon as I walked by the kitchen stuff was everywhere like food was sitting out unattended. If you have a nasty kitchen at least keep the entrance clean if you have a visible opening. Stanley cups sitting on prep tables. Some guy come from the back of kitchen eating. Just didn't feel like the first time so we got up and left and didn't eat. Hate places that don't respect cleanliness and hygiene with staff. Especially walking out the kitchen eating. Gotta do better that's why eating out isn't safe anymore. People don't care. They just look at it as a job. Until someone gets sick from contamination. read more

I ordered this through DoorDash, so I can't speak to the service or ambience inside the restaurant. If you live in Birmingham, you know that the food here is really competitive. It's hard to get a bad meal honestly. With burgers specifically, there are so many good choices. However, I ordered the Bacon Me Crazy burger from here on a whim, never heard of the place before, and it was AMAZING and I literally dream about it at night. We were excited to go and enjoy a new place to us. We were disappointed in the experience. Went on a Friday night around 6, not busy yet. The place was a little junkie with cardboard boxes sitting around and if you went to the bathroom you could see straight into the kitchen(not something you want to see before eating). Our new "go to" spot. Have eaten here five or six times in the last couple of months and have never left disappointed. We've gone only for dinner but can't wait to try the meat and three for lunch soon. They have changed the appetizer platter, however, and it was much better when the queso fries came with it instead of the new dip and chip offering. Highly recommend giving this place a chance for dinner! Had the beef nachos, while a friend opted for the pork option, both were delicious. Portions are good for table sharing, or an entree. Went in for brunch at 1pm today, they close at 3pm. Service was fast without feeling rushed. Food was great. One daughter ordered the conecuh grit bowl which she said was a 10/10.. Me and my other daughter had the local hash which was tasty and the sausage gravy was delicious . My husband ordered the meat and three and loved the chicken fried chicken with okra, collards, and Mac and cheese. Everything was good. The head chef came out and discussed how he seasons and sources a lot of the food locally, including the beef for the smash burgers. Definitely recommend!
