My son is going to college soon but we needed a storage to keep his stuff in until he leaves after this summer. So the search is on for a self storage facility. He is an inspiring music producer so basically has some gear that needs to be stored in a climate controlled facility. That was the one most important requirement. I contacted several locations and finally came upon The Lock Up Self Storage. They were running an online special for $56 which was excellent for being near Waikiki area plus literally less than 5 minutes away from us. I read on their main website for this location that they are "100% climate controlled building". I called their number they had online for their Honolulu location (808) 942-5533. This apparently is their main list number which goes directly to their call center. One of my first questions was whether or not this facility is fully climate controlled just to be sure. The agent looked up the location and confirmed that this is a climate controlled facility. So I went ahead and made a reservation. http://tinyurl.com/lys3ker We packed up all of the boxes and drove to The Lock Up. We were greeted by two people that worked there, exchanges our hellos then gave them our reservation. They told us they had the unit ready I had reserved. I asked just to make sure if the unit was climate controlled and to my surprise they said "NO" I explained to them that I had reserved a climate controlled unit, even told them that's what their website said and picked up the brochure in front of their desk that stated their units are climate controlled. Of course there were no other units available in the size and price range that did have climate control. This is absolutely FALSE ADVERTISING. They mentioned we should have called them directly but when I asked them their direct number they said that I still had to call their main list number since they did not have a direct number. Make any sense? Upset yet having already wasted our time and energy bringing the boxes over and ready to store it we went ahead and rented the unit without the climate control. We of course had to keep the boxes that required climate control. We signed the paperworks and went to grab our boxes to place into the unit. As we're going towards our unit there were items from another storage renter littered everywhere. We could even get to the unit they gave us. We told the office this and they had to move us down since we had no more time to waste waiting around for the other person to move their belongings out of the way. This was a very unfortunate and upsetting experience we had at The Lock Up Self Storage located in Honolulu. Because of the blatant FALSE ADVERTISING from their online website, call center agents, and even their brochures, I would never recommend The Lock Up Self Storage to anyone. I hope in the future this business is honest about their descriptions and what is being told to the public. If they were part of the BBB, I would most definitely place a complaint immediately. read more

This is nice facility for storage, but the management price gauges without warning. The staff said I will have to pay an increase rent today because their computer shows that i will get a rent increase email in the next few days. Not a small increase in rent either. $20 more per month!!! Not honorable!!! I have only been renting this unit six months. I paid early and respect the house rules. This company will increase your rate every time. Also the contract said I will have use of a van one time. The staff told me today, that that was only for the first two weeks of renting an unit from them. Do not believe anything this staff/management tells you when renting a unit here. They do not have honorable words. Too bad, because it is a nice facility. read more

why dont they have a zero star rating? this place deserves it for this reason: called them because their website states free move in truck. I called the local 808 number and it routes to mainland call center. The person answering the phone had a terrible demeanor and I felt like I was interrupting her. I asked about the truck and she said the only thing in her notes is that the free truck offer expires in september and she wasnt sure if that was 2012 or 2013. well if your website says free truck, that darn it, it should be a free truck.... so deceptive. she said she would need my name and number and have someone local call me. here I am trying to give you my business and now I need to wait on you? I quickly ended the call because I don't want to give my hard earned dollars (stripping is hard work ok) to some business trying to hook line and sinker me. I'll go somewhere else read more

i have been with the lock up for 4+ years already i moved to the company after being robbed at public storage kapiolani where they rent unite to homeless people who turn around and live in the unite I have had only the best service from lock up mariann who is now the manager has help me every time i had a question most friendly person to deal with she is the best ask for her if you need to rent a unite :) thank you for all your help read more

The facility is very clean and secure. The facility is nice and air conditioned which is good in Hawaii and the humidity. The staff are very friendly. You need to ask one of the office staff for the bathroom code so not just anyone can use it. I want to especially recognize Mary Ann Isabelo. She is especially helpful and friendly. The only thing is I don't get cell reception on the fourth floor. Maybe there can be at least wifi installed up there. Overall, great service, great facility, and great staff. read more

There are many storage facilities in the McCully-Moiliili vicinty and I found Lock Up Self Storage to be the most convenient and very clean! I've had numerous unit there due to upsizing then downsizing. When I needed an additional unit, I was able to get one to fit my needs quickly. After a while, I realized I could probably eliminate one of my units by getting a slightly unit and combining the contents of two unit. Viola - Mary Ann and her staff was able to find a unit to fit my needs. I was able to save money by getting a larger unit! While most of the other tenants are really friendly and nice, there are a few who ruin the storage experience with their inconsideration. On more than one occasion I have been either completely or partially blocked in the handicap stall. read more

Great operation! Clean, well-lit, A/C'd, generous accessible hours, secure, convenient location. The ONLY reason not a 5-star rating is cause accessibility in & out of 2 driveways (1 on McCully St., 1 on Kapiolani Blvd.) can get a bit hectic with tenants, moving vans, etc. all using same parking area. I had a critical crisis and needed to pay my bill but was confined to a hospital setting and did not want to incur any late charges. MY UNIT GOT ROBBED AT THE LOCKUP!!! WE LOST EVERYTHING!! 0 STAR RATING!! FALSE ADVERTISING ON WEBSITE!!! Trying to file Class Action Lawsuit!! paid for extra security which there is none!!! 3 STORAGE UNITS robbed in a row on the 6th floor!!! Poor to NO video footage!!! HPD says inside job most likely!!! Corrupt employees!!!Poor customer service!! false advertising on there website they don't offer the up to 5000 dollar coverage like website clearly states when you first rent with them. No custom locks either. No free Van and free first month as advertised either!! Only up to 2000 insurance coverage!! The burglars came right in the morning before anybody was in office and cut 3 locks, robbed 3 units, they had security code and made multiple trips!! Please don't rent here!! What 24 hour security?! There is NO security here!! Don't make the mistake my Marine friend and I made!!! we got robbed and only 750 reimbursement!! THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Unlike the experience of the "ONE STARS" that left their notes here, I give them the 5-stars that they DESERVE. The staff in that place are GREAT. Kevin, Royale, Jay and Brandon are GREAT. They treat everyone with respect (which goes both ways). The facility is 100% better then any of the other storage facilities around that area.
