Beginning to get frustrated with this place and their freedom to hike rent as they please. Yes, it's clean and climate controlled but having no obligation to honor the rent price as long as they let you know 30days in advance, is not something I'd like to deal with. "New customer" would get the same room for 40% cheaper. Yeah, just get the new people in and then 30 days later, they can hike the price up. There is nothing stopping them to do this. read more

I rented a storage unit for a few months in between moving. It was a good experience. The unit was clean. Price was roughly 160$ per month, and I was able to fit an apartment's worth of stuff. My stuff was all good and intact afterwards. My carpet did have clothing moths when we got it, but it is possible they were there before... and I probably should've wrapped it up. Although most storage facilities do this, it should stop. Once you are a long term customer their rates rapidly rise. If you start their introductory rate is just to get you started then it's like a juice loan. Their should be some protection to this for consumers read more

More specifically, Chris was kind, informative, and made a stressful move very easy. Chris gave me a call back after my initial email request, set up our truck time, and truly went above and beyond to make the move flawless. We have been using the Lock-Up since 2007. Tedd is a wonderful manager. The facility is clean and climate-controlled (really), very secure, offers the use of their truck, has a huge loading bay with carts, and sells moving supplies. It really is the best storage facility in the area. Due to Covid, we needed a second unit to store furniture which had been destined for donation. It was an urgent situation, as we were moving out of a condo in March 2020. John Triffo helped by immediately identifying a cost-effective storage unit. It was a huge relief, as the Governor had locked down the state on the day of our move! John's customer service was excellent and continues to be stellar. Both Tedd and John have been the best. Please give them your business. No regrets! read more

Ted was beyond helpful in facilitating the arrival of our very large moving truck, and getting us setup with a storage unit. He was extremely friendly, detailed, and communicative throughout the entire process. The common areas are cleaner, and maintained better, than any other storage facility I have seen (I have had several storage units in the past). Working with Ted at our arrival point made me feel as though there was a light at the end of the tunnel, after a VERY stressful cross country move. read more

Clean, secure, weather proof! Had to put in a small apartment of furniture and The Lock Up could not have made it easier! We didn't use the truck but if we had been better planners it would have been a great option. The well lit halls are a bonus as those places can give one such Alfredo around the corner?!" feeling. Beginning to get frustrated with this place. Yes it is clean, yes it is indoors and climate controlled, yes it isn't in some scummy part of town and all scary. I don't remember if the people there are helpful or not, as I have had zero interaction with them since I moved in. Free carts in the lobby at all times. Elevators shut at 9pm...for such a nice place, I'd expect it to be 24 hours, honestly. The part that is frustrating? I just got yet another notification of a rent hike. In 16 months my rent has gone up 33%. That's really not cool, and as soon as I can figure out what to do with all of my stuff, I'm out of here. read more

Most recently, I cleaned out my storage space at this facility. I have been in a very large space for too many years. This is a wonderful place if you need storage. Tim, the manager is very helpful, the facility is spotless, climate controlled and I am now in a smaller unit. I needed temporary storage while doing renovations and the lock up self storage provided excellent customer service. We were able to access our stuff easily, and move our stuff in and out smoothly. They even let us borrow a pick up truck for our move in for free. Highly recommend! read more

This facility is incredibly nice and always clean. I am a pharmaceutical rep and I use this storage facility for my samples a promotional items. The units are climate controlled, and the facility seems as if it is brand new because it is so clean. I have been using this facility since May 2012. Carl is the facility manager and he is extremely nice. He greets you by name when he sees you, and is always very helpful whenever I need anything. The other staff members are very nice too. The fellow tenants also are great- once I accidentally left my unit key on a cart, and they returned it to the front desk. It was nice to see that honesty in the people around me. Also, when my promotional items are shipped in, Carl will get those items into my storage unit for me. When I was booking the unit, Carl let me know about the specials and I was able to get my unit for a discounted price. The facility is conveniently located right off the highway and it is very easy to get to. I definitely recommend this facility! :-) read more

Using a storage facility for the short term for the first time. I found the Lock Up online via Yelp. It is a very clean facility. The halls are very clean. No strange smells. John T helped me out for check in and he was really polite. He explained the whole process. The original size I had picked was too small so he showed me additional options. Facility is clean, well lit and accessible. I was there for 8 years and recently pulled out because the price is far too high just to store my stuff. When I started it was lesss than $100- now it is $150- thats nuts. The manager is very nice- my only complaint is the high price. read more

When they say "Climate Controled", they mean it! So, nice to have some of my items stored and not have to worry about the change in weather damaging my items. This is a wonderful facility. Spacious storage units, immaculate facility, friendly and helpful staff and management. The only reason I'm giving them 4 instead of 5 stars is they do not offer recycling bins which is a shame with all of the discarded boxes in the dumpster. I have been using this facility for almost 2 years now. As a sales rep it is a necessity for me to store my sales materials somewhere, and living in a tiny apartment in the city provides no storage options. This facility is fantastic. First off, it is CLEAN! I could eat food off the floor, which is unbelievable! I have yet to actually do so, but it's just that clean. I promise. The gentleman that runs the facility, Carl, is one of the nicest people ever. He appears to know all tenants by name. All the reps I see running in and out, much like myself, all know him and pop their heads into the main office to say "hi Carl" anytime they are in there. He keeps up with what's going on in everyone's life, and even tries to help reps network. He introduced me to another rep in my industry which has actually been a big help to us both in our day to day jobs. Additionally, Carl is great about helping us reps out whenever we get a shipment, even getting it into our units for us. I now refuse to use any other storage facilities. This place is top notch! I've been at this location of The Lock Up for about a year now and from the moment we walked in to look at it, Carl made us feel welcome. He helped us find the right size unit for our needs and has been very helpful along the way. My only complaint would be that if you need to use their truck it has to be within the first few weeks of renting out your unit. I think it would help out their customers if they rented it out to anyone who needed it for just a few hours. We had to rent a U-Haul just to move a couch a block away. But otherwise the facility is very clean and convenient and I would highly recommend it! read more

I have used this facility for a number of years for storage for a number of business and personal uses and have found the experience wonderful. The facility is always clean easily accessible in all weather conditions thanks to their spacious drive in facility. You can use a keypad or key card for entering. They supply carts and large elevators to reach your space. The areas are always well lit. Your bill can be paid easily online. Carl Faulkner who is the store manager is knowledgable, friendly, and very accommodating. I have been a tenant at the The Lock in Skokie for a few months now, and I must say that this storage facility is truly impressive. I am also a Pharma Sales rep, and have to keep my samples and promotional materials in a storage unit as part of the requirements of my job.
