BAIT & SWITCH - price WILL go up so be careful Fantastic location. Units are good. Locked elevator access and good location. Sounds great, right? I've had better customer service at the DMV. When I was mostly moved in, I had the pleasure of meeting a nice woman who moved here from New Orleans. She shared that she was moving out of a 10 x 15 unit. When I asked why, she said the initial cost was around $150, and in just 2 years they had raised it to almost $450 / mo. YES, you read that right. Now, I cannot verify her costs, but I can tell you that when I moved in to a 10 x 10 space, the cost was $89 / mo. In just over a year they have raised to cost to almost $200 / mo. More than double the cost in 1 year? After roughly 5 months it went to $134. This is a shame because I would have stayed in this unit for a decade. Based on my exponential calculations, the cost would be $102,400 / mo if they keep doubling it every year. I decided to get out. I met a nice couple when I moved out and mentioned the increases to them. The guy said to me, "Yeah, you need to move to a different unit every 6 months or you'll be in trouble." He was literally moving his boxes from one space to another one next to it. What? Maybe Public Storage Deerfield could have simply kept charging him the rate he was paying so he could avoid this hassle. I moved out a couple days into the month and had to online chat them since the 'on location' gentleman (who is nowhere to be found most of the time) told me he had to leave and go to the other location. He is never available, but suddenly became VERY available when I put a few things near the dumpster. He came up to me and said "Yeah there's no dumping in the dumpster. I saw you putting a few things there on my cameras." I replied, "I am a paying tenant right now." He said, "That's for me, not the tenants." Then he shared I would be charged $250 if I left the garbage by the dumpster. So I had to make another trip to gather that and take it away. He left and told me to close the account with chat since he didn't have time to do it. I cancelled with online chat and asked for a pro-rated refund for the remaining 27 days. They said no. I asked if there is anything they can do and they told me that it's in the contract, and they will not send any prorated refunds. Beware of this as well. You're better off finding a quality storage house that takes care of their customers and actually rewards them for paying and staying. read more

6 Year Update (Nov. 2023): This Public Storage location is still one of the nicest-maintained buildings I have used, with everything in good working condition and no signs of disrepair. The climate control always has the unit at a reasonably comfortable temperature all year round. I've seen no evidence of any kind of leaking (which I can't say about my previous X-Tra Storage unit in Wheeling and A.Smith's Storage in North Chicago). The large cargo elevators are in good shape, and move quickly and quietly between the 3 floors. There is a digital access panel that requires a code to enter the storage area. The dolly carts provided have seen a lot of miles, but are still all in good shape with no wobbling or weirdness. They also have hand trucks available upon request (along with boxes and packing supplies for sale). The facilities, along with the bathrooms and office, are always clean. I like that the entire facility is well lit, with motion-sensing lights in the hallway, and clear lines of sight through the halls. Police frequent the plaza that its in, and there are security cameras all inside and outside of the building, so it should be fairly safe at all hours. They state they're open Mon ~ Sun, 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, but I've successfully accessed my unit a little earlier and a little later. Any time I've run into staff, they're courteous and attentive. Price-wise, this location is fair. Shop online, and you can get some really good promotional rates. We got a 10" W x 5" D unit for $70 for the first year, and $100-ish after the year (we opted for our own insurance coverage, where we had to provide pictures and account info to Allstate). We wanted to use our own lock, but they made us use their lock at no additional charge. It's a decent quality Master no. 40 70mm discus-style padlock with hardened shrouded shackle, but a so-so 4 pin cylinder that's jiggle resistant but easy-ish for a journeyman to pick with the right tools and a few minutes. Fortunately, I don't have anything too valuable, otherwise I might insist on them allowing me use a better lock. Avoid coming here around 9am and 5pm. The Public Storage shares the plaza with several office buildings, and there's only one way in and out on Pfingsten Rd. for everyone. At 9am and 5pm, there can be a little bit of a traffic backup, as all those folks are commuting to and from the surrounding offices. read more

WAS a great place for storage. Now, there is NO ONE on site. The windows of the office are literally papered over. Place is deserted and scary. No emergency alarms. Can't access the bathrooms. I've left voice messages multiple times, but have never gotten a return call from a human Meanwhile, the RATES key going up, frequently, and by a lot. One of my lockers just went from $104 to $134/month. This is the second increase in a year. I trying to get my stuff out of there ASAP and close my lockers. Closing one locker this month. BTW, if you want to cancel your locker, you have to do it "using the app". Any problems? Use the app. Sad. read more

I rented five months ago for $158 a month and I just got a notice that they were raising my rates over 25% which I think is unreasonable. I tried to get in contact with them and there is no person to speak to, I left a message and have not received a call back seriously considering moving my business read more

Conveniently located for me, but after coming from another facility, I miss having an enclosed dock area so that you don't have to continuously input your code for access during multiple trips from the car. Also the carts are quite small. Bonus is two elevators for redundancy. read more

We moved into our unit with a great rate. We were happy as the facility is fairly clean and well-maintained UNTIL we shoot six months after move-in. At that point the rate skyrocketed by 22.2%. We have had many units at many facilities over the years, but this is the first time any unit has had such a drastic rate jump and first time for an increase at six months. We feel duped by the initial rate and dread what they're going to do at a year. We asked management for reconsideration, but they were unconcerned. This is a type of bait-and-switch. This place seemed great at first. I began renting a 5x5 space there about eight months ago. The service was friendly and the place is clean. However, the first red flag was the insurance on the unit. Okay, we're talking about five feet by five feet. That's it. And the rent, initially, was $39 per month. The clerk told me I was required to purchase their insurance at $11 per month. I asked why my renter's insurance couldn't cover it (since it actually does cover my property, even in storage). She said it was company policy and there was no way to opt out. Today I find out that the rent went up back in February by $8 per month. Doesn't sound like much but it's $96 per year, and as a percentage of increase it represents a 20.5% increase! I don't know about you, but that's not right to me. So, all I get from this guy I talked to today are apologies and "I'd never tell you that. I'm sorry that's what they told you." Sorry, buddy, but "sorry" doesn't do anything for all the money I've wasted. I live out of town now, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to collect my things and close out of this lousy deal. By the way, best of luck to anyone who tries to reach a corporate representative to lodge a complaint. They don't actually give you the option of pressing "0" and if you do it enough times, the automated system just hangs up on you. Public Storage sucks, and I'll never return once I've gotten out of the unit I'm currently renting. read more

Been storing things here for several months during home remodeling. Recently upgraded to larger unit. Can't say enough nice things about manager Aiden. She knows her work extremely well, demonstrates true pride in her facility. You would think she was the owner as she is so focused on keeping a clean secure facility. I've used a few different storage lockers in the past and when I went to public storage here in Deerfield I feel that the customer service there was tremendously helpful. Alisha was very helpful in helping me determine which locker I needed and she knew a lot about the facility. Public storage in Deerfield is very well maintained and the customer service is fantastic. While moving our entire apartment into storage we felt very comfortable with our valuable belongings in Public Storage. Amy helped direct us and was very friendly and professional. The good: the facility is clean (both the units and the restrooms), they always have carts available (and not locked up where you need to give them a drivers license as security) and the staff has generally been helpful. My objection is the shocking rate increases. I was told by Public Storage's national number that rent increases usually come about every six months to a year. Two months after I started renting here they sent me notice that my rate was going up in less than a month to $20 - a huge spike. When I called the national number to complain, they said that the leases are month-to-month and they could do this every month if they felt like it. Even if you have flexibility, if you're using a public storage space, chance are it would be very inconvenient for you to move all your stuff out in a month. Learn from my mistake: don't budget your year with anything close to the rate you sign up for. read more

This is by far the best storage place I have ever visited. I toured four other facilities before deciding on this location. The place is climate controlled, reasonably priced, very clean, and safe. I should have done my homework first and read reviews about Public Storage. I found out the hard way that Public Storage uses false advertising and they are purely sales people. First they gave me one price over the phone which included the first month at $1 and the thereafter $132. When my husband went in to sign the paperwork they sold him a completely different unit that did not have the $1 first month deal and a bigger unit for $152. We were never told that our lease officially started the day he signed the paperwork (which was 2 weeks before I told them I would move my stuff in) so we basically paid for 2 weeks unused. I was told I MUST get in to sign the paperwork by a particular date and leave what I thought was a "deposit" to hold the unit. I was never told the lease would start that date. The most ridiculous part of this is that when I spoke with the manager of this facility she really could care less about the misunderstanding and refused to start the lease on the official move in day. She was amazing and wonderful as our sales person. But after we signed the contract she was just done with us and could give a crap. I will follow up with corporate over this issue as I am furious!!!!! read more
