We were down to the wire in pulling together a move to the East Coast. Golan's provided a competitive estimate, no hard sell. We accepted their bid and finished packing. On the day of the move, they showed up on time, wrapped almost everything that needed protection in either blankets or plastic wrap. Delivery was within specified timeframe, and unload was quick. All personnel -- office reps, pickup and delivery -- were courteous and professional. If I ever move back to Chicago, I will call Golan's. read more

Many years ago, I would have rated Golans 5 stars. My family and I have moved many times, cross country, globally and locally many times. This would be our 4th time working with Golans and we have worked with others when we have lived in other parts of the country and world. Golans was top notch and I cannot say how very low they have dropped in terms of speed, quality and service. Depending on the size of the move, you would get 3-5 movers that were efficient, professional and coordinated. We have moved 3-4 bedroom homes the first three times and the quality was excellent. We have also had Golans come to do smaller jobs. In our most recent home move, the massive crew came (6 to 8 at one point) and what would have taken a 3-5 person crew one day in the past, took multiple days. We paid hundreds of dollars to have what looked like on 2 of the core 6 group were qualified, professional movers and the remainder were "runners" - and they did not know how to navigate with heavier loads up stairs, the could not consistently follow instructions on what rooms items needed to be moved to even though they were clearly marked; and they were physically not fit for the task. At certain points, I was genuinely worried for the workers' physical health, as they were clearly struggling to carry items that were less than 20 lbs. While the workers seemed generally earnest and hardworking, I felt like this was equivalent to having your frail or elderly relatives show up to do a house move. Further to that, the two professional movers were doing the bulk of the carrying and hustling and I could see that they were flagging on hour four because the remained Golans movers could not perform the duties of the job. The craziest part it that the disassembly and reassembly of the furniture (which in this case Golans have move 2xs for us before) took 3 times as long because the folks doing the work did not have basic mechanical or assembly skills. At the end, while the items were being assembled by two works (it took over 3 hrs), the remainder of the workers sat around waiting. I spoke quietly to the person in charge regarding the concerns which he acknowledged; I paid the full price and I tipped them well because I cannot fault people for wanting to work. Having said that, I will never use Golans again. Golans has always charged more than competing services and I thought I would get the high quality Golans experience that I have known - I am willing to pay for quality. The inefficiency was beyond a normal variance and I can genuinely say unless you have money, patience and time to burn, I cannot recommend them, which makes me sad - because I have referred them so many times, I have lost count. I don't know what happened to their standards of service from the past. It was such a disheartening, expensive and stressful experience. Never again. read more

Is there anything more stressful than a move? Is there anything that compounds the anxiety of selling a property more than the thought of putting all of your possessions in boxes and placing them in a new location? Golan's showed up at the appointed time with a crew of six and two trucks. We did most of the packing ourselves and the items they packed, they did with care. They had four levels of floors to move, and they settled into an efficient rhythm. (I sympathize with their knees, the stairs to the fourth floor are super steep!) They carried several bedroom sets, desks, long dining tables, Peloton, Hydrow, oversized sectionals, mirrors, outdoor furniture, weight set and probably 100 boxes. It was a full day's work but the crew was polite, patient, and efficient to the end. I did not see any damage to floors or walls. They drove away with everything to put into storage. read more

My wife and I received a moving quote for $7000. We had received other quotes for less money, but my wife decided that we should use Golan's as they were the movers that we had used for a previous move. After the truck was loaded, we were told we needed to make payment even though the rep had said we would have to pay once the delivery arrived at our new home. Upon making payment in full, we were told we owed another $2000 and that it was due at the time of delivery. Naturally, we were surprised and called the corporate office to voice our concerns. Later that evening, we received an updated bill and the amount increased even more. We were told we now owe $12,000 for the move. Frustrated, we were awake half the night as we were stunned by the increase in the amount of money that Golan's was expecting. How could we have gone from paying $7000 for 2 trucks that were capable of carrying 16K LBS of furniture to being expected to pay $5000 more after the trucks were loaded? The next morning, the movers arrived and demanded immediate payment. Even though the office was not open, we were angry and frustrated over the demand for an additional $5000. After some back and forth, we were told we had to pay $3700 versus $5000 in order for the movers to release our possessions. It honestly felt like a shakedown as our possessions and $7000 were in the hands of Golan's. Reluctantly, we paid the additional $3700 and our possessions were released. To say this soured the entire experience of our move is an understatement. If anyone in my industry had "misquoted" something, the company would have stood the quote. It's good business and good companies stand by their quotes. Golan's on the other hand retreated slightly and refunded $350 of the additional $3700 surcharge. That being said, I will not work with this company again. Their practices were unfair and deceptive in my opinion as Golan's completely failed to stand behind their original commitments. read more

This is the second time i have used Golan to move my belongs in the city. The first time the team was organized, fast and very professional. The second time I moved from one floor to another in the same building. I have a lot of very expensive clothes. I went to the new unit to instruct the movers as to the placement of the large pieces of furniture, when I returned to the old unit the packers had put all of my expensive sweaters on hangers into a huge box. Several sweaters were damaged by their lack of respect for my valuables. One of the crew that was packing things from the old place stole a 1200 pair of sunglasses. There is no doubt that they took the glasses because I keep them in the place very time I come in the house. If you use this company, lock up your valuables and move your own clothes. read more

I first used Golan's for moving 20 years ago. I was so impressed with them. They had me moved from my Roscoe Village apartment to my Wicker Park apartment in 2.5 hours without a hitch. I recall they were in shape and motivated to take care of my furniture without any damage. In the years in between 2003 and 2017 I moved two more times using two different moving companies. I was not impressed either of them. Fast forward to 2023 where I had to move again from Streeterville to Rogers Park and I hired Golan. The 4 person team was on time, in shape, respected my furniture, efficient in moving to and fro and all done in 3.5 hours, this included about a 50 minute travel time (since apparently all roads in Chicago are under construction). I'm glad I finally used them again and plan to for future moves. read more

2/8/2023 They were always the BEST......But now, do your due diligences October 28, 2023--8:00A; Golan arrives with (4) less than qualified, efficient or certainly careful persons to pack and move. Objective; Part of the shipment to storage, part to our awaiting home. Only made it to the storage, as they were such a inefficient group from 8A to 5P that we had to pay extra to store the remainder in their facility. Additionally, stay in a hotel for several nights. We moved the storage items last week (February 6, 2023) to our home. (NOT UTILIZING GOLAN, my first wise decision in this process) We began last week to open the boxes (see photos) of the thrown in belongings of ours from these lazy, intentional, careless persons who were perhaps never employees, but bit worker's, employed hourly, and never trained in their field. Only trained in how to dump, store and run... Surely, they must have factored in; "oh, storage....They'll not see this until whenever". Look pictures say enough.....This is but a small percentage of overall packing sloppiness and disregard of personal items that we have suffered due to this derelict company. On February 7, 2023 at 1:35P my husband went to return 14 pads to get our monies refunded. In his visit he met with this woman "Julie Gold" an unpleasant person as he found. Following day, my husband received a call of apology from Ms. Gold. A different demeanor altogether (inauthentic, of course) as she attempted to (Offer, Bribe) him with $100 dollars if we removed this review.....THAT'S who you might employ, if you should decide on these people as your movers. We continue to search for our TV power cables for (3) TV's that if I showed you the pack job on these TV's you would be wiser than I in your choice of movers. 2/12/2023 Still have not located our power cords for the televisions.... However, I wanted to show you the disappointing and completely unnecessary destruction of an award that has been with me since 2012. The quote came as one of the highest, but I decided to go with it... The day before the move, we received a call - and the crew came on time 8AM! They packed each piece of furniture as if it was an irreplaceable antique... My wife and I were so impressed with the Foreman and the crew, they were so respectful to our belonging, asked to make sure they know what and how to move each item. The unloading was as smooth as the loading, and all items were exactly were we asked to place them. All in all - a perfect experience in one of the most stressful possible event... We originally had quotes from three recommended movers, one of which was Golan. All three quoted within a few hundred dollars of each other. Golan's estimator spent far more time examining our apartment and all the contents to be moved than the other two. We chose Golan because a few friends had recently moved with them and were quite pleased. Everything went on schedule, but their actual price was about $1,000 over their estimate, despite all the advance extensive estimating. The packing could have gone better. One of the packers packed wet bath towels in with other items. It was a two-day move, the first to pack everything, the second to actually move out, travel the 2 miles to our new home, and to move in there. They came on time and pretty much finished on time. They left one large bookcase in our old home, as they were unable to move it out because of the size. We hired a refinisher whom we had do some work for us previously, who came the following day, disassembled the bookcase just enough to move it, transported it to our new home and reassembled it in place. Overall, the total amount of damage during the move was more than we had expected, breaking two corners off a dresser, scraping the top of a desk pretty badly, taking a small chunk out of the front of an antique vitrine, quite a few scrapes on the front of a white desk, and small scuffs on some leather furniture. After we reported the damages, we went over the list of documentation which they said they would need in order to file a claim. At that point, we realized that their requirements were basically not possible to satisfy. After many years, we no longer had original bills of sale or other necessary documentaion. Photos which they insisted they had to have, would have been difficult to show damage because one had to look close to see the actual extent of the damage. We pointed out the actual dmaage to the mover's supervisor at the time the damage was actaually done., and he photographed everything then and there. We eventually bit the bullet, hired a refinisher on our own, and paid to have the damage properly repaired. Altogether, we ate about $2,500 for the bookcase disassembly, move, reassembly, and other refinishing necessitated by damage done during the move. I don't know if our experience with them was any worse than it would have been with any other mover. Moving is traumatic for good reason. read more

Worst movers ever. Broke my treadmill and blamed it on experts who disassembled. Boxes marked in non-English in spite of me writing out how they were to be labeled. Boxed up dishes from 7 sets not by dish pattern but by type so all 7 sets of dinner plates in same box(as an example). Items lost and never found after unpacking. Run the other way. read more

I hired Golan's to move me from a (2-bedroom) apartment into another, larger apartment. This was a local move, within the Chicago area. Total cost for 3.5 hours of labor with a 3-person crew and all shipping materials, was about $850. That's a great price compared to other local movers. The crew of 3 did an amazing job. Professional, experienced, quick, and thorough. They had to partially disassemble 2 queen bed frames and a sectional sofa along the way, then reassemble them at the new place. They put shrink wrap, bubble wrap, tape, and furniture pads around all the large pieces. These guys work at lightning speed! I had Golan's box up my computer, printer, and monitor for me, but otherwise I had everything ready to move when they arrived. I also moved lighter items, such as folding chairs and clothing, ahead of time to save time and money. If you're planning to have Golan's pack up your entire place for you, then it will obviously cost more. I have used Golan's for 2 moves now, and would happily do so again! read more

He was extremely detail-oriented, asked great questions, and was ultimately responsible for my selection of Golan's as my moving company.
