Another locals bar for sure. I actually thought the place was pretty decent, it was a pretty big place, and they too have live music on the weekends. We came in for a few drinks and to buy a t-shirt before our dinner reservations. The service was slow, and yet it wasn't even busy. What irked me the most is a few of the locals wouldn't leave us alone to look around and enjoy the old school pictures of athletes and whatnot that adorn the walls. They kept trying to get our business, and sell us on stuff we didn't want to do, or have time to do, and they also happened to be three sheets to the wind, so they kept asking us over and over again where we were from, and kept offering us the deal of a lifetime, only to keep changing the price on us. We left after our second drink, we just wanted to enjoy ourselves not agree to give anyone our business. Boo! :( read more

I was at Atwater for about a week, walked across the street to this bar cuz it was the closest. I really enjoyed this place, day time has a chill vibe and the older gentleman bartender was attentive and very sweet. I sat at the bar and made friends w 2 locals. I met up w them everyday for a drink. They were nice and welcoming and never made me feel uncomfortable as I am a woman and they were men. I felt comfortable. Worst customer service experience imaginable! Bartender was beyond rude. Bar atmosphere was uninvititing. Glasses were dirty with salt residue left from prior drinks, when the bartender was notified he practically said "suck it up". He offered bf new glass & said to pour the salt flavor beer into the new glass. Really? I was in shock! No service -how this place has a good rating is mystifying to me. Straight bar with a Gay Bar name. We're regulars. Beware: Some bartenders may short change you, some pour well when you ask for call and you'll get charged for call. They get angry when you catch them. This is quite common at the Locker Room. Used to be rundown and a bad, seedy crowd. All that seems to be gone now. Cleaner, remodeled, lot's of HD TV's,, most sports,, nice locals and visitors. Latest owners have put some money and love into the place and it shows. This sports bar is really cool and fun. Rad the bartender is super friendly and very informative regarding the history of the island. No food available here but you can bring in your food. They have bud light on draft for $5 bucks. Beer is super cold. Nothing Special, Very Rundown, Unhelpful staff Sure I'm not completely against going to a dive, the atmosphere can be fun and quaint. This place is just sad. Not very clean place and the old old carpeted floor should have been removed and left as concrete or something many many years ago. This was probably my favorite bar on my first trip to Catalina. I think we checked them all out and I ended up coming back here. I watched the Kings Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final here. To my surprise, the whole bar was made up of Kings fans (or at least people cheering for them). That made it extra cool. So cool that I had to buy a T-shirt for the great memory as the game was as exciting as a sporting event can be. It always makes it more fun to watch with people who are equally interested. The bartender (Jim?) was cool. He maybe makes drinks a little too stiff but who really complains about that? You just have to pace yourself when he is at the helm. Overall, this bar is relatively clean. There are giant flat screen TV's every few feet so it is a great place to watch sports. The place is spread out and is roomy so you should feel too claustrophobic in there. They also had a pool table and a live band later in the night. All in all, I'd say this or the Marlin Club are the two best bars in Catalina. read more

Fun spot, was the only of four places we went still serving after 10pm in the winter. They have two pool tables for $1 per game. They serve normal pints and chalices. Several beers on tap, but not really my kind of selection--no IPAs. They did have bottles of sierra, though. Lots of sports figure pictures line pretty much every inch of the walls, except the parts of be walls covered by several TVs, so there's always something to check out. read more

The Locker Room got two visits from us on our trip. Both times the bartender was very helpful and nice. Another locals hang out but the bar is bigger than most and also has a game room with multiple pool tables and a dart board. Drinks were reasonable and strong! Great bar to hang out with friends. Drinks are reasonably priced and the bartender has a heavy hand with the alcohol. The local bands play here on weekend. The jukebox needs to be updated though. Most of the songs are at least 2 years old. There is s place to place darts if you like. And more than enough space to dance. read more

The nicest of your options on Catalina Island. Not great by mainland standards, but pretty swanky for Catalina. Lots of TVs, some pool tables, plenty of seating, plenty of booze (strong drinks too), and something unusual for Catalina nightlife in the off season - people! This place was packed when the other (two) bars were pretty empty. I was pretty hammered for most of my visit here, so I can't tell you much more, but worth a visit while on the island. I can't remember the guys name now, but I guess he is a fixture at the bar - vietnam vet who lost one hand during the war and amazingly enough had hit 24 hole in ones on the island golf course when I met him. Give this guy some love/appreciation and buy him a tequila shot - he deserves it. Owner and his wife were really friendly too. Fun place. read more

This is a drinkers bar. Trust me, I know, Ima drinker. I'd describe it as a quasi dive / sports bar. Plenty of screens, a couple pool tables and music 2 or 3 nights a week. The two nights we partied here, Brian the bartender (a man of few words), was on his game and pouring good strong drinks. JL's is the locals bar in Avalon. My boyfriend has been coming to Catalina for 30 years and since he was of drinking age, JL's has been the spot. The bartender Bobby is always on point, pours solid stiff drinks, and is a good guy. They have a dartboard and two pool tables as well, and a new machine where you can pay to pick the music you wanna play which is pretty cool. I definitely recommend this place to be your last stop of the night, it really kicks off around 11 or later! read more

Came into this place a few times while visiting the island. The Cubs, a team with history on the island, were raising their championship banner. Came in the night before to ask if they would put the sound on the next night and Simon, a bartender, said yes. Showed up almost 2 hours before the game started. Brian, a bartender, claimed that he'd put the sound on once it started. As it got closer, he claimed he had to wait until a group of songs stopped playing on the jukebox that patrons had played. When they did, he still didn't put the sound on overhead. Then he switched shifts with a female bartender and as the game was about to start, she claimed she didn't know how to control the sound and Brian claimed the same. How can you call yourself a sports bar and not be able to control the sound in the bar for games? Brian had no problem asking for us to close out before the shift change so we could tip him but couldn't see through on his promise. Meanwhile, sitting at the bar, we had to listen to a loudmouth patron at the end of the bar try to pick up on a group of school teachers by dropping the f bomb at the top of his lungs repeatedly. I'm not a prude but at some point you'd think they'd tell him to use some other choice words. Nope. All in all, I see no reason to go back. Plenty of dive bars on the island. This one doesn't even offer food. read more

I stayed at Hotel Atwater across the street, and this place kept me up all night with the noise. However, it sounded like the best party I have ever heard in my life, I was almost tempted to come down and join in the ruckus. Maybe next time! The place redeemed itself the next day during NFL Sunday. Lots of big flat screens to watch multiple games, and very friendly bartenders. The iciest glasses of beers I've had on the whole island. I drank here while I was on vacation and probably was the best bar out of all of them. Good place to watch sports. Cool decor. Although it didn't faze me, you immediately notice it's mostly younger locals who definitely don't make you feel welcomed. I felt I was on an episode of Bar Rescue for a minute. Me and my husband come to Catalina 5-6 times a year to fish and this bar is OUR FAVORITE BAR ON THE ISLAND. Bobby (the bartender) is awesome and makes the best drinks and has lots of stories about the island. We love listening to his stories and showing him pictures of the fish we catch. He even gave my husband a free beer mug on his 30th birthday!! We watch baseball games, play pool and listen to some awesome music as we sip on delicious drinks...doesn't get better than this place after a long day of fishing. This is a classic dive bar where all the locals come. My first time at this bar was just bad. Come in on our first night in the island buy a beer and play pool and we were hassled by locals. Second time we met Margie, just an awesome bartender. My husband and I needed a Birthday drink and atmosphere since it was his bday. Now we chose this place cause my husband would prefer bars than a club any day. So I would have given this place five stars if I didn't see the bartenders keep serving two people who were already so drunk, they couldn't even walk. They were older too but still that is not ok. Granted everything that lives there goes there drinks it up and walks home but that isn't fair for us who these two people fell on us twice and got real close to us to where we can smell their drinks on their breath and it got too personal to fast. Now to the good part...after the drunk society left, the TV's were play football and basketball. We had a great time and the drinks kept getting stronger after each one and the prices were awesome. They had a live band around 10pm and the younger crowd was coming in. Everybody is friendly and we really enjoyed ourselves at this bar. My fiancé and I love this place. It's a classic bar with TVs, pool, darts, and other bar games. I'm not the biggest PBR fan, but we always get a schooner of it at The Locker Room. The beer is so cold and the schooners so chilled... the beer actually freezes on the outside of the glass and crystallizes at the surface. So good on a sunny summer day in Avalon.
