Shall we begin with the bag of onions that were sitting on the floor in the kitchen, the queso fundido that should have a choking hazard in the description, or the old fries that were mixed in with our nachos? The only bright side to this restaurant is that they made a good margarita. If you're craving Mexican food, this is not the place. The salsa was also reminiscent of a jar of Marinara with a few pieces of cilantro thrown in there for fun. The queso fundido was quite literally melted cheddar cheese with a cheese pull for miles, but also was not chewable which I didn't even know was possible. So we finally ordered & went outside. He also didn't hesitate to give us the check while we were still eating and came to check if we paid I told him we are in the middle of eating (hadn't ate all day) and we weren't ready. We asked for chips and salsa a few times while waiting, but they didn't bring anything out until our food came out. This was confusing to us because the restaurant was empty! Still, it took nearly an hour for them to bring out our food. The enchiladas I ordered were a mix of mole and verde. What I received was verde and red sauce, which wasn't even an option on the menu. The enchiladas were extremely bland and required a lot of hot sauce. The kids ordered Beyond Burgers, and I asked for these to be made with cheese only. After a long day we came across this bar and grill. The decor was nice and they offered indoor and outdoor seating. We were seating fairly quick however it did take a while to place an order for drinks. We got chips and salsa with guac and I ordered a wet shrimp burrito. The guac was fresh and had great flavor and the chips tasted like they were freshly made in house. The burrito itself was very flavorful. The salsa gives it a good spice but also a ton of flavor. We recently visited Catalina and decided to try Coyote Joe's during our trip. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to our expectations, particularly when it came to value for money. For just two people, each with an enchilada plate and one drink, our bill came to over $120 not sure if I got overcharged for things because this felt quite steep compared to the other restaurants we visited on the island. At several of those spots, all four of us were able to enjoy a meal and a drink for the same price, or even less.. The quality of the food at coyote Joes also was not the greatest. Visit on July 28, 2026 - Very disappointing. Although I realize it was a busy day - lots of people on the island and a cruise ship also...the service was absolutely terrible. Waited over 25 min just to order after being seated and then.... Food took over 45 min to arrive after ordering. Was expecting at least standard Mexican fare - was served Chips and salsa (for a fee) salsa was straight up SPAGHETTI Marinara sauce - terrible. I ordered a ground beef taco plate... the ground beef had NO SEASONING - not even salt and pepper. My daughter ordered the Birria Taco plate... Again meat tasted like standard pot roast and dipping sauce was flavorless. My sister had just a single steak taco - once again = chopped meat had NO SEASONING what so ever - VERY DISAPPOINTING. Add this to $6 soda's and nobody ever checking back with us ... AND we had to track down a staffer to obtain the check. I love Avalon... but would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. read more

We spend every fall on the island, yet somehow had never tried this place before--and now we're wondering why we waited so long. The Buffalo Milk cocktail was absolutely delicious: rich, creamy, and easily a contender for the best on the island. The nachos were unforgettable--a towering plate of warm chips piled high with melted cheese, black beans, and tender steak. It was truly enough to feed a small village; I had to take half back to our boat for a late-night snack. My husband ordered the pork mole, another standout, with tender pork smothered in a spicy-sweet red mole sauce, served alongside perfectly cooked beans and rice. Portions here are incredibly generous. Just as impressive as the food was the service. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of--checking in often and even making sure our dog was cozy and content. That level of warmth and attention is rare, and it made the whole experience feel especially welcoming. We'll definitely be back--and next time, we're bringing friends. Cayote Joe's is a restaurant/bar with Mexican food and burgers. I'm normally not a salsa and chips person, but their salsa and chips were delicious. Somehow their tortilla chips had a slight chewiness to it which I couldn't get enough of. I ordered the burger and fries. It was good but don't expect a gourmet truffle burger here. It's more of the backyard BBQ burger- and I'm a lover of all burger types! So you decide if that's your thing. We ate at the bar and the bar tender was very friendly. It wasn't as busy as some of the other restaurants. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There's TVs that have the game on.
