I really didn't want to leave this review, but I feel as though people need to be aware of this if they are looking to book with Angie. I went in wanting a vivid partial, but she convinced me to do some really soft highlights that were super natural just to add a touch of dimension because of life circumstances. During my consultation, she said that was totally doable and suggested some partial baby lights. I let her know that sometimes my communication is a little poor and needed a bit of over explanation; she again said it was totally fine, and she could handle it. This was my first time getting highlights, so I am unfamiliar with the process. Not once did she check in with me about the tone or the shade of the highlights during the appointment.  After getting my hair styled, I had a bright (almost) platinum money piece. I was a bit surprised, but asked if she could just tone it down a bit. She immediately said she wasn't going to be in that weekend; I had no issues with waiting a week. I bought the amazing shampoo she recommended, thanked her, and went on my way. Went in the next week and had the roots blended and the tone brought closer to what I wanted. She dried the front, but it looked the same to me since the lighting in there is front lit and harsh white. It didn't help that the hair behind it was wet, so it was darker, which made the dry pieces look lighter. She told me to be brutally honest at the initial appointment, so I very kindly said I wasn't sure since it looked the same. We agreed that it was the lighting and that I would go home to check. This was after she monologued for 5 minutes about how she's a Malibu Barbie blonde specialist and not someone who does subtle blonde, that maybe I wasn't a highlight person and I should seek someone else (even though I had already complimented her multiple times on the highlights outside my bangs, I just didn't want the money piece). I Ieft after saying thank you and felt awful for voicing my concerns. Once I got home, it looked absolutely fantastic in better lighting. I shot her a text thanking her and apologized for not being able to tell in the salon. If it had been left at that, it would have been fine. I wasn't going back anyway, but I didn't feel compelled to write a review since, in the end, my hair was fine and I was treated fine. In the morning (yesterday), she responded, saying that we wouldn't be a good fit because she is an anxious person (basically telling me not to come back despite me being very patient, kind, and understanding). This was very unprofessional considering she told me to be honest and I was nothing but kind through the whole process. I am very disappointed that she did not turn me away during the consultation or even before the appointment when I made my needs as clear as possible, and she realized she wasn't a fit. I wish she had advertised that she was a "Malibu Barbie Specialist" at that point, or at least recommended me to someone else in the salon. Now I feel very unwelcome because of how she treated me during the adjustment, and the comment made in the DM's. Needless to say, I will not be returning, even to buy a refill of shampoo. :( TLDR:  Went in for a subtle natural highlight. I was told it could be done (with great enthusiasm) and I could be accommodated, just to later go in for an adjustment to be told I should've expected it since she was obviously a "Malibu Barbie Blonde Specialist." *Side note: I don't need a response from anyone; I just wanted to share my experience.* read more

The woman who cut my hair was nice, but I had asked for a low maintenance cut and that's not what I got. I couldn't replicate what the stylist had done, so I called (as my stylist said I could) and asked to have my bangs shortened and the hair flicking out over my ears taken off. The receptionist said I needed an appointment (even though the trim to make my haircut better would take under 5 minutes) and she could not get me in on any of the days I had time to go. The receptionist was less than friendly and definitely not accommodating. So, I will go to holiday parties with my shaggy hair and let people know I went to The Loft. read more

I had the worst experience with my haircut from Martha recently. I have used this hair salon for a few years. Martha was an OK hair designer in the beginning, but recently her skills, service, and attitude become extremely unprofessional and deteriorated. On my last visit in March, she demonstrated the terrible service possible, and I experienced the worst service that no one can imagine at the salon. When I first arrived for my appointment on time, she was on the phone, and she started my haircut 20 minutes later. I did not mind the late start at all, since I was not in hurry, and all I care about was having a fine haircut. However, this just continued with a series of weird, rude, and unprofessional behaviors of her. 1) Her weirdest behavior occurred at the beginning of the haircut. Whenever she did finish my haircut, I experienced lots of small hairs attached all over my back, chest, and shoulder. This also was getting worse recently. I thought it could be prevented if I put some tissues around my neck (like I experienced in other salons). So, I asked her if I could put some Kleenex around my neck before my haircut. All of sudden, she choked my neck with the cape that was put around my neck for a haircut. I was so shocked and told her to stop it and said it was too much. She said, "oh, sorry, was it too strong? I thought it might prevent hair drops better." I should have noticed that this was intentional and part of her weird behaviors. But, I could not think that way since I was too shocked by choking at the moment. How anyone could even think about being choked at the hair salon, whatever the reasons (whether a hairdresser could have had a bad day or hurried up for her next customer)? 2) Soon after she started my hair, all of sudden, she said loudly, "OH, I don't want to hurt your neck, OH NO, I do not want to cut your skin. I will use a buzzer". After that, she cut my entire hair with a buzzer instead of scissors - I had never experienced any hair designer using a buzzer for haircuts at a salon in my life. I asked her politely, referring only to my previous visits to her, and said, "you never used a buzzer for my haircut before, and now you are using a buzzer. Is this normal?" She simply responded saying, "Oh, it will be great". 3) However, the results were not great at all: the line of my hair was not even straight. But, I did not even talk about non-straight hairlines to her since there was a bigger issue that I wanted to fix besides uneven hairline. I only asked her to trim the right side hair a bit slimmer since it was too thick and unbalanced with the left side, when she showed me the mirror after she finished my hair. 4) Martha responded very irritably and loudly, saying, "YOU ONLY HAVE 6 MINUTES LEFT! Other customers already came. You should have said an angled bob, this is a bob straight cut!" - I did not say or use the word "bob cut." I explained the haircut with the picture I used for my previous visit and requested the same haircut. I felt ridiculous about this situation since she started my session 20 minutes later due to her personal phone call, then blamed me for her poor time management. I would have 26 minutes left if she started my session on time. I almost wanted to say it, but I did not since I had to focus on fixing the bigger issue. I asked her, "Can you do it within 6min?" She said, "I can do it but IT WOULD NOT BE PERFECT!" And, of course, it was not perfect. *Choking, haircut with a buzzer not a scissor, yelling at customer saying, "you only have 6 minutes" after she started my session 20 minutes later - I cannot pick the worst. Anyone who goes salon expects a good feeling of being pampered and treated nicely. I have always given 20% (or more) tips to my hair designers (including her) regardless of the outcome. I felt stupid that I spent my money for this horrible feeling. I share this detailed long story since I wish no one has this horrible experience in the future. I went to another salon in town and they absolutely ruined my hair. With my wedding just 2.5 months away, I was terrified that my fried hair would fall out by my wedding day. I found Martha on yelp and she was able to fix my hair! She made time for me and saw me after closing. She was able to lift the orange color out of my hair and treated my hair to restore its integrity. Martha got my hair looking great just in time for my bridal shower! I took a chance here, based on the before/after pictures and a quick scan of prices listed on the website to make sure I was on the same page. Martha's website does not do justice to her level of expertise. I've been going to the same Korean salon in Chicago for ten years, driving three hours down while living in Madison because I couldn't find other stylists who knew how to work with my hair. Martha knows hair. We started my appointment with a consultation in which Martha schooled me on hair coloring, not shying away from getting into the chemistry and technique. I loved that she did this; I am more knowledgeable going in the next time, and she communicated clearly and generously. Nothing inspires me more than meeting people really good at what they do. Did you guys know all our hairs have: one giant blue molecule: O two medium sized red molecules: 00 and three small yellow molecules: ooo When you dye your hair, the blue molecules get stripped first, and you're left with mostly red and yellow. That's why dyed hair often turns orange!! She spent fours hours with me, and I left with non-orange, subtle dimension to inconspicuously grow my roots out, a beautifully layered cut, and tons of volume which I didn't know my hair could even do. My fiance said I looked like an older, younger woman. Aww, he knows just what to say. :_) I never thought I would find someone as personable as Martha, who could meet my high expectations, at a price within my budget. A few practical tips about pricing, compared to other places in town her rates are competitive given her experience. I'm guessing she's able to do this because she runs her own business and it's not a spa. But, if you're not familiar with how much coloring costs, just know it can add up especially if you're going for a specific look. If price is something you're sensitive about you might want to make sure to discuss everything in advance, since listed prices may not be what she does with you at the end of the day, given her first priority to get you the results you want. I recommend scheduling a few weeks in advance too, she's independently running both the Madison and New Glaurus salon, among other interesting projects she has going on. read more

I've seen Angi T at the Loft 3 times. I'm super happy with the cuts and colors she's done. I left my old salon because I felt like I was getting passed around from stylist to stylist and wasn't getting consistent service. But I've been able to schedule with Angi each time, and I've gotten in quickly which is always nice. I LOVE the color she's done for me. We spent a good amount of time talking about my hair goals and looking at photos before she colored me. I've gotten tons of compliments and more importantly, I love the color. Online booking is a scam... I would have like to get my hair cut here and I tried to book an appointment online. Received an email that my appointment request was pending and to finish setting up my account online. I never got confirmation until my appointment time rolled around when I got a call and A FEE for no showing the appointment that never got confirmed in the first place. When I tried to call back to clear up the confusion they didn't answer the phone. Try a different salon if you want good customer service. read more
