It has been about 20 years since I was last here, so recently we came in to celebrate a birthday. We made reservations for a Friday evening and brought a group of 10. The staff at The Log Cabin was very accommodating and seated us in front of their beautiful fireplace in the dining room. The menu is loaded with so many seafood options, the majority of which are done in the traditional style (broiled, baked, fried) and all of it was appetizing when reading the descriptions in the menu. Everything we got was great! Everyone loved their dishes. It was plated beautifully and was obviously made using very fresh seafood and other ingredients. We loved the food so much that we'll most definitely return for a date night and for future special dinners. I hope they continue to be successful and stay around another 84 years! read more

Out of this world vibes...in a good way! Clam CHOWDAH was good. Steaks could use more seasoning, but tasted great & the sides (squash & potatoes) were FABULOUS. My wife took me to the Log Cabin Restaurant for my birthday (never mind which one). The Log Cabin is a restaurant we had driven by countless times since we moved down to Fredericksburg last year. We knew that it was right on Route 1 at Rowser Street, at the entrance to the Rappahannock Regional Jail. The building is an actual log cabin (or at least looked that way). We also knew that it was a very good seafood restaurant. So when my birthday was approaching, my wife suggested The Log Cabin Restaurant. The Log Cabin looks like a log cabin, but when you go inside, it's very elegant. It has wooden tables and chairs, and is a bit dimly lit. We were greeted by a very friendly person, and seated next to a big beautiful brick fireplace which has a wonderful scene created inside. My wife started with a signature Cucumber Martini, which she loved. I had a Vienna Lager. For an appetizer we had baked oysters topped with shrimp and a mushroom wine sauce, and finished with melted cheese. They were decadent. Very creamy, the wine sauce was fabulous. For dinner my wife had Fresh Idaho Rainbow Trout, stuffed with crabmeat and wrapped with bacon. She reported that the trout was light and flaky, and the crabmeat was the best she's had. She finished her whole dinner, which isn't always the case. I had the Norfolk Combo, which is crabmeat, shrimp, and scallops broiled in butter. I savored every mouthful, and was sad whe it was gone. Each entree was accompanied by potato and a spinach salad. We also had asparagus with melted cheese, which was prepared perfectly. For Desert, we split a Cheesecake topped with cherries, which was amazing. Our server also presented me with a "Happy Birthday" Creme Brule. We both knew that this was one of the better meals we were ever going to have. Our server was friendly and knew the menu well. We love when a server feels free to make suggestions, and our server did this. She was quick to help us when we desired it, and left us alone to enjoy our dinner otherwise. The Log Cabin is definitely not inexpensive, and we realize that this is a special occasion restaurant, at least for us. However this is one of the best meals we have had in recent memory. If you love decadently prepared seafood and can handle the cost, please give The Log Cabin Restaurant a try. read more

Very tasty! We all loved our meals, and several of us were impressed by the crab cakes - truly no filler. They don't have a high chair, if you have little kids, though they do have a booster seat. Kids' menu is butter noodles, homemade chicken tenders, or shrimp. Most of our meals came with a salad and side, though it's not really mentioned on the menu. The wait staff read us the sides (maybe they change from day to day?). Very delicious meal, in an unassuming setting. read more

A favorite of mine here in Stafford. It definitely gives off that family owned vibe. Whenever I'm in the mood for some good seafood or even a steak, this is the local place. Service is good, and it doesn't hurt to make a reservation. This place is nice if you want a quality meal that's a little more fancy without heading into the city. Amazing food and incredible service. The decor is incredibly dated and, at first glance, off/putting. If you find yourself having those thoughts when walking in PLEASE PUSH THROUGH - the food makes up for whatever theme the decorations are trying to be. I highly suggest the crab cakes. We have found our monthly go to place for date night. We always pass the place but never have gone. Husband saw reviews and they did not disappoint. It is beautifully decorated with the best low lighting. Quiet and calm that we lost ourselves being able to be in the moment with no distractions. Service was just as it should be. Although as someone with auditory processing disorder, I did struggle a little with keeping up with everything said that was not on the menu. Regardless, our waitress, Kelsie, was nice and courteous. We never had to look or call for her. Food was great. We both had the steak and shrimp. Loved the shrimp, steak melted in your mouth and was cooked exactly to order. First when you get there you have to walk very close to the cars whizzing by on Rt 1 as the sidewalk is right by the road to the other side of the building to get to the entrance. This is just silly. They have an entrance right by the parking lot away from the road but with signs all over -emergency exit only, handicap entrance only, do not open alarm will sound....Ideally they need to make the side entrance the main entrance and move some tables and hostess stand to accommodate this. This is not only for convenience but safety of your customers. The sitting area at the main entrance in my opinion is a waste of space and quite out dated (everything about this place is outdated). Utilize the sitting room area and hostess stand as a dining area. They have some candles for sale and an antique cabinet. Just odd to have random items for sale. It took 2.5 hours for dinner service which was ridiculous. The server was very friendly but where did she keep going?!? She rarely checked on us. I ordered a salad with ranch and got some apple dressing. I ate it regardless as she didn't come back to see how the starters were and I will say it was good. I'm assuming the manager (lady with long gray hair in a pony tail) was having a bad day. She is VERY unprofessional and came out of the kitchen screaming out loud walking towards the hostess stand at the entrance just yelling. Then kept yelling for about 5 minutes disturbing everyone's dinner. I'm not sure if it was at the hostess or was venting to her...she was too far to make out was being said but kept yelling....for a "high end" restaurant your outburst was not appreciated and this shouldn't be your line of work. Not acceptable whatsoever! The prices overall are very high. If it was more updated and service was more top notch I could justify the price. The best thing here is the food -it tasted amazing! The filet was cooked perfectly, lobster tails were fabulous! The desserts were good but at $12/13 each overpriced for what you get. Ambiance was for me the best thing. The inside of the establishment makes you feel like you are in the alps. Food is tastefully prepared and generous portions. We had my sons 17th birthday at The Log Cabin and it was delicious. This was our first time here .... On the outside the restaurant looks like a log cabin (duh) appears to be a tad outdated and the parking lot is a bit confusing because they are growing vegetables in pots in the parking lot don't let this deter you from going... When you walk inside the decor is romantic with a touch of a home comfy feel. Staff welcomed us with a smile. We had 12 people in our party with 2 waitresses. I highly recommend this place however menu doesn't come close to everything they have, they only have 2 speciality drinks listed on the menu and a full wine list. They don't have a bar menu with drink options (ideas) or a list a beer which is a negative when looking at reviews. After reviewing their menu the sides aren't listed on the menu and they have nightly chef specials but not listed just verbally told what they have. All entrees come with a salad. The Pineapple martini - hands down was a score. I think this place could get huge if they fixed a few things but I honestly would recommend locals to try this place as you won't be disappointed. We have been intending to visit this place for as long as we have lived in the Stafford area (about 14 years) and had never made it. We took the opportunity to go to celebrate our anniversary. The staff were amazing and the establishment itself is extremely cozy. The food however was a bit rough. I ordered a steak and received a completely unseasoned, bland piece of meat that took effort to work my way through. My wife had the trout and enjoyed it though. Excellent meal in this cozy, locally owned establishment. Noticed they grow their own cherry tomatoes outside as we walked from the parking lot around the building to the main entrance. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. As it was 8pm there were plenty of seats. No bar here from which we could watch the game but they have a full bar. Drinks were good but at $11 each we thought the pricing was a little high. Restrooms are one at a time and very clean! We skipped the appetizer in lieu of dessert. Hubby ordered the Cabin Platter, fried and everything was cooked to perfection. He especially liked the crab cake with absolutely no filler. I chose the rainbow trout and it was a smidge under cooked but was moist and flavorful. Loved the bacon too. Dessert was excellent. We shared a single homemade key lime pie in a ramekin dish, complete with graham cracker crust & whipped cream. Great way to end the meal. We would definitely stop back when in the area. read more

I love this restaurant and always leave happy. The restaurant is small but cozy and the fireplace is always burning and keeping it warm. The menu is small but has plenty of options and it's hard to decide even when I already have an idea of what I am getting. The service is a no rush service, what I mean when saying this is if you plan to run and dine in a half hour then you have picked the wrong spot. So when dining at The Log Cabin expect to be there for 90 minutes if not more, The wife and I always plan 90 minutes to 2 hours when coming here. The servers are going to give you plenty of time to read over the menu and will not rush you but will make sure you have your drinks while you decide. Which is great to me and it gives me time to talk to the wife and enjoy my drink. This trip in was for Valentine's Day and we had a late reservation but the restaurant was still pretty full of guests talking and enjoying themselves. We started off with the Oysters Summerville, which fantastic, oyster with a Shrimp covered in cheese and other things I just can't remember but still was a hit with the wife and I. We then were served a cup of the Clam Chowder and again fantastic! I don't normally get soup when I go to a restaurant but I am so glad I did decide to get it. The next thing up was a house salad for the wife and I and I opted for the Apple Cider vinaigrette. The Apple Cider vinaigrette was great and it was not something I have had before but if it's always an option I recommend getting this dressing for your salad. They also brought bread with butter before anything was served. The main course was the Broiled Seafood Platter with a baked potato and a cup of broccoli casserole. The seafood was a lobster tail, shrimp, and a crab cake. It was all delicious! All in all it was another delicious and fantastic experience at the Log Cabin. The Log Cabin is considered fine dining and they don't really have a dress code but people do dress respectfully and act respectfully. When the wife and I dine here it cost us no less than $275 for the two of us. Our current visit was $349 after tip. That included all the food listed in the review and liquor. So it's not a cheap restaurant but for us it was well worth it. read more

The decor and ambiance to me was dark, dank, and dusty. I along with my son had a hard time breathing in here. I'm assuming it was from the old carpeting. My stars are for the service! Our waitress is what made it an enjoyable evening. She was so sweet and talked to us about the area since we're newer to town and she's worked and lived there for many years. I chose this place on a whim. Decided to have some seafood and took my son on a date. On the way there, I was thinking "please don't let this place be some rinky-dink hole in the wall." Not even close. It looked very "log cabin" on the outside and the inside. The atmosphere was very "romantic." What I mean is, it's very dark but it's lit at your table and very intimate. I didn't have wine because I was driving and my son can't drink so I can't say anything about the beverages but the food was great. My son had the 3 seafood pasta plate or whatever it's called and he said it was delicious. He got the highest spicy level and said it had some kick but nothing that would make you not want to eat it. I had the filet mignon topped wrapped in bacon and with lump crab meat. The filet mignon was soft, and cooked to order. The crab meat was great as well. Everything was steaming hot. It took us a few minutes before we can bite into it which is good because sometimes the food can be warm or cold. The server (Jesse) was on top of everything. She checked in on us all the time but not an annoying amount of times. She made sure we had everything we needed and would remove any extra dishes we used. She made sure to ask me to cut into my steak and make sure that was how I wanted it cooked. Needless to say, the food was great and so was the service. I would DEFINITELY come back here again.
