We came by and were the only ones in the restaurant. The waitress had to clean our table after we sat down. We ordered black and blue burger, classic burger, chicken sandwich and 2 orders of 16 wings trying most of the flavors. It took a bit to get our order and my classic burger was warm but not hot. The black and blue burger needed blackening spice. The chicken sandwich and wings were pretty good. The restaurant has a bit of smokey smell which I think may come from the bar. Overall it was ok. We arrived a little late and I never realized there were 2 separate sections with the restaurant on one side and the bar side on the other. The restaurant side closes at 8:00, which thankfully we were just in time to make it in. First of all, the service is outstanding! Our server went above and beyond to make us comfortable and well informed about our choices. I cannot say enough good about her. She deserves all the praise possible. When it comes to the food, we had a myriad items and everything was better than we could hope for! The wings are a hit with anyone I'm sure. I don't recall when I have had wings that good. The ribeye steak was, well excellent is the best way to describe it. Our party also had salmon and tacos. Again, everyone was very happy with everything. Day time barmaid is extremely rude and loves to tell customers to shut up if they attempt to get her attention. She'll stand at one end of the bar chatting with friends and ignore everyone else. 5 stars for food, -1 star for uninspiring decor. Looks unfinished inside and smelled of cigar smoke. Reminded me of a hospital cafeteria from the 1960's. Very sterile. Service was very good though. Ordered burger medium rare - increasingly hard to find places that will book less than medium anymore. Burger was outstanding- best I can remember in a long time. I had the lunch special flat iron steak with two sides and one trip to the salad bar for $7.99. Good price! Steak was ok for a cheap steak. Cooked correctly. I opted for corn and green beans as sides. The corn was nice and buttery the green beans had some ham and onions in it so vegetarians beware. Overall not a bad place at all. I will return. read more

Went in to the restaurant side at @ 6:45 on a nice Friday night. There were a couple tables seated and eating. When we entered a gentleman yelled at us from the wait station that they were closed. I understand that everyone is short staffed but to close at 6:45? Sorry I just cannot recommend a place turning away customers that early. read more

Don't let the lack of curb appeal fool you: Outstanding food here and very well-priced. Shrimp tacos were delicious: 4 large, fresh, lightly battered shrimp with a nice tangy sauce on the side. Fish and chips: fries were really good, with a huge portion of perfectly fried fish. Restaurant on one side, sports bar on the other, and the sports bar was hoppin'! Best kept restaurant secret in Fredericksburg !! If you haven't been, you really need to give this relatively new restaurant a try. Our first dining experience at Charlie G's was really outstanding. The food was really delicious, the prices are great and the service was so good we cant wait to go back !! Our group ordered the shrimp tacos and shared them as an appetizer, the were much larger than we expected and really good. I ordered the baby back ribs expecting the little ones you get at some of the other restaurants and was very pleasantly shocked at the size of the ribs and the amount of perfectly cooked fall off the bone meat they contained. The fries are hard to describe and we all agreed the best we'd had maybe ever. The sports bar on the other side of the restaurant has a private entrance in front keeping the fun crowd noise from bothering restaurant guests who preferred the family atmosphere and comfort food we enjoyed on our first visit. Didn't have time to visit the sports bar this time but had a really good bloody mary and will do both next time we are there. Don't let the lack of interior decor detract from your food and service experience .. everything in it's own good time !! Went to have a late lunch / early dinner and went inside. No wait staff or anyone to be found. We were the only ones in there. So we said HELLO, anyone here . No answer. After 5 minutes (my wife who has a mobility scooter) said let's go. We turn around to see an elderly man watching us down the hallway. We said are you open? He said angrily that we don't open until 5pm. And abruptly turned around and went back into the kitchen door. Amazingly that there are NO hours of operation on the doors. Friday week I went for the Friday special "1 pound of tiny steamed shrimp" meal with potatoes and corn advertised at ONLY $7.99. No other customers were there. I wonder why? After working in the yard all afternoon, I just felt like a good hamburger. Well, remembering Hard Time Cafe used to make a decent one and was nearby, I called to place an order. It is now Charlie G's and the restaurant section has been completely renovated. The hamburger was of quality meat, great size, and cooked to perfection as were the onion rings. We met some friends for dinner tonight. It was the first time there under the new ownership. My husband & I had the catfish. It was superb. Our friends had the ribs & the chicken which smelled appetizing. We will definitely be returning again. The food was great, the service was great & staff was very friendly & accommodating.
