Seeing a world class city such as London with a ten-year-old is challenging, as it's a balancing act between what a child and a middle aged man both find worthwhile. The London Dungeon isn't something I would have seen on my own, but I'm thoroughly pleased I brought my son to see it today. He absolutely loved it, and might have even learned some history along the way. Admission was expensive, but I felt we definitely got our money's worth. Timed tickets worked like a breeze. I bought our tickets for a 2:45 time slot on my phone just ten minutes prior, and when we arrived we walked right in. No line at all. I have a lot of experience in the theater, both acting in and seeing live shows, and I was very impressed by the dedication and talent of all of the actors, as well as all of the sound, lighting and various special effects. The scene with the witch in the cage was particularly excellent. The tour ends with a short "execution" ride, and then out into the macabre gift shop and small pub with a full bar. Would probably be a fun place to stay for a drink after the show. Had a great time and would definitely do it again! read more

Oh, this was so disappointing. We were expecting the torture chambers, and we booked this by mistake! Do the Tower Of London tour if that's what you want to see. I give the actors credit for trying to keep us amused for an hour and a quarter, but how anyone could work in those conditions is beyond me. I thought it was pretty awful. But give it a try if that's your thing. read more

We were looking for something else to do / check out while in town, We got tickets & stopped by, nicely decorated that was fun to see. The place itself is basically an over dramatic play not sure how else to describe it ahh again it was something to do since we were in town for Halloween weekend. At the end of the tour we stopped at the bar area for drinks , drinks were ok a bit too sweet but the little bar area was nice to relax in for a few. Since we were in town Halloween weekend it felt like something to do since it also fit the theme of the weekend can't say it's a must see that would depend on you but it at least was entertaining. read more

This wasn't the experience we expected but we tried to make the most of it. I'd look into what actually this entails (many of the younger kids in the group we were with didn't seem to enjoy it--mainly some of the "bad smells" part of the experience). When we were there, the drop ride wasn't working but they didn't notify us until we already scanned our tickets and were inside--which really bothered some (and I did feel like they should've let us know beforehand). I will say, the actors /workers seemed to really enjoy their jobs which made a "meh" experience so much better. It was fun seeing how energetic and into it they were in their roles. I booked 5 tickets here. In line the woman taking our tickets asked how old my kids were and said it may be a bit scary for our 10 and 7 year olds. My 10 year old heard that and refused to go in. We waited out front for about 15 min because I was sure my 7 year old would come out screaming, but he made it thru. We werent able to get a refund for our tickets, but they did let us use them for shrek adventure right next door which ended up being fun. In fact, my 7 year old was so jealous of shrek adventure that my husband had to take him after london dungeon My husband, 12 year old and 7 year old ended up absolutely loving London dungeon. They came out all smiles and with some fun pics. They said it was a little scary, but all in good fun. We had purchased tickets to this on its own thru our travel agent before arriving in London, but if I were to do it again I'd package it with shrek, London eye and the wax museum since we ended up at all those attractions. read more

I really enjoyed the London Dungeon when I came and visited London! I came to London around Halloween, and decided this would be a fun attraction, considering the time of year. It was a nice mix of historical events and a tourist attraction, with a fun drop at the end. Some parts were scary, but not too bad. Avoid at all costs! When my brother and I were young lads we used to go to the old London dungeon and it was a wonderful Madame Tussaud's wax museum and you would walk from exhibit to exhibit seeing the various tortures used over the years. Now, it is just an embarrassment of bad acting done by children most of which has nothing to do with torture or dungeons at all. Literally cringeworthy and uncomfortably bad for the performers and the 30 tourists that they overcharge and drag through a tedious milange of embarrassing skits. A complete rip off and you will honestly wish you paid the price of admission to not have to go through their stupid "haunted house." You will literally have a more enjoyable time going through a cheesy haunted house at a seaside resort instead of doing this and it won't cost you $35 per person. read more

It took too long. It didn't have to be almost two hours. It's not scary. It's more of a theatrical history lesson. They said people will jump at you (like knotts scary farm or universal horror nights), but that didn't happen once. The boat ride was nice. It felt like pirates of the Caribbean a Disneyland. But you get slightly wet. It was a lot of talking and going from room to room and just listening to the same thing over and over. No camera or photo during the tour tho. You will spend around 1hour in this dungeon (I feel like 1hour or more in there). They will take you go different rooms. My husband and I did this as an add-on to the London Eye tickets. It was fun. Think haunted house meets community theater. It is about 90 minutes long, and you are on your feet for most of it. There are some historical facts. For example I will never forget that the London fire was in 1666. The actors are fun to watch and interact well without ever touching you. There are also a couple of short rides that add a bit of fun. If you are already doing several of the attractions around there and have some extra time it is worth adding on your ticket. My daughter, who will be five soon, could have gone but we are glad we had her stay with Grandma. I would say a child should be at least ten years old to enjoy it. read more

For anyone from America: it's basically the Salem version of a tourist attraction here so if you don't want to blow about 50 pounds here to have a silly, low production good time, skip it. It was more informative than scary (if that). My girlfriend and I (both older 20s) decided to go as she has been prior and said it was a good way to spend about 2 hours. We had flex tickets and walked right in before the tour started which was good timing. Overall we had a great time but it was expensive for what the experience was. Sweeney Todd and Jack the Ripper scenes were the most "scary" parts but everyone was laughing the by the end of each. There is a mirror section where half of our tour got lost and had to be corralled back together. This isn't a must see attraction and I wouldn't do it again unless I went with people who enjoyed low production scare places. There was a range of kids who handled themselves great and no one was crying. (Spoiler) Most of the kids couldn't do the drop at the end due to their height. read more

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I bought these tickets, but I had an amazing time. You get to travel from room to room learning about the dark history of London. As someone from New York, I knew about some of these events, but I actually learned so much more than I imagined through their factual theatrics. I was engaged, having fun and learning all at the same time. Keep in mind there's definitely jump scares and moments of pitch darkness, but it was never anything too terrible. The tour ends with a drop ride, that you can skip if you'd like. It was a small drop and I thought it was a lot of fun! If I came back to London soon I would probably do it again! read more

My husband and I had a fun and thrilling ride!! It was fully interactive and the actors were so amazing and believable. I really enjoyed every second. I originally thought this was just a museum showing torture devices lol but I then was pleasantly and horrifyingly surprised with a fully immersive experience of the dark history of London. From the Great fire of London, torture devices of conspirators and traitors, the plague, witch curses, Sweeney Todd's Barber shop and of course Jack the Ripper! We got to experience it all. Oh yeah, look mom...i'm an international yelper! ;p So my spouse and I took our kids here at their requests a week ago and I think I liked it more than the kids did. Mind you they are ages 13, 11 and 9, but none the less, this place was very interesting. Yes, a bit pricey (thus only 4 stars), but totally worth it! It's complete with historical facts, fun gruesome sights and details, a couple of rides, and comical bits too, like in the court room and torture rooms. Oh! Take it from a parent who took her kids here, it may not be such a good idea. Our kids act all cool as tho they love scary things, but when it came down to entering the Dungeon, they were scared shit-less! It was a bit funny, but luckily we were 3 adults and 3 kids and each and every kid had their arms locked around an adult's arm and refused to let go throughout the whole time there. Coming from this parent who likes scary things too, it was quite gruesome. It is mostly dark throughout the dungeons too, so heads up if you are near-sided and take your glasses! lol. I think I am just an ignorant American, but I had no idea Jack the Ripper was based on true events and that it occurred in London. Can you say Awesomeness? As soon as I could, i'll post a pic of the pic we got on the last hanging ride....its just a drop type of ride, but scared me St8! This attraction is pricey and cheesy, yet it is entertaining. 1st - You may need a reservation to get your tour. I have heard of people not being able to go in because they did not reserve a spot. 2nd - It is best if you purchase a packaged ticket to go to the aquarium, London Eye, Shrek, or wax museum with this attraction. That is the only way this place is worth it. 3rd - This is not a haunted house. It is great for little kids. 4th - You along with 50 other guests are led through about 20 rooms where a cast performs a 5-10 minute skit. Very funny and entertaining. This is such a ripoff! We bought a combined ticket with Madame Tussaud's (2 in 1 Madame Tussauds and the London Dungeon). When we booked online, we were asked to reserve a time-slot online for Madame Tussauds, and were told that we could go anytime within 90 days after to the London Dungeon. Well, we went there today, an hour before the last entry and were told that they couldn't accommodate us today. We told them that we are flying back to the USA tomorrow but they could care less. When we asked for a refund they told us to go back to Madame Tussaud's for a refund!?!? I just don't understand how these establishments work. There was no indication anywhere that we needed to reserve a time to visit the London dungeon. We feel totally cheated and will never return! read more

I like to get spooked, so The London Dungeon was a no-brainer. Pros: - The wait went by very quickly. It took us maybe 15 minutes before we got into the museum. - Restroom was right inside the museum before any of the performances. Get the pee out now so it doesn't come out later! - The performances were very engaging and interactive. If you stand in the front of the group expect to be called out or volunteered for part of the act! - There were many cool features (boat ride at the beginning, "drop" ride at the end, floors that moved, seats that moved or blew air or water, mirror maze, disorienting tunnel, smoke and light tricks, etc) - The bar at the end was the perfect place to decompress and talk about wtf you just experienced! Cons: - Some performances are more engaging than others and, since you must stay with your group, you must stay until the end of each performance. - There is not seating in each area and some of the areas that do have seating do not have enough for the entire group. Expect to stand for 3/4 of the tour. - While children under 12 are not recommended, they can still join. This resulted in some scared, teary- eyed little kids on our tour. It can be terrifying, violent, and gruesome. I think a mature 7 year-old could handle it, but any age below might want to be left at home. read more

You spend the first 15 to 20 minutes in a queue to take "scary pictures" in which they try to sell it to you at the end of the experience, and they don't give you the option to skip it. Then we waited to start the tour another 15 minutes in a small crowded room with poor actors. This is not the traditional London dungeon where you can see the different torture devices; it's really a poor theatrical production. there is a peculiar part, where a witch gyrates with strobe lights for five minutes. if you have an hour of time in London, where you were bored and want to waste 150 pounds, then this may be the place for you. read more

The actors were incredible, with every person completely committed to their character. There was one witch who scared the hell out of two teenage boys in front of us to the point where one of the boys started crying. Seriously! Go! The first time I came to the London Dungeon was when I was about 9 years old so it's been a good 18 years... but even disregarding the nostalgia factor, and the magical haze that adds to events/places, the dungeon as it currently exists isn't great. The dungeon I remember had actual historical information on torture, murders, and the like that was heightened by the actors, and actresses lurking throughout it. This dungeon now is nearly exclusively performance based. But it's hardly scary, and not exceptionally well acted. Sweeney Todd, and Jack The Ripper are the stars of this walk-through play. And I suppose it might be entertaining if you're really into those horror characters. And it could be slightly frightening if you're under 12 years old, or if things like the dark scare you. But for your average adult this is neither thrilling, nor frightening. And it's not cheap either. I suggest you skip this attraction, and get your thrills elsewhere. read more

In addition to your standard grisly facts and figures supported by graphic demonstrations, The London Dungeon now offers a truly interactive experience with rides, stories and all new modern unpleasantness. Essentially the place aims to scare you witless but, unless you're particularly squemish, the whole thing is actually pretty funny. If you are here with small children though, be prepared for a lot of screaming. With lots of different attractions including a Jack the Ripper section, the 'Boat Ride to Hell', the 'Drop Ride to Doom', and the Great Plague and Sweeney Todd sections there is plenty here to test your constitution. A great day out for the family but if you suffer from any genuine phobias probably one best to avoid. read more

We've all heard about the famous London Dungeon so when I went to London I had to go check it out. The line outside is WILD. Atleast two blocks long. We waited in line for about 15 minutes and then my boyfriend realized we could pay 5.00 pounds extra to skip the line. Best 5.00 pounds ever spent! As soon as you walk in you feel like you're in a different era. Its dark inside and the decoration is fantastic. The acting is a bit cheesy but its so educational and you learn so much about Englands History - and in a fun way! It's definitely a tourist attraction, but its a fun way to spend your afternoon in London. read more

Also, had to go to the bathroom while I was there at the end and was directed out of the place to another nearby place (for the Eye) but it was closed, which you'd think they would know. It's been a looooong time since I've been to London Dungeons, so long ago I can't really remember it, apart from knowing that sometimes people can jump out at you! Myself and my friend were able to do the 2 for 1 deal on this as we had our national rail tickets. This is a great deal as it works out very pricey otherwise. I thought the dungeons were a lot of fun and spooky too of course. The majority of the staff were very good at their parts, acting overly dramatic, apart from one or two who sounded like they had just learnt their lines!! Overall It's a good bit of cheesy fun while still learning teeny bits of history about the dark side of Britain. it has very low lighting or just total darkness so don't go if you're afraid of the dark.... read more

The London Dungeon used to be an amazing wax museum focusing on crime, griesly murders and horrifying torture. Its educational value was mostly about learning how to inflict suffering on a person. And it was amazing! Years ago, it was purchased by an entertainment company, remodeled, and moved to a more touristic location. It now sucks. It's a cheap haunted house with actors trying their best to pretend you're not being scammed. Even the "grand finale", a cheap ripoff of Disneyland's Tower of Terror, is not worth the price they ask you for this sorry ride. Stay away. read more

We found London Dungeon online and said heck, why not. Caught the TUBE over to it and when we got there the line was INSANE. I am talking about like a 2 hour wait. In typical Miami fashion I walked over to one of the "actors" that was at the exit and said he if I slip you a little something can we skip the line? She replied "Of course love! We have an express entrance! Just 5 pounds more. So we get to the front and take a picture of her beheading me - already a great time. It is a cool, entertaining trip down the darker side of London. Some parts are funny, some parts are scary, most of it is extremely informative. The acting is sketchy at times, but those English accents are awesome to me. All in all it was cool. It was worth the price of admission but is it worth 2 hour wait or $20 (US DOLLARS) EXTRA? Eh, that's up for discussion. But if you have a couple of days in London I would say swing in. My boyfriend bought these tickets and neither one of us had any idea of what to expect. Being a fraidy cat, part of me hated it, but I also had to laugh at what we had gotten ourselves into. Everything was well done and I'd definitely recommend for someone who wants something off the beaten path. I enjoyed the history around the less savory side of London, however, I wish there was more to learn and less gruesome. That being said, we had fun! I recently went to the London Dungeon. I have lived in this great city all my life, but I have never been to one of its greatest and well known attractions. My two younger cousins visiting from Turkey had been pestering me to take them for a while, so I finally gave in. I didn't really expect much, a couple of hours of walking around pretending to enjoy myself and then look forward to the ice cream afterwards; after all it was a sunny day. However, after collecting my tickets from the kiosk, my all hard, all guns blazing younger cousins suddenly had a change of character. They were nice! The younger one didn't even want to go in, but I had just paid £40 so he was definitely going in. Then he started crying. I couldn't believe that an entrance had such an effect. It had a smell, a smell which you would imagine London would have smelt like all those years ago, and the music, it was creepy. My cousin is only 9, so I held his hand, said some soothing words and went head first. I must hand it to the dungeon, it smelt like old London throughout, I really did have to hold my cousins hand for the whole two hours that we spent there. The live installations were fantastic and educational, I really felt that I had a great insight to what old London was like, and smelt like. If you want to learn about one of London's greatest mysteries, that being the mystery of Jack the Ripper, then the Dungeon is where you will find it. That mystery cost me even more money at the shop, having to buy sharpeners, pens and pencils with Jacks silhouette on them. To conclude and give a rating out of ten, well, it was a pricy day out, but definitely worth it. Going with youngsters really added to the laughs and frights, though I think I would have just as good a time going with friends. 8/10 read more

So we went to the dungeon in a family trip with my brother, his wife and mum. I'd never been and it looked like an interesting way to spend some time learning about london history whilst having fun. As we walked in, one the first things I remember was the smell, to many it can be repulsive but I actually like it. It's that humid, damp, smell that sort of settles in generally darker areas. We paid our tickets, and fortunately at the time I was a student so got a discount of £4 (tickets originally £20). We started going round the dungeon and the stories and tales of london begun. The Great Fire, the Plague and Jack the Ripper come to mind. The most outstanding thing of the dungeon were the actors and actresses who told the stories with accents and costumes of the period, they were really enthusiastic and funny. To move around you have to walk and sometimes wait before you can enter the next room, so my legs begun to ache (then again I am not the sportiest of people). When we finally got to the ride that I thought would contain some excitement, maybe would make me really scream and would go fast, I utterly disappointed. On the advertisement poster, the ride appears to be like a fast moving sort of vehicle, it is not. It moves slowly and boringly, there are one or two slopes you go down, again very slowly. All in all, the educational side of it is plus. The rest leaves a lot to desire. read more

Deep in the heart of London, buried beneath the paving stones of historic Southwark lies the world's most chillingly famous horror attraction... NOTE: This review contains spoilers for the London Dungeon. Should you wish for the Dungeon to remain a suspenseful surprise, please refer to other reviews and save this one for after your visit. After catching the tube to London Bridge Station, I soon stood face to face with my terrifying fate - The London Dungeon. Having a very vague memory of a previous visit to the London Dungeon seven years ago, I reassured myself that I would be fine entering the Dungeon despite its reputation for scaring customers. Walking through the main entrance door, I soon found myself in an 18th Century graveyard where I joined a growing queue of nervous patrons. After having my head cut off in a humorous entry photo, I passed my ticket through to the ghoul on the other side of the medieval bars at the ticket booth. The ghoul offered me a London Dungeon Guide, which I accepted for £3.99. Handing me my change, the ghoul wished me a "horrible time." I joined yet another queue and waited for my group's turn to enter the attraction. Ten minutes passed and my anxiety levels were rising. The wax figure hanging by its toes to my right, stomach and intestines hanging freely from its body, did nothing to relax my nerves! Without warning, a humped back figure, I can only assume that it was a Dungeon staff member, appeared and gestured to the next room. Chowing down a bag of sweets that I had found in the bottom of my bag, I was unaware of the deformed figure resting his head on my shoulder. Turning to look absorb the atmosphere of the Dungeon, I let out a high-pitched screamed as my face met his. I grabbed onto the lady next to me, despite her being a total stranger, as the rest of the patrons laughed at my expense. The figure led us into a dimly lit mirror maze and informed us that if we wanted to live, we had to find our way out of the maze. Surviving the mirror maze which seemed to last forever, most of us thought our troubles would be over. How very wrong we were! Upon exit of the maze, a man covered in boils informed us that we had all contracted the Plague of 1665. Unveiling a wax corpse on a table in front of him, he proceeded to perform an autopsy on the body. After removing the body's intestines, the man covered in boils gave the group a dowsing in water, pretending that the liquid had come from the body's bladder! Whipping ourselves down, we made our way as a group into the next room - the Torture Chamber. The Torture Chamber attendant, if you will, demonstrated for us how he used his implements and which his favorites were. He showed us one item in particular that could only be used on males, if you catch my drift. He didn't demonstrate them but he did let all the ladies know that they were available for sale in the London Dungeon gift shop! In the next couple of rooms we were cut open by demon barber Sweeney Todd, chased by Jack the Ripper (an exhibit during which I was referred to as a prostitute by the exhibit attendant!) and had to escape the great fire of London! The London Dungeon is open seven days and week with ticket prices starting from £10. Do not be discoraged by the ticket prices as you receive a 50% discount when booking online. I strongly recommend this as online tickets also allow you to queue jump. Have a horrible time! read more
