I've never had my hair professionally colored, nor have I been to an American based salon before. Groupon: My groupon consisted of color and cut. When I entered the store, the girl who was going to be working on my hair informed me that if I wanted a balayage that it would cost $30 extra, and for the length of my hair, another $20 (on Groupon they constantly advertise balayage, but there is no mention of the extra costs there). My friend who bought the same groupon said she was not charged extra, which is why I decided to give it a try, but low and behold. You know what, that's fine, I've already bought the groupon and was already sitting down. Experience: I asked for a trim of my long hair and a balayage. Trim: I asked for a basic trim, or about 1 inch off. I assume, easy enough. I'm not asking for something really bizarre? She literally only cuts the TOP portion of my hair and straight cut the rest. It's extremely choppy, jagged, and straight up looks like I asked my 10 year old cousin to do it for me. I didn't even realize it was this bad until I saw it today, which is why I decided to write a review. You might ask, why didn't I notice this in the salon or before? You sit facing AWAY from any mirrors at the salon, which is strange to begin with. I hated the haircut from the beginning and thought it was really bad, but I didn't know how bad it was until my mom pointed it out recently. See below for pictures. Balayage: not great, not terrible. I barely see the new color, but it's very similar to what I previously had. During the time the girl was dying my hair, she asked the owner many questions as to how to correctly balayage, what's the correct technique, how to put foil on, etc. she did not seem like she completely knew what she was doing and this should've been my sign. Sadly, my hair was curled at the end so even when looking in the mirror, it was hard to tell there was any issues. This entire experience makes me wary to try any new places again. Especially anything off of groupon.

The thing I was most impressed with about Amelia is the time she took to understand not only our hair goals, but to understand our hair! What's going on with it that we have seen, what she can see, what she suggests, what products we currently use and which ones she recommends. I learned things about my hair AND about the products I already have at home that I had NO CLUE about. I have never had someone take so much time and be so thoughtful about my hair at a salon. I have had the typical "what would you like done today?", "what are we thinking?", etc. but this was education and meeting me where my hair is with the goal of getting me where I would like to be. She also took the time to explain why some hair styles wouldn't turn out the way the way it looked for other people in pictures I had saved. Ie. Texture, length, density, extensions, etc. Amelia is so sweet and thoughtful. We had such a great birthday experience together and I am so grateful that it's only a short trip to have such a wonderful salon visit! Two adorable personalities welcomed me at the door, and offered a choice of drinks. I didn't have to wait, and to my surprise, Janet Prince greeted me. Janet is a master hair artist, a local business owner- with an impeccable reputation. I left happy with an updated hairstyle, and an extra skip in my step. Two days prior to our event, an out of town guest needed an extension adjustment. I call Arbor- without hesitation, they made accommodations.
