I will never purchase online from them again. Purchased a preorder reel from them and they never shipped it. Payment went through immediately, never received confirmation from them that the order was made I did receive confirmation from PayPal that it went through. My friend ordered the same reel on the same day I did and had received it. I'm still waiting, I finally give them a call to ask what had happened and they gave no excuse or explanation. Attempt To Keep Business Local Leaves Angler Skunked! Just called to check if The Longfin had a specific $250+ dollar item in stock (a fishing rod). Was told to call back in 4 hours because they were too busy to take the time to look. Was given a somewhat snarky attitude when I questioned the fact of "calling a store to check if an item is in stock" being a fairly typical thing. In four hours I will have already called another place and purchased the rod or just order online if no one else has it... I believe this is a bit of a customer service issue worth mentioning to the management. read more

This is the best place in Orange County for all your fishing gear. The crew is very friendly, helpful and takes their time to answer any questions you have. There is a reason why this place has been in business for so long. Especially, Eric and Cody helped me out alot. I can't count how many times I've been back to this place in the past month. I bought rods, many lures ,reel cover, even parts for my ancient reels! I can spend hours there with all the stuff they have. It's the Costco of fishing tackle. My son bought a Seeker Inshore Series Pro 809 from them back in December 2013. He took it in June 18th because 2 of the guide inserts were broken. They told him they would have the rod for 2 weeks! Yeah, that seems excessive. Between then and today, October 6, 2014, we called the Longfin repeatedly to ascertain the status of this very simple repair. Every time, there was some BS excuse as to why it was not done yet. Today, he finally went in to retrieve the rod, it was still not fixed, and the "customer service" person was extremely rude. I will never spend another dollar in this place. read more

Best place for fishing supplies in Orange. Prices are very decent, staff is plentiful and very helpful. Eric or Jim are always helping me out, but anyone will do. They are a real laid back neighborhood team, everyone knows everyone. Prices are almost almost Walmart cheap and if you are getting a set up of sorts, ask for a deal, you'll most likely get one. Amazing tackle shop and from now on a must visit when I'm in SoCal. This place has everything you need to catch fish, both freshwater and saltwater. I spent a couple of hours here just browsing everything they have. They carry all the big brands and a lot of smaller niche brands that are harder to come by. Some highlights - - Huge selection of CalStar, Phenix and Shimano rods. Their Shimano saltwater selection is exceptional, though I've seen stores with more freshwater variety. Their CalStar and Phenix inventory is unmatched. - Large selection of Seeker and Loomis rods as well. - They do custom rod building and they have what looked like a large selection of used custom saltwater rods on the floor. I wasn't looking for one so didn't ask for more details but many were personalized (i.e. "built by The Longfin for so-and-so") - Huge trout/crappie jig section. - Powerbait and Gulp coming out of their ears. - The biggest worm selection I've ever seen, anywhere. - The biggest "loose plastics" selection I've ever seen, especially Big Hammers in all sizes and colors. - An entire area/wall dedicated to saltwater irons and jigs. I'm not into that kind of fishing yet but if/when I do I know where to go. One other thing that stood out were the number of customers who walked in that the staff knew on a first name basis and greeted as soon as they walked in the door. Customer service here is great. Have been here a few separate occasions. Once to buy a freshwater rod n reel and another time to just get a fishing license. When i went looking for a new rod and reel i had no idea what to get but the salesman took the time to teach me a little about it and didnt get me to buy the most expensive thing there. At first I didn't see what the big deal was so I researched online and bought lures elsewhere for fishing and after not catching anything after my 7th trip I decided to come into this place for advice on what I should get(& how to fish it). The employee was helpful and answered all my questions and i bought lures based off of his recommendations. I went fishing that same day and caught my first bass! I have never even caught a trout before(believe me I have tried plenty of times w powerbait). I believed myself to be super unlucky in fresh water and was prepared to strictly fish salt but thanks to longfin I have newly found confidence and will keep working to become a better angler in both salt and freshwater. Went to Longfin to purchase a high end rod and reel. There were five employees hanging out by the register and couldn't get any help. When I did the clerk assumed I would be happy with a cheap set up. I've been fishing for years and can get that kind of gear anywhere, which is the reason I came to Longfin. When I asked questions about reel differences and why he brought me to the Shimano section the clerk was visibly irritated. He pulled out a pole and let it drop, again visibly irritated. I finally left and ordered from a corporation online, but had really wanted to support a local business. Advice to Longfin employee (you know who you are) don't assume a female doesn't want to know the features AND benefits of what she is buying or that the cheapest piece of crap is sufficient. Also, show some respect for the owners who assume you are doing what you get paid to do...that is to provide the customers with an excellent experience so they come back and keep the business that pays your paycheck in the green. read more

I've been to a lot of fishing shops in my life and I took the drive out here because I heard good things. Man it's like nordstroms combined with bass pro shops! The sales guys here aren't pushy, just really really helpful. Every single time I've been inside I've been impressed by their customer service. Don't buy gift certificates in the store. I had a $200 gift card given to me as a gift from my elderly mother that bought it in the shop. Unfortunately, I lost it two weeks later, promptly called the shop to tell them, and they told me that their policy was that if the in shop gift certificate is lost, it is gone. They claimed it is impossible for them to track in store gift card purchases. Find this hard to believe for accounting and auditing reasons alone. The Longfin also told me that if the lost gift card was bought on Longfin's website, it could still be redeemed, even if lost. I was going to buy a $1000 reel. Longfin's loss. Wont be doing business with Longfin. The whole point of going into a shop to buy gear is the customer service and relationship. Suggestion to the Longfin...remember this or you will eventually lose your business to the online marketplace. Your older, non-online customer base will fade away and you will be needing to attract customers such as myself that will buy online unless a shop provides them with great customer service that they cannot get online. read more

I went here with my son & nephew to purchase a few items and I wish I could say that I had a great experience, or even an ok one but we did not. The boys are interested in learning the ins & outs of fishing and I thought a good place to ask questions and purchase supplies would be The Longfin, especially after reading all the great reviews. Well, when we arrived, an older gentleman behind the counter made us feel like we were taking up his time by asking questions & he acted like he was being pout out having to help us locate an item. He would huff & puff as he went to get the item. He made us feel very uncomfortable and although we had many questions, we didn't see him as approachable to ask. This is one the largest tackle stores in OC, and they have everything you could ever want (and some stuff you want but would never use). I've been to West Marine, Anglers Center, Mako Matt's, and Amazon, and none of them had the LED Promar glow sticks I was looking for (or they were outrageously expensive for shipping.) I decided since I was in the area and had been in here once before, I'd give it a shot, and I'm happy I did. They not only had what I was looking for, it was cheaper than WM and Anglers Center, and Mako Matt's, and was in stock in store (imagine!). Got into talking with the guy at the counter who I assume was the owner, older white haired guy, very nice, and spent about 20 minutes talking only fishing. It's places like this that make me want to come back, great employees, great selection, and great prices, and none of the BS that chain stores like West put you through either. With all due back you guys need a new fishing reel maintenance guy. I've left a four star review in the past but I'm going to downgrade it not because of the front counter support staff but because of the fishing reel repair guy. I dropped off my reels back in August of last year I've yet to get them back. I've gone twice to check status I'm now just going to ask for their return so that I can take them elsewhere. Similar thing happened a couple of years ago. It's funny but no one in the shop knows the repair guy's contact information I don't even think they know his name. They don't know his schedule. They don't know when he will return customer reels. It is actually comical but at same time not consistent with the rest of the shop which is overall excellent. My advice to the shop owner is to get the new fishing reel repair guy. He's bringing down your customer service. My advice to consumers is don't drop off your reels for repair unless you don't need them for about six months. read more

I purchased a gift certificate for my nephew from The Longfin on December 16, 2013 for Christmas and he still has not received the certificate. He lives in Irvine so there shouldn't have been very much of a postal delay. The email I received from this shop, dated December 17, 2013, said it has been shipped. My brother has gone to the store numerous times over the last few weeks asking for information on where and when the gift certificate was sent as it has not been received. Now they are telling him that the gift certificate was emailed, which again if it has been, was not received. Bottom line, customer service is brutal. My brother is going back tomorrow to try again. At least I can dispute the charges but there is no disputing their bad customer service and a very disappointed nephew who did not receive his gift certificate for Christmas. read more

I've been shopping here for years I'm a bit OCD and judgmental. I guess I expect things a certian way"tackle nut". This place has always eceeded my expectations. No matter how busy they are still manage to get me set up with what I need. I'm not special in any means but they make me feel that way when I visit the shop.I live in Dana Point there are 2 tackle shops right down the street from my house. Both are great places but just don't have the volume of products. The staff at the Longfin know there stuff and are as nice as it gets.I just don't see why anyone would post anything but 5 stars here. Came in for a rod wrap. Was told it would take 2-3 weeks since wrapper was back logged. After 5 weeks I was told it was just getting started on by an employee who hasn't even been in actual contact with the wrapper. Good thing he has ESP. So no estimate on when it would be completed. His excuse was that it's a busy fishing season. Well that's also the reason why I would love to have my rod back as well and regardless, excuses are not helping the situation especially when you haven't even been in touch with the 1 person actually doing the work. I told him if it's not completed in 1 more week I would like to have my Rod back as that would have been a generous month and a half to get something completed that can be done within a day. Instead the employee says he's gonna just return my rod without even gettin in touch with the wrapper to see if it would actually be done. Excellent service right there. Yes, that's sarcasm if you didn't get it And yes I've had my rods wrapped with excellent quality and quick return at other places but figured I'd give Longfin a shot since the overall reviews are great. Just for the record I rarely write reviews unless I get exceptional service or products or the worst experience. Obviously this would be the latter. Everything in between is what any business should offer at the minimum assuming they wanna stay in business. I also try to avoid those fake one line positive reviews that are bought or made up. I wouldn't be surprised if they pay yelp to remove my review. read more

Huge store with great selections. Went there for their annual sale and picked up LC110 at 20% off. By far the largest selection of colors for LC110. They are really nice at the cashier when you are checking out, but a bit nonchalant when i was asking about certain high end reels. Maybe they thought i couldn't afford? Not sure... if i'm going to spend $600+ for a reel, i'm going to spend it where they provide better customer service. But overall i like this place because they have so much to choose from. read more

This place has it all with affordable prices! The staff here really knows their stuff and will point you in the right direction regardless of your skill level. this place is hands down the best freshwater tackle shop in the orange, la, and riverside counties. majority of my fishing is for trout and these guys have everything i need(phenix rods, shimano reels, trout king lures ,trout teasers, berkley powerbaits, and terminal tackle). they also have a great selection of lures and soft plastics for bass fishing as well. i've also had great and friendly customer service when going here, the guys at the counter have always been willing to help if i need an opinion about a product, daniel helped me pick out a phenix rod for the type of fishing that i do, which i really appreciate. i really like to shop here and will continue and encourage other anglers to support this shop. read more
