The people saw us outside; a fed Ex delivery came and they opened the door without any acknowledgment of us being there. I know the owners are good people, and the way they run their business (which they are fully entitled to do) is fair. I think there's a misunderstanding some people have, and it accounts for the negative reviews. When you ring the doorbell, and are asked at the door what you're there to shop for, you're not promising to purchase something, or to know *specifically* what you want to buy. For example, you may want to peruse their selection of tarot decks, but you don't need to cite which particular deck by name before you can take a look at what they have in stock. Are you looking for crystals? Candles? Rings? Incense? It's not that tricky. If you don't understand why they do business this way, just ask. They've always been friendly and loving people who charge fair prices and deserve to be respected as equals. It's as simple as that. read more

I drove 45 mins to visit this location. Rang the bell to enter. Was offered a basket by a man, which I declined (as I always do for new places) and asked repeatedly what I was looking for. I was definitely there to shop but was overwhelmed as there was a lot to see. We were immediately ushered out the door as we couldn't browse for items. I recently brought my 13 year old daughter up here to shop, as she has become interested in the different crystals and such that most metaphysical stores carry. We made a day trip up to St. Pete from Bradenton. After shopping around town and arriving at The Looking Glass, the gentleman behind the counter asked if we needed help or if we were "looking for anything particular?". I said thank you and "no, we were just browsing through the store". I thought he was joking when he informed us that "browsing season is in September". However he looked at me and told me he was serious and "you need to leave, you can't just come in and look around" that "it wasn't fair to the next guy who wants to shop as well." I told him we had only been to this store once before and we weren't sure what they had so we were not sure if we would purchase anything. We did make several purchases from every shop we visited before and after our stop here. He insisted we leave his store if we weren't going to buy anything, and that "looking around wasn't allowed." I'm not sure how they plan to keep business like this. Running potential customers off is definitely not the best route, I'm sure. I would not recommend spending your money here. There are far better stores with I'm sure better options, although we weren't allowed to browse, and much better customer service. This shop, located along St. Pete's cultural and artistic Central Avenue three blocks west of Haslam's Bookstore, is a rather small but very well supplied place to find scented candles, incense, semiprecious stones, books on natural medicine, aromatic oils and soaps as well as many spiritual Native American items. I found the people there to be very congenial and more than willing to special order items not in stock. Their prices are very reasonable. My friend bought 30 sticks of various incense (no scent being of a cheap composition) at $6 for 10. Everything in the store is clean (including the shelves and floor) and well kept. I have been looking for a good new age metaphysical store to replace mine back home since moving here 4 years ago. I happened to be in the area so I stopped in at the looking glass. Located on central across from dog bar is a tiny shop with mostly crystals and incense with a few trinkets thrown in. I was immediately greeted with a wonderful smile and energy. All of the people working the store were extremely nice and helpful. The prices were reasonable and in line with what I'm used to. I think it's a great place if you are looking for crystals but they don't seem to carry much else. The zen spiritual vibe was also missing for me but that's just an observation. Unfortunately I am still on the hunt to replace my old shop the Dancing Crane in Salt Lake City. However, any time I am in need of crystals I will be returning to the Looking Glass. Superrrr bad energy in here. I walked in and the women immediately approached me asked what I was there for. When I said that I was just looking around she told me I had to leave because they are only open for people who know exactly what they want. I visited this store for the first time today--WOW!! They have a great selection of crystals, art, incense, tarot & Oracle, and I have never seen more beautiful dream catchers.
