I will never step foot in the bar, again.. first and last time. A real enjoyable time turned into an embarrassing and infuriating time.
A group of 10 of us went out for drinks for my friend's 28th birthday. Unfortunately my friend and her family spent the morning laying her father to rest. So I'm sure you could understand why we went out.
All night everyone took turns buying drinks. I had decided to close my tab out because I didn't want to spend anymore and probably wouldn't have another. But we weren't leaving. I was waiting for the next game of pool. The one member of our group didn't have much money on him and felt bad that he was only able to leave a $3 tip- I had said no worries I'll cover you. I realized I didn't have enough cash on me for the tip so I decided to put $5 on my credit card and would leave the $20 cash when it was time to leave. About 10 minutes later, a friend handed me her card and asked to get some shots. Suddenly both bartenders are approaching me, "you realize you put $5 on a $90 check?" Puzzled. I said, "excuse me ?" She repeated it. And I looked at her and I said, "..uhm yes. I'm very aware. I have cash for you that I intended on leaving when we were done here." The bartenders continued to harass me. The one shook her head and said "yeah, well played." The other said "that doesn't make you look good." I said, "well for starters as a waitress it's completely unprofessional for you to do this. And as a waitress I would never tip that awful. Despite how awful the service has been." The blonde bartender then says real nasty, "As a waitress you would know not to tip $5 on $90." And rolled her eyes. I asked for a manager. She said that she was the Manager and good luck. Clearly no place to be managing. She said "here is your shots have a great night." Everyone in the bar was staring. Talk about embarrassing. I then even showed my friends the $20 bill in my wallet that I had for them.
But wait- there's more.
While still sitting and waiting for pool- my friend closed her tab. She signed her name, but left the tip and total blank. I said, "you should fix that because they could easily claim more." She said, "I have to go to the bathroom go ahead and do it." Again- she ALREADY signed her slip. So the burnette bartender rushes over and rips it out of my hand and says "I have you on camera I can press charges for forgery." I said "I did not forge anything, I didn't want greedy people like you to try and steal from her. It was already signed." My friend spoke up and said, "No I signed my own slip." The bartender put her hand up and walked away. Ohh yeah, there's still more..
I decided I wasn't waiting and I was so uncomfortable and embarrassed that I was leaving. I started giving everyone a hug good-bye because it's been so long since I've seen them. The bartender just walks over and yells to me, "Hunny you can see yourself right out that door." I said, "oh I'm gladly leaving and won't be back." She then proceeded to stand their waving goodbye. I then flipped her off. I've never been so humiliated in my life, nor have I ever been kicked out of a bar. All because they were to ignorant to wait and see if I was actually leaving more. The bartender at State Street (where we were first) had made $120 tip off all of us- can even call them and ask. My friends apologized for this disturbing behavior. But they all decided they were leaving too after seeing how I was being treated. Maybe I should have put the cash up with the slip, but I didn't think it mattered. I knew that I was leaving a $25 tip. Until all of that.
Not only was the service awful. We each waited over 10 minutes every time we wanted a drink. The bartenders were to concerned with their regulars, drinking alcohol behind the bar, and smoking that our business wasn't important to them. Last time I checked, as a waitress and a RAMP certified bartender, it is illegal to be drinking behind the bar while on the clock. The two girls bartending were extremely unprofessional and ignorant that they completely ruined a great night. Before all of this, we were truly enjoying our first time there. read more
