Backwoods is an oasis in a food desert. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing, the service is always friendly and the food is a welcome break from the tired old pizza and wings on every menu in NEPA. Their smoker is heavily featured so expect a unique barbecue approach to meats. Their seasonal menu always features a fun weekly special that makes good use of fresh ingredients sourced from local farms and vendors. Don't sleep on the decadent pies made in-house by their best server, Annie!

Nice location, and they have outdoor seating and live music on Saturdays, which is when we went. Our food came really late and the food was just mediocre.

Boneless fried chicken, ate every bite! The bacon syrup was too notch!

After a nice day of the hubby golfing and having the house to myself, I can meet him here for dinner. The appetizers are fantastic, I regret sharing the smoked wings and wish we ordered more! The fried pickles and deviled eggs will most likely always be ordered every time we go. The ran out of ribs so we did not get to try that but the fried chicken and steak were huge winners! The steak was so tender and fried chicken super crispy and flavorful for being boneless. Can't wait to come back and try the ribs.

    Hole in the wall. LITERALLY.

Great BBQ prices are fair, brisket is fantastic and so are the fries. Service was fast. Overall a good lunch! I'll be back.

Delicious! We went there on a prime rib night! We saved the left overs for steak and eggs the next day.

Great environment! The bad part is I waited 45 min for drinks 30 min for apps and an hour and 10 min for the actual dinner.

We just discovered this place a few visits ago, the best ribs and pot roast anywhere around, the ownership is present and staff are fantastic.

Perfectly prepared as usual and served by an appropriately attentive staff, AND as has been their practice imodified incredibly well to my food allergy needs. This evening I had the salmon and my wife had the lamb chop appetizer and the duck (which is not, in any way "wierd" as described above but, rather, delicious). Each of these dishes was prepared to perfection and beautifully presented. We can't wait to go back again.

When asked if I liked the tuna, I responded "no". The waitress offered to take it off the check, which I thought was the right thing to do. When I got home I saw two charges on my credit card. One was for the amount I signed for in the restaurant which included the removal of the tuna from the bill. HOWEVER, there was a second charge on my card for what suspiciously looked to be the amount of the tuna item that was supposedly removed from the bill. Still checking on it, but doesn't look to be quite what I agreed to. I certainly wouldn't recommend the tuna, and would caution you to double check your credit card statement after dining at his place. Others seemed to enjoy their food, but this is just my experience.

Dim lighting, big comfortable leather chairs, bookshelves lining the walls, a fully stocked bar, and historic photos throughout the space create a classic lodge vibe that feels timeless without being stuffy. It is cozy, polished, and incredibly relaxing. The staff is knowledgeable and clearly takes pride in what they serve. The craft cocktails are well made and thoughtful, and if you prefer beer, there are solid options there too. As a bourbon lover, I especially enjoyed their private barrel pick served neat, a real treat and easily a standout pour. This is a perfect pre-dinner or post-evening stop, we have done both, and it works beautifully either way. Dress is slightly casual but leans upscale, and while pricing is a bit higher than average, it feels completely worth it for the setting, quality, and experience. We sank into the chairs, talked story with friends, and lost track of time, which really says it all. If you are anywhere near Skytop Lodge, make sure this is on your list. Plan extra time, you will want to linger.

We split 3 appetizers, the grilled octopus, duck and one other, took some home, entrees were the gnocchi and flat iron steak, both were excellent, have seen reviews that the portions were small but we did not find that to be true also some reviews said you did not get complimentary bread at the table but again that was not true also. Yes it is expensive but if you want a fine dining experience that is unique in our area then this is the place to go.
