Finally a place that delivers what is promised! I was at John's Trikes and popped in to see what this place offered. I'm rarely tempted by bakeries because I am always disappointed, it seems. I liked this chaotic little place as soon as I walked in. It seems it's always been there, like since Lancaster was established. I studied everything in the cases and settled on a slice of carrot cake, with the bold claim to be the best in the country! Really a perfect set up for disappointment. I paid and tucked it in the ice chest for later. Well, it's later and my husband I easily made 2 servings from the single slice. Yes. Yes indeed, this is the real deal. If you weren't around in 1994, you may not remember that half of Lancaster's historic town square was obliterated in a tornado. The Bank was beautifully restored. The theater never really became operational, again, and there are empty lots with sidewalk, still to this day. But we love the spunky square and it's often unusual occupants. No Excuses!!! I have popped in for years to this bakery. Sometimes for the whole cake and often times, slices. The Italian Cream is always what I get. This slice had to be refrigerated well over a week. It was hard and looked old when I got it home. I should have looked inside before driving off but I never had to do that with them. Now the frosting was very fresh but at the very middle to the back of the slice, different story. Usually you do get them refrigerated and by the time you get home and let them get room temperature, they are so moist. I know covid has changed things for business but don't loose who you are to sell bad product. That's the end for me. You know better. read more

How have I been in Lancaster for 14 years and not been here. I have driven to Bishop Arts, Cedar Hill, and Waxahachie for my cupcake fix when this place has been here the entire time. They even gave me the option to choose buttercream or cream cheese for my strawberry cupcake. The kind workers were double icong. When I heard about this place I was ecstatic, Two Chocolate chip cookies with nothing but frosting in between? Hell yes! Sign me up! Alas, it was not to be... The cookie was there, I put up a photo of it (check it out). But it's just so damn...sugary! I know, I know you're thinking "What the hell did you expect? It's a cookie sandwich filled with icing." But seriously, the one they sold me may have been old because it was so damn hard it cut the roof of my mouth. It was also nasty because the damn thing didn't taste like anything but sugar. It didn't taste like a chocolate chip cookie it tasted like a rock solid block of sugar. It wasn't just the damn cookie sandwich, it was the lemon square, the chocolate cake and the coffee....oh god...the coffee. Maybe this place is old fashioned but when ever I can go to a bakery any where else, and I mean anywhere, from Boston to Rome. I can get halfway decent cup of coffee at a bakery. Or a Cappuccino, or a latte or at the very least some actual cream. If you run a bakery why the HELL wouldn't you have some damn cream for your customer's coffee? You cook with it, so why the hell wouldn't you have any real cream? Anyway...I know it's knit-picky but if I order a cup of coffee I don't want it to watch the lady making it whip out some instant coffee and pour it into hot water...and then have he stones to charge me three bucks for it. Screw it...my biggest problem with this place is the cleanliness. I know this place was hit by a tornado about ten or fifteen years ago, but it looks like it's never been repaired. It still has cracked walls and nasty yellowed wall paper. Sure I know that places like this have certain charm with a kind of busted up little look to it. But if you run a business that looks a little rough around the edges, you're supposed to be spending the money your saving not fixing your business, on better ingredients, making better food, and so on. Let me start off by letting everybody know that I am a health nut. I have all my meal timed out and eat each one at the same time every day, and have certain ways that i prepare each one so that it can compliment my workout schedule (Its ridiculous...I know). However, almost every time that i have a chance to consume a sweet treat, i will not budge unless it is from this place. Their cookies are made fresh throughout the day, and the cakes (I dont like cake) are out of this world. I have a sister who has beento some of the fanciest restaurants, parties, events, etc and had cakes from some of the most expensive bakeries in Dallas, but when her birthday comes around, anything other than lovin oven is unacceptable. Their cookies are buttery, and soft. I grew up in Lancaster, so i may be a little biased growing up with this place, but to me, a sweet treat just isnt worth screwing up my diet if it doesnt come from here. Love this little bakery tucked into a corner of the Lancaster square. My main thing here is the peanut butter cookie sandwich. It is a peanut butter cookie, peanut butter icing, and then topped with another peanut butter cookie. They call it death by peanut butter. They have some of, if not the best, butter cream icing here. What a disappointment !! I ordered a simple chocolate cake with white icing with a "generic" themed decorating: black block style lettering with the word cake. Odd I know but this was the main reason I chose Lovin Oven. I had seen and tasted their custom cakes before from a good friend of mine who had a wedding cake and her daughters first communion cake done here . They both look fab and tasted delicious so I was shocked when I got an extremely high priced subpar product . The lettering looked like a 3rd grader had decorated it and the cake itself was uneven which I didn't catch until I got it home . Mind you I live in Fort Worth Texas so I drive 32 miles there and back for this product . I was told on the phone when I ordered it that it was a specialty item . I thought that was a bit odd. It's a square cake not some odd shape ! But since it was the for the husband I paid the 42 dollars . When I was asked at the shop if they wanted to me to have them redo it or fix it I said no because I couldn't wait all day in Lancaster for that . After all it was "custom" . When I called after I got home to Fort Worth the owner was rude and kept saying I was offered a redo . He said he could have "cut out" a square cake from an already baked cake. I thought this was strange because I paid 42 dollars for custom work . He finally reluctantly gave me a partial refund. When we ate it that night we found out that the cake was dry. The only redeeming thing about this abomination of a cake was the icing . Buyer beware ! I have a chocolate cake recipe that isn't dry . My intention was to buy some cookies for the ladies that work at my credit union across the street, but after looking in the display case at the brownies, I knew I wasnt leaving this place with just cookies. I got some Chocolate brownies, and Cream Cheese Iced brownies. They are the best I have ever had from a bakery. I never got to sample the cookies, but after taking them to my credit union, the ladies there told me that they had them before and they are fantastic.
