Neliah, owner and esthetician, is great at what she does. Butterfly is home-based but it definitely doesn't seem like it. It's completely separated from the rest of the house and looks and feels like you're in a regular store front or stand alone spa. It's very warm and inviting just like every spa should be but sometimes aren't. When you first visit you are asked to fill out some paperwork and, based on the service you are receiving, whether or not you've had that particular service before. I met Neliah during a night out on the town and she told me that she owned a spa and that I should come to her for a facial. If I'm being honest I was thinking, "That's never going to happen," based on my previous and only experience with getting a facial a few years ago. After my first facial I was told that my face might be a little oily for a day or two as a result of the exfoliating and cleansing until my pores or PH or whatever was balanced. I said fine, no biggie. A little oily I could deal with however, my face was anything but. It looked as if somebody had taken a handful of Vaseline or Crisco, lathered it on my face and it began to melt off in the sun. Embarrassed much? Lets just say, uh yeah! Nevertheless, I would constantly hear so many of my friends and family say that facials were the next best thing since the size of cell phones shrank and no longer weigh 10 lbs. Although part of me was screaming, "You all can have your facials," another part said "Give it another try". I told Neliah about my first experience and she said that should've never happened. So, I reluctantly decided to give "the facial" one more try and man am I glad that I did! I don't think my face has felt this smooth or soft since birth. It is beautifully decorated and had great relaxing vibes. Phyllis, my massage therapist performed a very soothing and relaxing 80 minute deep tissue massage. I legit fell asleep 3 times and woke myself up with snores LOL. I didn't even realize I was falling asleep!!! This was such a treat. Everyone I encountered was super nice and helpful. I only had 2 complaints about my experience: one was the massage technique wasn't my favorite. There was a lot of long slow motions, and maybe that's what a deep tissue massage is, so no knock to my massage therapist (she was very firm just like I like), I was just hoping for more massaging than slow rubbing. But she was great! My other complaint was that the waiting area called "The Sanctuary" was so peaceful...until a man in only a rob walked in, shortly after his lady friend came in with only a robe on and sat on his lap and kissed him. It's a small room so they were probably like 3 feet away from me. It was pretty uncomfortable to say the least. It just seemed odd to have folks together like that. Naked people kissing in such close proximity just wasn't on my relaxation list for the day. Nonetheless, I left feeling super relaxed and passed out as soon as I got home. She was putting wax in the middle of my forehead and my eyebrows were not cleaned up at all and they looked completely different from one another. She waxed the end of my eyebrow off and then left the end on the other so they're not even the same length. Then they asked me as a group at the front if I wanted to gratuity and pretty much had no choice but to say yes when it was my first wax and the first one is free and it was horrible service.
