Fantasticly unexpected pub on the top floor of Paddington Station. We had just landed at Heathrow and took the Express into Paddington station. Hungry, tired, exhausted and laden with luggage, we found this hidden gem of a pub in the station. Plenty of seating, clean restrooms and easily enough space for our luggage we found a great table on the patio for our first pub lunch. Service was excellent, and my fish & chips was super hot and crispy. It was the perfect spot to sit down, with no rush and enjoy a pint before checking in to our accommodations. read more

This was our first meal we had in London after landing earlier in the afternoon. Since we stayed in a hotel right next to Paddington Station, we decided to eat here for dinner. This was an English Pub located within Paddington Station. The decor and ambiance was on point for a pub. The service was alright, but could've been faster. I ordered the tikka masala with tofu, and my wife ordered the fish cakes. The food was ok, but not really outstanding in any way. We likely wouldn't be back the next time since there's plenty of other food choices in and around the station. read more

We ate here twice on our trip, both times for breakfast. I'm a really big fan of the Eggs Royale. We enjoyed the fast service and convenient location and recommend it as a good place to rest or take a break after traveling. Casual ambiance, it's in a station after all! read more

The Mad Bishop and Bear is located on the 3rd floor of Paddington Station. In an effort to have a drink or snack in each neighborhood we visited this day, we decided to stop in. It looks like any other pub, but it's pretty spacious. I ordered a pink gin with a ginger beer and was served Tanqueray instead. I like Tanqueray just fine, but it wasn't what I had ordered. I also ordered a shot of Jüst Gin with dill as I was interested to try it. The bartender quickly glanced behind him and told me that they were out of it. After I paid and he was finishing up our drinks, I noticed it on the shelf behind him. I didn't want to press the issue, but good grief. They had also told my brother they were out of the first 2 scotches he tried to order. Were they, or did he just not feel like looking? Hard to say. Under the influence of being at Paddington station, we ordered the Marmalade bread and butter pudding as well. It was completely mediocre. I was expecting it to be orangey and sweet, but it really didn't have much flavor at all. Overall, this was a perfectly fine way to satisfy our quest, but it's certainly not worth a special trip. read more

All too often, a pub within a railway station conjures up one word - AVOID! The Mad Bishop & Bear, happily, bucks this trend. It's quite palatial yet, through clever design, you can find a cosy nook to enjoy a pint or catch up with a friend over a tasty meal. It's a Fuller's house so the beer is reliable (at the time of writing, the pub was in Camra's Good Beer Guide) and the food is cooked to order. Table service was friendly. If you're catching a train or waiting to meet someone travelling by train, you can check departures and arrivals on display screens within the pub. A big plus is that they have toilets too. This place was out of sight, so if you weren't looking for this place, you wouldn't be likely to find it. But if you do...cool little spot. The food was decent to really good. Some items were better than others. The...meat pie was very delicious and hearty. The fish n chips - wow - looks like nearly a whole fish, so also very hearty. They have a great beer selection, I believe their wine selection was decent, but then again, when beer is involved I tend not to notice the wine so much ;) The staff was friendly and accommodating as our party continued to grow over the evening. Thank you staff! So if you have a larger party planning to meet-up you can call and "reserve" a table/area because it can fill-up. Because this pace is in the Paddington (Rail) Station and next to the Hilton, it makes a great meeting point as well. read more

Good selection of different beers, in addition to the normal Fuller's there were a bunch of guest beers available. Noted too late their offer for "ale flight" sampler offer. For a station pub it's not overcrowded as such, probably the location somewhat off and above the main crowds help. Still very convenient for anybody traveling with train. Would I return? Our train was canceled, so we popped in for breakfast. The Vegetarian Full English is substantial and filling. The wilted spinach was bright and slightly salty. The vegetarian sausage and hash brown were crisp on the outside. It was nice to see a vegetarian option like this. Service was pleasant, friendly and fast on an early Saturday morning. read more

If you find yourself thirsty in Paddington and can't bring yourself to experience the squalor of the platform side Weatherspoons, then venture up the escalator to this boozer. Considering it's IN the station, it's actually pretty nice. There's large TVs that show the latest sporting action, lots of enticing, multicoloured fruit and quiz machines (a wonderful way to kill time when you're waiting to travel), and they serve food. They're open from flippin early and serve a decent fry up from 7.30am, with the full bar opening at 10.00am. Always full of people, i find station pubs are a great way to get chatting to people whilst your waiting to complete your journey. read more

Nice and cozy pub in Paddington. Good place to kill time while waiting for your train. We had a good one gap and stopped there for dinner. It was nice and quick service. They had alot of vegiterian and healthy options. I got the squash stuffed with leeks and cheese and it was delicious and light. My boyfriend got the bangers n mash and they were delicious as well. Had both dinner last night and breakfast this morning. Pub food... not great... not horrible. I'm not used to having sandwhiches with Brie in it, but it was quite good. Breakfast this morning was also pretty good. I'm here on work and so a full breakfast and some OJ ran me just over 5L. Eggs were good.... or maybe just the fact they were orange yolks instead of yellow was a good thing. other things were a bit on the salty side, but that might be just me being used to relatively bland food. read more

A gem hidden under the roof of Paddington station, The Mad Bishop & Bear has been one of my favorite London pubs in the past ten or so years. It's owned by Fuller's brewery, and they do make good ales. Take the escalators in the food/shop area at the station, you'll find this pub on the top floor next to an "Eat" food stall. It's a fairly spacious pub as well, which normally doesn't get too busy for comfort, and the dark wood decor is appealing. Of course they also carry the range of Fuller's bottled ales, which are generally even superior to their tapped beers (1845 Celebration Ale has always been my favourite, and not just among Fuller's beers). The staff, it must be said, isn't the most knowledgeable, but they're generally friendly and helpful. Two screens inside let you monitor the times of arriving and departing trains. The Mad Bishop & Bear is a nicer place than any of the street pubs in this area, most of which are now owned by Greene King. The perfect place for a pint (or three) upon arriving at or departing from the ever busy Paddington station. Food, admittedly, is only average. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place for dinner. Entered and there wasn't an empty seat at a table to be had. It's not that they had that many customers eating, they had the majority nursing empty glasses, presumably for the wifi or waiting for their train. There was even an elderly couple by the front door laid down on the booth seat having a great snooze. I asked about a empty small table that had a sign saying reserved, 17.45. It was 18.15, and I was told it wasn't available. Management needs to do a better job not making this restaurant a flop house. If someone is 30+ minutes late for a reservation and you have a paying customer at the ready, perhaps you should favour the customer on the scene. read more

Service: exceptionally poor 1) Five wait staff behind the bar, more interested in goofing around with each other than attending to customers (place was barely 1/4 full) 2) The young lady, who clearly saw that I was missing the "find your table number and tell us where to bring your food" program did nothing to facilitate my understanding of the quirky order process. Food: Fish & chips was awful. First, the chips (read: thick Red Robin style French fries were icy, stone cold (see above, not a person in sight to share this information with); fish - more skin (yes, it's a battered filet unskinned) More skin than fish. The batter was tasty with the actual fish, but half the plate was battered fish skin - not my idea of a meal. The mashed peas: those were good. Atmosphere was fine - dark wood and the place was clean. Run away! read more

Got off a red eye flight and reached Paddington on a Saturday morning. Great English breakfast, good coffee, quiet, not crowded, friendly staff. Much better than I expected at a train station! They made me 2 flat whites by mistake and gave me the second for free. read more

Decent pub and "hidden" at the top of the shopping area. Ended up stuck in Paddington a few times due to track delays. Stays quiet for the most part, good beer that's well looked after. Food is your standard pub grub so not much to exclaim or complain about. Good meeting point for a start or end of a day in London if you're coming via the station. read more

Had the steak and potato pie and a pint for lunch. Tasted pretty good but it was the first and only pie I've ever had. Relative to the other pubs nearby, it seems similarly priced so you're not paying a premium for being in the train station. You're also 3 floors up so you're away from the hustle and bustle of the station and it has the feel of a proper pub. Further inside they have some nice booths and sofas so it's fairly comfortable to just chill there and use their free wifi if you want more of a lounge feel. I sat there for about 4 hours and never once did they bug me. If you're planning on going there to watch sports, they don't get Sky so I think most of the Premier League games won't be showing. read more
