My husband and I stayed at the Maritime Hotel for a couple of nights this past weekend for my birthday. The hotel is - you guessed it - nautical themed (the building used to house the National Maritime Union of America), and it's beautiful, with every detail thought through. There are round windows (nods to the portholes on ships), wood paneling like the inside of a fancy cruise ship, and a beautiful lobby complete with a library of books and some beautiful art and decor. The rooms (at least ours) was quite small but had everything we needed (plenty of storage - I like to unpack my bag); outlets, storage, and reading lights built into the bedside units; and a comfortable bathroom. The only thing we didn't find was a coffeemaker, but they have coffee downstairs with a light continental breakfast included with your room each day. The customer service was really great - everyone was very friendly and helpful. Location? Also great. The hotel is just around the corner from Chelsea Market and down the block from the 14 St / 8 Av subway station. All in all, it was a nice place to stay and for a reasonable price (especially as this was an off-season visit)! I'd stay again.

Nautical themed boutique hotel in a prime location in Chelsea. The rooms are tiny but nicely furnished, the porthole shaped windows provide lots of natural light, and every staff member we encountered was lovely. Plus, you can't beat the price; even on Christmas week, rooms were only $300ish per night. Pros: very comfortable bed, heavy blackout curtains, ample storage. Room service is available, but with Chelsea Market and so many fantastic restaurants and coffee shops just steps away, you will likely not need it. Good water pressure and nice amenities in the bathroom. Cons: the hotel is located directly next to a popular nightclub, so expect quite a bit of noise in the evening, especially on weekends. I recommend requesting a higher floor for this reason. I would not describe this hotel as luxurious, but we did find it comfortable and hospitable. And personally, we loved the dated cruise ship vibe of the hallways and lobby. It felt cozy.

Beautiful beautiful hotel. As soon as we got out of our taxi, Michael greeted us and helped take our bags in. I was in awe as soon as I walked up the steps to the lobby, it is absolutely the most stunning lobby I've ever been to. It has a darker, sophisticated vibe. I think my 9 year old was the only kid here lol. There are lots of chairs, places to sit, tons of books, a fire place, it's just a really nice place to hang out. And who wants to hang out in a hotel lobby? Well you're definitely gonna wanna hang out in this one. We were a little early to check in but the front desk said they would text us when our room was ready. Lucky for us, it was ready a few hours before the normal check in time so we walked back to get settled in our room. Excellent location. Chelsea market is a 1 min walk away and the Starbucks reserve is another block down. VERY convenient to walk everywhere. Would definitely stay here again. Wonderful service (Michael is the absolute best, AWESOME customer service!) from the whole staff. Would definitely stay here again, rooms are so cute, amenities in the bathroom smell great, location can't be beat, and customer service is amazing!

I really liked this hotel. Expensive, but unique, upscale hotel in the meatpacking district. Close to Chelsea market, Chelsea Piers, Highline, numerous eateries and Hudson Yards. The history is quite fascinating and the porthole windows make this place distinctive (I was thrilled to discover that you can open the window!) The room was on the smaller side but most comfortable and cozy. The bathroom was stocked with any toiletry one may need, including toothpaste, Q- tips, soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Complimentary use of robes are available on a hook on bathroom door and the rain shower is divine. There is a stocked mini fridge and bar-all at a cost, but super convenient (there is a binder in the room which lists all the prices for drinks, snacks and other items). There is a restaurant on site and one right next door, both large and beautiful. Breakfast included was the standard continental fare, but the eating area was reminiscent of a 70's lounge and was really cool. The lobby/longing area has books to read and a fireplace to warm up by, with lots of comfortable seating and casual meeting areas. I would definitely recommend and would love to stay here again.

Super cute and unique hotel! I booked this hotel for my anniversary and it was absolutely perfect. The second you enter the building you are swept away to a haze of ocean blue, hardwood, and books. The decor of the lobby was stunning, and it made me want to stay and chat. The standard bedroom is a queen sized bed with a mini table, two chairs, a tv, a room length mirror and an attached bathroom with only a shower. The bedroom was very cool and different from other hotels. It was super clean, the sheets looked fresh, and had a great view. The decor was equally as stunning and unique as the lobby and the bathroom was incredibly nice. The Maritime Hotel definitely feels like a serene oasis from the city while being in the city. It's in a great location as it is a 2 min walk from Chelsea market, popular nightclubs/restaurants like Tao and Catch, and fairly close to the Piers. The service was great and all staff I encountered were super friendly. The only negatives I found were the paid breakfast wasn't super big and my particular room's bed wasn't the comfiest. In all I would definitely book again! My total room price came out to about $350 after tax for a sat night with breakfast included, which is about average price in NYC. I think the location, ambience, and utilities definitely made this room worth it.

Decent hotel close to Google HQ, Chelsea Market and 14th st. Lovely retrofitted from a former union hall. The Good: Great staff - especially the valets. Beautiful lobby with decent seating, library style. Rooms were a decent size, well appointed bath and cute niche shelving by the beds for phones, water etc. Dog friendly was a great plus. Five ***** for that. We didn't have one, but several folks were with their pups. The porthole windows opened. They had several working elevators to the rooms. The Bad: The mattresses were wayyy too soft. Like I sank in them. Likewise the pillow. The free breakfast was skimpy. We got there early because we had an early train back. No half & half. No juice. And grocery store bagels. As a displaced NYer I was offended. Better off going to Chelsea Market. The Ugly: There is no elevator from the street to the lobby. 16 steep but solid stairs. Oh they actually have a 1 person elevator that the valet runs until about 10p. We got back around 1030p, no one there so I schlepped up the stairs. Luckily I had a THC salve in my room to sooth my ancient knees. 1 - Chin ) Not particularly fluffy girl friendly. Chairs in the room both had arms. The restaurant only had lovely leather booths but anyone over a Buck-sixty wouldn't fit. This hotel at $400/night for someone with business at Google, or garment center is great. But anyone with mobility issues might look elsewhere.

Traveling during the holidays can be hectic, but the staff at the Park Hyatt made everything feel effortless. Every interaction -- from the front desk to housekeeping to the concierge -- was filled with genuine kindness, patience, and warmth. It was clear they weren't just doing their jobs; they truly cared about making our holiday special. The hotel itself is stunningly elegant yet incredibly comfortable. After long walks through Central Park, returning to our room felt like stepping into a peaceful retreat. The spaciousness, thoughtful details, and quiet luxury made it easy for our family to relax, laugh, and simply be together -- which is what the holidays are really about. We had our first breakfast in New York at the hotel's "the living room" which is located in the lobby. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with modern decor and stunning 30 foot ceilings. We arrived at 7am as the restaurant just opened and Kamil greeted us with a warm genuine smile. We've stayed at 5 different Park Hyatts in the past 5 years (Kyoto being the most recent) and no one has made us feel as special as Kamil. He has the unique gift of hospitality. He went out of his way to treat us like family and made us feel very special. All of his small gestures, friendly smiles, and thoughtful attention to detail, turned simple moments into special memories. During a season meant for connection and joy, the Park Hyatt delivered both in abundance. Spending Christmas in New York is always special, but spending it at the Park Hyatt New York elevated the experience beyond anything we could have imagined. Our days were spent with full hearts, lasting memories, and deep gratitude for a team that understands true hospitality. This is a place we will return to -- not just for the luxury, but for the people who made us feel so genuinely at home during the most meaningful time of year.

One thing to note: the hotel sits right above a sports bar, so it can get noisy when there's a game on. The gym was a low point. Prime location! Modern, spacious rooms (for the city)!…read more The elevators though.... Oy. I stayed at this hotel over the New Years holiday and was thrilled to be so close to Madison Square Garden and Times Square. As was expected, check in was a bit chaotic given the time of year. The ground floor entrance was PACKED with luggage on first arrival. After weaving our way through, we located the check-in desk on the 5th or 6th floor. Tons of people but adequate seating to wait for our room to be ready. An upper floor meant having to figure out their dreaded elevator system. It left something to be desired, to say the least. With only 3 elevators that service the whole of the hotel, and a 4th that goes who knows where, it was almost always a lengthy struggle to catch one. No buttons on the interior of the carriage, all elevators were called with a touchscreen device that seemingly tried to pack as many people as possible into one small space, leaving many behind that couldn't fit, before directing the passengers to another elevator to repeat the whole process over again. One day was so bad, it was actually preferable to walk up the stairs to the 14th floor. Woof. The room itself was wonderful. Spacious, with 2 beds. Very clean. Beautiful view of the city and the arena next door. Great way to catch the sun set. Walk in shower with both an overhead and handheld shower attachment. Great lighting. Shower had heavily frosted glass that faced the bedroom area so be prepared for your silhouette to be on full display for anyone you may be rooming with. Nice sized closet, safe, and mini fridge. Big flat screen television. Window shade worked very well to block out the light if you're hoping to sleep in late. Walls can be a bit thin, especially if you have a rowdy bunch of kids right next door as we did. Aside from the elevators, the perks far outweighed the usual peskier elements (e.g., noise, etc.) one encounters when staying away from home. Would stay here again, perhaps during a less busy time of year, if that's even possible.

The Library Hotel is every bit as charming as people say, but what really makes it special is the team.
