Delicious pizza and nice ambiance. The service was casual but authentic. I wouldn't get fancy on the cocktails here, stick to the basics.

My first visit. Walking in on a Thursday evening I was the first customer to arrive. The ambiance was cool, but I got a 5 minute lecture from the oner about how it is only cash, and why her pizzas and crusts are so special. Also, you have to go to the bar to order. I really hated that the water station uses plastic glasses, plastic cutlery, a plastic clamshell for a salad and paper plates for pizzas. We tried three different pizzas at $9 each and a small side salad for $12. Frankly I didn't like the pizzas. Reminded me of old school frozen french bread pizzas. I tried to customize a pizza and was told everything is premade in the morning, so no customizing. The salad was a very small green salad served with a lemon and mozzarella. Dinner felt like a expensive snack The cocktails we had were fine. The espresso martini was from a premade bottle and not even shaken. Unfortunately I won't be returning. read more

This is SUCH a breath of fresh air. This is so slept on, it is such a hidden gem. It feels like you've stepped into the 90's. Also...the 80's...and 70's. You can grab a drink, walk around the property and admire the art. The cherry on top is the stories you'll get. The service is immaculate, we felt so welcomed and at home. There is so much space to roam and have a private moment. The art is so full of story, the music is amazing and there's a different vibe in each space. This place is SO YUM YUM YUM !!! And it's open until 11pm !! Night owls and vampires, Mediterraneans, and cool people who like to go out late and eat late, this is your place !! We came to The Mark at 6:45 on Friday. We love their location-it is in the heart of downtown Olympia and is easy to walk to from anywhere. We ordered our cocktails and pizza at the bar and enjoyed sitting outside in their jasmine garden. Where we sat was cool and smelled heavenly. I ordered the "You Only Live Once" cocktail, and enjoyed it along with their Pizza peperoni and Pizza Patate. These two pizzas went together very well. They are Roman style pizzas, which as we learned mean that they come with a different style of dough then we might anticipate. We loved the flavors of our food and the people working there! We wish the serving size of the pizzas had been bigger but we loved our time here. We would love to come back. read more

The Mark is a quality place. The service and attention to detail is apparent and appreciated. The cobwebs have been shaken off and everything is sparkling clean and classy. Ben and Johnny run the drink and food bar area and do it very well. On this visit the breads were much better and consistent throughout (lighter and thinner). Rustic only goes so far as a reason for doughy thick breads. I like the aspect of the fresh toppings and that they let the natural flavors merge and speak for themselves, verse a lot of salt and spices. Some may find the breads rather bland, even if they are said to be spicy or heavier one to the other. A touch more bacon is always welcomed, it was enough to taste and appreciate on the bread and a nice combo with the other ingredients. More bacon please!!! The back patio!! Is gorgeous now, the Jasmine is in bloom and the soft scent wafts through the air. The other flowers are at their peak and very impressive. If you like a nice patio with flowers, now is the time to go to the Mark! Remember and note it is Cash Only!!! As they continue to improve and widen the food offerings, we will have to be patient. A vegetable cold soup ( cucumber gazpacho, tomato gazpacho) would be a great addition to the menu now though.... hint hint!! Thank you Lisa for opening again and enabling us to enjoy the classic and well appointed décor while relaxing in the garden area or inside at one of the booths and tables, with leopard print chairs. He was lovely to chat with, made amazing drinks and the pizzas he created were a delight! These are not your traditional pizza slices! This pizza recipe is from Rome, as we learned in talking with the owner, and created on sourdough bread, with drizzle and add ons! Please go try, you will not be disappointed! What is also great about the little gem of a place is that it is open until 11pm! My husband and I had reservations for 7pm, we arrived a couple of minutes late due to the rain and The Mark was not mad at all. They told us it happens and seated us right away. As we sat down they attended to us by bringing us water and asking if we wanted drinks. I ordered the Reckless Moment, which was kind of like a cacao and coffee based adult beverage- I want one again! My husband ordered the Old Fashioned which is by far one of the best ones he has ever had. The antipasto/dinner menu looked daunting at first although we asked questions and they were more than happy to answer them. For lack of knowing the title, it was a cheese, bread, and extra virgin olive oil antipasto! Some of the best cheese and olive oil (with a touch of salt, never thought of that but it was good). For dinner he ordered the Ragu and I ordered the Caccio! These dishes were straight out of Florence, but served in Washington. You honestly have to go there to experience because they were wonderful. We will definitely be going back because the service was amazing and we loved how passionate they were about working where they do. I will stop everyone from saying how expensive it is because almost everything is grown or raised at nearby farms and delivered straight to their door. No pesticides, no hormones, nothing unnecessary is going into the food and that is why the prices are higher. I'm more than happy to pay extra for food that is good for me, than paying for food that is filled with sodium and hormones. After going out for dinner here, even after we had our espresso and tiramisu (which was delish) we felt wonderful. We might have been full from all the food although we did not feel like poop after eating there. Finally got to come here on a date with my husband. Service was great. The food was amazing. Simple ingredients, super fresh, & full of flavor. The only small issue is that our entrees were a little overly salted. & This is coming from people who eat ramen & super salty foods all the time. Still was very delicious & will come back in the future. We ordered the Beef Rigatoni & their special that day which had the most flavorful chicken, olives, sun dried tomatoes, noodles similar to fettuccine, etc. Their mojito was very refreshing & their least expensive red wine is now my new favorite wine. One more thing... I was really impressed with their variety of prices in this upscale restaurant. If you were in the mood to go out to a nice restaurant but didn't want to spend too much money, you could do that here. They had pastas as low as $11. We had a wonderful dinner here last and will be back! One of our top restaurants in the area! The decor was upscale, the food amazing, drinks were well made, service very good (both professional and friendly), and ambiance perfect for our rare date night! There is no hostess, so walk up to the bartender for a seat. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated right away in a lovely booth (unlike the previous restaurant we went to which turned us away). The mojito my husband ordered was one of the best I've had: fresh, tart, with plenty of mint. My husband surprised me by ordering me the lychee cocktail which was delicious! Both cocktails were well made. We started with the mozzarella appetizer which was amazing! It took us back to Sorrento. The cheese was fresh and soft, we really loved the crisp and chewy bread, and it came with a lightly dressed salad. I don't know how we'll ever try their other appetizers when we already found one we love. I had the pasta norma (eggplant) and my husband had the steak. Our entrees were served with more bread and olive oil. Wow, for such a seemingly simple dish, my pasta norma was phenomenal. I couldn't stop eating it! The pasta was tender and went so well with the fresh tomato sauce and eggplant. My husband's medium rare steak was accurately cooked and came with crispy cubed potatoes. He loved both the steak and potatoes and also couldn't seem to stop eating his food! At the end, we were well fed and enjoyed the great service. Three cocktails, an appetizer, and two entrees cost us $100 which was well worth it because we left satisfied and wanting to return. You also can't beat the fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients. At another restaurant in town, we spend twice that amount and walk away not having had anything remarkable. I like another reviewer's suggestion to ask for both the dinner menu when seated because it did take our entrees extra time to come to the table, something we didn't have time for tonight because we had a babysitter at home. read more

My boyfriend took me here on Thursday evening. It is one of those places that I've seen a thousand times, but never had the chance to go before. I loved the interior. It is simple yet classy. It feels very intimate and is quiet enough to carry on a good conversation. This seems to be the perfect place to go to unwind and have some interesting drinks with a couple close friends, or for an intimate dinner date where you can take your time and not feel rushed. I liked how the servers/owner took time to talk to us and explain the food and some of the drinks to us. They were very friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. Because of their suggestion for me, I ended up ordering a lychee fruit cocktail (which was out of my box). It was really freakin delicious! We ordered a large salad with cheese balls to share. It was really very good, but a bit pricey for a salad (next time I'd skip the salad). For dinner I ordered the special (a pasta with slow roasted beef) and my boyfriend ordered an 8oz New York steak (they said they were sold out of their other steaks). To his delight, they ended up bringing him out a whopping 14oz steak cooked to heavenly perfection. Seriously! It was the best steak I think I've ever tried. Very flavorful and tender for fully grass-fed local beef. My pasta was delayed about 5 minutes behind the steak. I didn't mind at all though. She brought out fresh bread and an extra plate so I could enjoy a few bites of the steak. She even brought us some samples of wine while I waited (and I'm pretty sure she didn't charge us for the pasta at all). The pasta was to die for and well worth the wait. I'm telling you, it has been a long, long time since I've had that good of a food high. I left very pleased indeed. Go and give this place a try. This was where my family and I went after my graduation, and it was probably the best choice in Olympia for a little celebration like that. The ambience was very cool, dark and red inside. And like someone else said, they do have an awesome smoking patio, of which my family and I partook frequently. We started out with some drinks and the bread and cheese and fruit platters. The cocktails were fantastic. I had something called Dirty Sex, or something like that, something with sex, but not a sex on the beach. It was chocolatey and awesome, and i don't really like chocolatey cocktails. I had a mojito too, which was also awesome. Everyone loved their drinks. The bread was amazing. So crusty but soft inside. And the cheeses were great too. This was my first time eating manchego, and I fell in love with it. We could have just kept ordering bread, cheese and fruit all night. The food is why this is three stars and not four. The food was pretty, and they were good ideas, just poorly executed. Way bland. My family and I eat a lot of good Italian food, and we were dissapointed. My suggestion? Go for cocktails and snacks, not dinner. read more

This review is strictly about the cocktail program. A couple years ago, I viewed The Mark as an upscale spot in Olympia to grab an interesting cocktail. Perhaps my tastes have expanded or the personnel has changed or both because my last visit left me extremely disappointed. The Mark is dimly lit, carpeted, barely decorated, and the female servers wear a fake flower in their hair in the style of a flamenco dancer. In other words, things feel dated and this is reflected in the cocktail menu. Liquors that aren't top shelf have their brand listed as if that means something. There are no bitters, too many flavored vodkas, and the cocktails were wildly off balanced. My friend and I had the Ginger Zinger and it tasted like a lemon ginger cough drop. Another friend had the Monkey Trouble which was passed around and which we all agreed was reminiscent of cherry flavored cough syrup. The drink recipes just didn't have imagination and reminded me of the first cocktails you order when you turned 21, overly sweet and using too many mixers.
