Sat at the bar on Valentines evening around 4pm. The place was getting busy for the big rush. Luckily, we were able to get a bar seat w/o having reservations. We split the $190.00 special with choice of salad or onion soup, split 16 oz sliced sirloin and dessert for one. The sirloin came with a lobster bisque poutine and it was delicious. So was the peach cobbler dessert!!! The service was top notch. Drinks were amazing especially the "dirty politician" martini. The two bartenders were a little slow taking our food orders but they got our drinks really fast. Overall it a clean and inviting place. I would like to go there sometime for happy hour. "My wife and I visited 1889 Prime Steakhouse to celebrate the holidays. Making reservations a few days in advance was 'easy peasy,' and parking was a breeze thanks to their private lot. Upon arrival, the hostess greeted us with a smile and even offered to take our photo by the Christmas tree--a lovely touch! We started with the crab dip, a wedge salad, and a Smoky Old Fashioned. The crab dip was incredibly creamy, and the cocktail was excellent. While the food was delicious, the pacing was a bit rushed; our entrees arrived while we were still finishing our appetizers. However, the steaks were the absolute stars. Our 16oz ribeyes were cooked to a perfect medium with a beautiful crust and a juicy, tender center. Tried this place for Mother's Day. Unfortunately, I won't be going back. The three stars are for the great service, not the food. I had ordered the Salmon Benedict, seems simple enough. What I got was two English muffins halves with the smallest amount of salmon, two very overcooked eggs (should have been poached) and sauce. It's probably not normal for them but I went the whole meal without being helped once. Plus I was extremely disappointed with the amount of crab they put on my steak. You pay an extra $25 for it and it was so funny the little piece that was on there. Absolutley not worth paying an extra $25. That said, it was very good. Decided to explore Olympia and wanted to try a steakhouse. This came up in a search. The site provided great info and I made reservations. Located in a really nice area near the water and the State Capitol. Lots of parking nearby as well. We got there a bit early but were able to get seated. Offered bread service and it was very good. Nice warm bread with whipped butter. Everything came out great and service was wonderful. This place is a bit on the pricey side so keep that in mind. While the food and service was good, I did find it too pricey. I got the Surf and Turf. $50 for 3 large coconut shrimp and 4 slices of NY steak on top of a sweet potato puree and mango salsa seemed a bit high. Hubby's 16 ounce rib eye, again, while good, was a bit high at $62 just for the steak. Sides were extra, and quite a bit extra. Everything else was extra. The decor was very nice and modern. Lots of black which I usually do like. But it was way too dark in the restroom. Lack of lighting. I couldn't even see myself in the mirror. Overall it was a nice evening and experience. My husband and I came here for our anniversary (it was also his birthday, he just didn't want me to tell anyone). I had been previously for happy hour and enjoyed the food, so I thought we could come for dinner. We both love steak, and really looked forward to enjoying a higher end steak dinner. I had the filet mignon medium rare, and it was prepared correctly. He ordered the 45 day aged ribeye, medium rare, and when it came out the first cut was almost completely brown. After cutting deeper into the steak, it was definitely over cooked and more like a medium. The waiter came over and noticed him inspecting the steak, agreeing it looked over cooked. My husband, who I have been with for 6 years and never complains about anything, politely asked for the steak to be returned. Shortly after, the manager came over and said he put a new order in. The new steak came out and this was basically raw (see photo). The waiter came over again and said it appeared to be under cooked. He did offer to take it back to be seared, but at this point my husband didn't want to be a bother and also just wanted to eat his food. For the restaurant being specifically a steakhouse and for a $100 steak, I would just expect that the kitchen would know how to appropriately prepare each cut of beef. I have been to dive bars that could regulate the temperature better than this kitchen. All of the staff from the hostess, waiter, and manager were so kind and accommodating. They handled the situation well. We also really enjoyed the crab dip, lobster tail, and crème brûlée. However, if we could do it over we would have probably chosen a different place to dine. read more

Was visiting Olympia for work and was told this was the best food in town so I had to give it a try. Upon entering the restaurant it didn't feel like a steak house but more like an event space or bar. Seats were hard wooden chairs and the partitions were temporary curtain type dividers that you would see at a campaign event. Suffice as to say I wasn't too impressed with the decor. That being said the food was amazing and as advertised. I ordered a rib eye medium rare with bone marrow butter. The steak was really well seasoned, juicy, and tasty. It was a bit salty but in a good way. I would say that coming from LA this rib eye was better than some of the top steak houses in my home town like Mastros and ocean 48. The meat quality was not as good as the steak was a little thin but the flavors made up for it in spades. The garlic mash potato's were flavorful. The creamy spinach was a bit watery but also good. I finish every steak house with a crème brûlée and this one was divine. One of the best I've had. Crème was smooth without chunks and the layer of burnt sugar on top was perfect. I do like my crème warm but the room temperature still did the job. Service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and brought me a basket of bread and butter and refilled it again. I was very happy with his service. Overall I was pleasantly surprised. One of the best steaks I've had. I would highly recommend it to everyone! read more

Went back for a second visit, just to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke, and I can now FULLY confirm that this place is indeed "Top Tier". We sat at the bar this time, a large party was in the event room, and service was still awesome. The bartender Cameron was very nice and a skilled alchemist with the drinks []. We got the surf & truf, pork chop, loaded baked potato, scallops appetizer (again ) and mixed veggies. All the food was still standing ovation () level delicious. The Butterfinger Chocolate torte (current flavor rotation) was the stuff of legend. Seriously, the flavor combo and richness are A-1, so save room. The GM Elijah was awesome as well having us pair it with red wine that elevated the dish even more. It will make you stop and say "Hell yeah!". Tristian was our server, he was absolutely incredible as was the head waiter (didn't catch his name). Tristian had excellent recommendations on the dishes and drink pairings and very friendly overall. Our food was great as well, I had the elk which was outstanding and my wife had the dry aged rib eye again and it was a night and day difference from our initial experience. We will definitely be back again and a thank you to the owner Drew for reaching out to have us return for another visit to dine. Great food, staff, and delicious food. The first time coming to this restaurant. I was very impressed with how new and clean it was. The wait staff were kind and helpful. We sat at the bar first. Great happy hour deals 4:00pm-5:30pm. Reservation needs to be made to guarantee a table. The restaurant was fulfilling up quickly, and with such great food, I can understand why. We couldn't finish all the food, and the leftovers were packed by the wait staff. Location has a beautiful view of the Capital Lake and Capitol building. Was not the experience our group expected. The hostess and waiter were the best part of our experience. The hostess was very friendly and walked us to our table. The waiter was knowledgeable and very attentive to our table of six. After that it all fell apart if you claim to be a steakhouse they have a chef that can cook a steak. I had already been warned by friends that they consistently have under cooked steaks so, to compensate I ordered a medium well filet - with steak butter recommended by the waiter because the smoked butter was a little strong for the filet. Received a rare almost blue as the center was still cool temp with smoked butter. I properly removed the steak from my plate and placed on a small plate very evident that I needed attention. The floor manager who delivered our food. He made eye contact with me and appeared to see the steak sitting by itself and walk by to attend to the 4 top of gentleman that he spent most of the evening tending to. The waiter came back so I let him know steak was cold and way undercooked and had the wrong butter. He took back to the kitchen - waited sometime - most of our table of 6 was almost done with their dinner when the steak returned this time medium rare re-fired with the wrong butter still on it. So some improvement but not the medium I was really hoping for and still the smoke butter was over powering even with the steak butter placed after retire. Wife ordered the lobster tail - very bland with no flavor - seemed to be steamed vs grilled or broiled. Friend's steak also undercooked but he didn't want to send back his lobster tail also no flavor. Desserts - cheesecake and bread pudding. Fantastic- bourbon peach crisp - Not so much, all crisp no peaches - one bowl had 2 slices the other had 3 slices of canned peach The waiter at the end came back to see how my steak was and comped my desert - the manager never came. Unfortunately, was looking to have a great steak place in Olympia - 1889 falls way short it's not worth the price for WA beef from select farms if your kitchen team has not been trained how to cook a steak to perfection. Wow, what an amazing experience!! My husband and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary today and booked a table here for dinner. I've been wanting to eat here since they opened. Everything from the wait staff, to the food, to the ambiance was top notch!! It's definitely a special occasion type of place for us and well worth the splurge. Our server, Tristan, was very attentive and super friendly. He comped our affogato dessert as an anniversary gift. We ordered the burrata caprese as an appetizer and it was the most incredible interpretation I've ever tasted. I ordered a NY strip steak and my husband ordered the special of the day, which was fresh grilled halibut with scallops and bok choy. He thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll take his word for it since I'm not a seafood eater. We also ordered the wild mushroom risotto as a side to share...delicious! To top off our meal, we shared an affogato dessert. A perfect ending to a perfect meal. This was, by far, one of the best meals we've eaten at a restaurant. Kudos to the chefs, servers, and anyone else involved. We were gazing into each other's eyes and talking the whole time without our phones, so I didn't even take any photos. I've posted some snips of their online menu for reference. We ate here last night and were thoroughly disappointed. When we arrived there were numerous open tables but they wanted to seat us at the one by the bathroom doors. We asked to sit elsewhere and they acted like it was putting them out. We placed our order and it took over 40 minutes for our meal to arrive. Two had the steak salad and both commented on how tough the meat was. The third had wedge salad with a very dried out chicken breast. Probably the most outrageous part of our order was the three scallops for $32. Really! All of their prices seemed way too high for the quality and amount of food and the slow kitchen service. Just what the town needed. This is a great higher-end restaurant in Olympia with a sophisticated flair, great staff and delicious food. I've been working my way through the menu and absolutely love the French Onion Soup, Truffle Mac and Cheese, Filet Oscar Style (w/ crab meat) and all of the salads. The scallop appetizer in INCREDIBLE and unique - and the kitchen really knows how to cook a scallop. I disagree with another user about the aesthetics. It's a minimalist theme but classy, flat dark colors. The flair comes in the big picture windows, outdoor seating and nice, private tables and rooms. The bar is also a joy to sit at - comfortable, warm and inviting. Speaking of booze, there's no corkage fee if you're feeling like you need to bring your own bottle the but the bar is stocked with incredible wine and the most legit selection of spirits I've seen in town. The parking lot is for the restaurant. We were seated promptly with a reservation. The esthetics are almost non-existent. There's a few high top seating areas and a few normal tables. Seating outside as well, but extremely loud due to traffic. The walls are painted black and the ceilings are a burnt orange color. Not many decorations. Feels very... empty. The glass windows are open so the environment is not dark at all. The sides were better than steak, in my opinion. The bone marrow butter really saved the steak. Risotto and truffle mac and cheese were outstanding. The French onion soup tasted weird to me... like they used a bouillon cube as the base. The bread basket is like mini baguettes. Extremely hard but soft on the inside. Unfortunately, when our food came out, I took photos of it and if you zoom into my meal, you'll see a hair was in my mashed potatoes and I had already taken 3 bites. It was sent back and management fired up a new one. I skipped lunch to eat here so I was extremely hungry. They offered half off my order. In total, 4 people with drinks came out to about $600 with tip. Pricey, but not worth the experience in my opinion. We visited 1889 Steakhouse during a busy night with a local event happening, so the service was slower than expected. Even so, the experience had plenty of highlights that made the evening memorable. I was torn between the Flank Steak Salad and the bone-in pork chop, which looked incredible as it passed by our table. I'll probably be dreaming about that pork chop for a while. In the end, I went with the Flank Steak Salad, ordered blue, and it turned out to be the best decision I could have made. According to my husband, it was the best dish at the table. It was tender, flavorful, beautifully presented, and also the best value. By ordering cautiously, I ended up with the standout meal of the night for significantly less than the larger entrées. My husband ordered a rare steak. While it was good, the texture was a little grainy and not quite up to expectations for the $55 price point. It seemed like the heat might have been slightly off. He's thinking of ordering it Chicago style next time for a better sear. My father-in-law's steak, cooked on the well-done side, came out with a perfect crust and full, rich flavor. It was surprisingly the most well-executed of the steaks. We also shared the crab dip, which was light, creamy, and refreshingly clean-tasting without even a hint of fishiness. The in-house bread was fresh, crispy, and completely addictive. We ordered mashed potatoes on the side, and they were outstanding -- smooth, buttery, and infused with a deep roasted garlic flavor that I'm guessing came from garlic mash blended into the butter. That's the only way you get that kind of beautiful flavor spread throughout. One misstep that left a mark on the evening was the way my father-in-law's whisky was served. Rather than using a dropper, the waitress added water using a spritz from the tap behind the counter. It felt out of place for a steakhouse and unfortunately took away from the experience of enjoying a good pour. Despite a few service quirks, 1889 Steakhouse offers a cozy atmosphere, thoughtful dishes, and strong potential. If you order with care, like I did, you might just end up with the best dish at the table. And next time, I'm definitely circling back for that bone-in pork chop. read more
