Sat at the bar on Valentines evening around 4pm. The place was getting busy for the big rush. Luckily, we were able to get a bar seat w/o having reservations. We split the $190.00 special with choice of salad or onion soup, split 16 oz sliced sirloin and dessert for one. The sirloin came with a lobster bisque poutine and it was delicious. So was the peach cobbler dessert!!! The service was top notch. Drinks were amazing especially the "dirty politician" martini. The two bartenders were a little slow taking our food orders but they got our drinks really fast. Overall it a clean and inviting place. I would like to go there sometime for happy hour. They do need a big brass railing for your feet to rest on while sitting at the bar besides having to rest your feet on the bottom rung of the bars seats.

"My wife and I visited 1889 Prime Steakhouse to celebrate the holidays. Making reservations a few days in advance was 'easy peasy,' and parking was a breeze thanks to their private lot. Upon arrival, the hostess greeted us with a smile and even offered to take our photo by the Christmas tree--a lovely touch! We started with the crab dip, a wedge salad, and a Smoky Old Fashioned. The crab dip was incredibly creamy, and the cocktail was excellent. While the food was delicious, the pacing was a bit rushed; our entrees arrived while we were still finishing our appetizers. However, the steaks were the absolute stars. Our 16oz ribeyes were cooked to a perfect medium with a beautiful crust and a juicy, tender center. While our table behind the bar felt a little cramped, the stunning view of the Capitol building and the elegant atmosphere made up for it. We will definitely be back!"

Fantastic food, steakhouse prices but that's to be expected. We had the aged ribeye and the regular ribeye. Aged was much better but both delicious, the truffle Mac and mashed were also great. Crème brûlée was the better ones we've had in the pnw, and our server Mica was phenomenal. We will be back!

Very classy restaurant and indeed pricey but what made it worthwhile was the customer service. Renee took great care of us and made the evening special. We took the advantage and celebrated our birthdays. Colleen who worked at the bar recommended this place to us. The food selection was fantastic and delicious. Thank you again, Renee and Colleen.

Quality of the dry aged ribeye is at par with some of the best steak houses around. The ambiance and decor reminded me of The Capitol Grill in Washington D.C.! Lovely view of the state's capitol building beautiful lake laid out like a bejeweled blanket, absolutely stunning! Renee our waitstaff was friendly, knowledgeable about everything we asked her! Clean bathrooms were very much appreciated! We will definitely be back!

One of the finest dining experiences in Olympia. Sophisticated ambiance with outstanding service. Best steak I've had in years. À la carte sides are enough to share for two. This place isn't cheap though. Fairly priced compared to the competition, yet it comes with quality portions. Oh, and the cocktails are delicious,

My husband and I came here for our anniversary (it was also his birthday, he just didn't want me to tell anyone). I had been previously for happy hour and enjoyed the food, so I thought we could come for dinner. We both love steak, and really looked forward to enjoying a higher end steak dinner. I had the filet mignon medium rare, and it was prepared correctly. He ordered the 45 day aged ribeye, medium rare, and when it came out the first cut was almost completely brown. After cutting deeper into the steak, it was definitely over cooked and more like a medium. The waiter came over and noticed him inspecting the steak, agreeing it looked over cooked. My husband, who I have been with for 6 years and never complains about anything, politely asked for the steak to be returned. Shortly after, the manager came over and said he put a new order in. The new steak came out and this was basically raw (see photo). The waiter came over again and said it appeared to be under cooked. He did offer to take it back to be seared, but at this point my husband didn't want to be a bother and also just wanted to eat his food. For the restaurant being specifically a steakhouse and for a $100 steak, I would just expect that the kitchen would know how to appropriately prepare each cut of beef. I have been to dive bars that could regulate the temperature better than this kitchen. All of the staff from the hostess, waiter, and manager were so kind and accommodating. They handled the situation well. We also really enjoyed the crab dip, lobster tail, and crème brûlée. However, if we could do it over we would have probably chosen a different place to dine.

Decided to explore Olympia and wanted to try a steakhouse. This came up in a search. The site provided great info and I made reservations. Located in a really nice area near the water and the State Capitol. Lots of parking nearby as well. We got there a bit early but were able to get seated. Offered bread service and it was very good. Nice warm bread with whipped butter. Everything came out great and service was wonderful. This place is a bit on the pricey side so keep that in mind. While the food and service was good, I did find it too pricey. I got the Surf and Turf. $50 for 3 large coconut shrimp and 4 slices of NY steak on top of a sweet potato puree and mango salsa seemed a bit high. Hubby's 16 ounce rib eye, again, while good, was a bit high at $62 just for the steak. Sides were extra, and quite a bit extra. Everything else was extra. The decor was very nice and modern. Lots of black which I usually do like. But it was way too dark in the restroom. Lack of lighting. I couldn't even see myself in the mirror. Overall it was a nice evening and experience. I may return, but would order something else on the menu.

Was visiting Olympia for work and was told this was the best food in town so I had to give it a try. Upon entering the restaurant it didn't feel like a steak house but more like an event space or bar. Seats were hard wooden chairs and the partitions were temporary curtain type dividers that you would see at a campaign event. Suffice as to say I wasn't too impressed with the decor. That being said the food was amazing and as advertised. I ordered a rib eye medium rare with bone marrow butter. The steak was really well seasoned, juicy, and tasty. It was a bit salty but in a good way. I would say that coming from LA this rib eye was better than some of the top steak houses in my home town like Mastros and ocean 48. The meat quality was not as good as the steak was a little thin but the flavors made up for it in spades. The garlic mash potato's were flavorful. The creamy spinach was a bit watery but also good. I finish every steak house with a crème brûlée and this one was divine. One of the best I've had. Crème was smooth without chunks and the layer of burnt sugar on top was perfect. I do like my crème warm but the room temperature still did the job. Service was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and brought me a basket of bread and butter and refilled it again. I was very happy with his service. Overall I was pleasantly surprised. One of the best steaks I've had. I would highly recommend it to everyone!

Special bread pudding dessert. So yummy. With the two of us we couldn't eat it all.

Came in for our anniversary. Always in search of the perfect ribeye. I must say this is the best one in thurston county! Service was excellent. Food portions were good. For steak house, I thought the prices were good. Certainly have been to more expensive places that weren't as good. Definitely would come gain.

The bet dish you'll ever eat that contains scallops. You cannot change my mind don't even try.

Next best was the bread - it was perfectly soft inside with a crispy crust. Between how oily the dish was and my nose running from the increased spice as I continued eating, I wouldn't return for this dish. The eggs weren't noticeable in appearance or taste- I had to search for them. The "creamy grits" were creamy, but the black pepper taste was STRONG. Definitely ordered the side for the "creamy" factor, hoping when the server said harissa in the eggs would have a mild spice, that the grits would calm my mouth. The amount of pepper made this unsuccessful. But if you like black pepper a lot then you'll enjoy them. My son enjoyed the beignet's. The server was also the host and he was kind. It was easy to get his attention when needed. I didn't see anyone with a grin on their face after taking bites of their food. I looked around quite a bit out of curiosity. So for ambiance, kind and prompt service, and the possibilities of the menu I gave it 4 stars. We only tried the few things I mentioned. I did also appreciate the bottle of water ready on every table. Note that there is no kids menu and it's mostly table seating. So maybe try on your own or with other adults, and leave the kids at home?

Seems like the bad reviews are from haters. People who came in with a chip on their shoulders. I didn't. Why? I have been around the Goth and Dark Metal community for years. I know them. While they may look scary and mean to most "normies". They are actually some of the nicest and open minded people you could ever know. In all I felt welcomed here even though we were not dressed for the part. The staff here were very welcoming and friendly. The service was prompt and excellent. The drinks, especially the nonalcoholic drinks were good. We came in on a movie night. They were showing an art film whose name I can't remember. The film was very artsy and deeply interesting. I and my wife really enjoyed it. The BIGGEST kudos to the Cryptatropa Bar is actually showing an independent art film. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Growing up there were lots of theaters that showed art films. Then after the 90's they all went away. Leaving only a few mega theaters who they all show the same movies. This place is a RARE GEM for doing this. Independent film makers don't really have outlets to show their films anymore. THANK YOU!!!

We added some chopped jalapeños for extra heat, but honestly, it was fantastic even on its own.
