Never got a text saying our table was ready. When we got back from our 1 lap around the block, there were multiple tables available, still no text saying our table was ready. There were 2 seats available at the bar, which in any other restaurant is FCFS, so we took a seat. The hostess came up to us and said that the bar was already requested by 2 other guest who were waiting and asked us to move to a table. We moved to a table where it took us over 10 min to get our drink order in. Drinks did not come right out, took another 10 min to get a sweet tea. It was 2pm and they were not slammed busy during this time. Will prob take our business elsewhere next time. Did not feel welcomed by any means. This was not our first time here. Liberty Public House prides itself on being a lesbian-owned restaurant in Richmond, which is very evident in the decor- rainbows everywhere, which I love! It's a very popular restaurant, so today, when we entered, while we were greeted right away, there was a 30 minute wait. The time actually went by relatively fast, and by the time we were seated, large cups of ice water were already there at our table, as well as a carafe to refill them. There's no physical menus, instead you scan a QR code which brings you to their menu. They have lots of drink options, including several specialty cocktails, beers, and ciders. Our waiter was super sweet and attentive, and the food came out relatively quickly. For my drink, I ordered a local cider from a Virginia ciderie, as well as the It's A Wrap, which has cheddar, ranch, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and your choice of protein (I got tofu). I also got a side of the Mac and cheese, which I could tell was made in house. Super creamy and flavorful with a hint of spice. My wrap was also insanely good! I'm impressed by the amount of vegetarian options here. Any burger can be made both gluten free or vegan, and the choices of protein make it more accessible for everyone who comes in. We came for a filling Sunday brunch to fuel an adventure-packed day, and this spot did not disappoint! To note: This is a popular location, so the wait time around noon was 45 mins to an hr. We ordered the giant breakfast burrito w/ cheesy grits and the vegan 'chicken' sandwich w/ shoelace fries. Our server was very friendly, and we received our food quickly. The serving sizes are large. The breakfast burrito was packed to the brim, very savory, flavorful, and filling. Half a burrito is already a full meal, but I was committed and finished 90% of it before tapping out. There were some condiments on the tables, but the server brought out hot sauce upon request. The cheesy grits were good, a bit decadent to pair with the already dense burrito. The vegan chicken sandwich threw us for a loop. It's not your traditional veggie burger or impossible meat. The texture and look really closely resembles actual chicken, so much so we had to call the server over to confirm they didn't accidentally bring us a chicken sandwich. As an LPH regular, I'm starting to give up on this place. Every time, and I mean every time we try to come here there's an issue. The last two attempts we've had to just leave due to an egregious wait time or them just deciding to close for a private party without any notice. I don't understand what the owners issue with hiring more employees and filling out all tables instead of leaving the restaurant half full and making customers wait 30+ minutes is. Also, the wait time is ALWAYS a lie. If they tell you "Oh it'll be 10-15 minutes", you can count on 30 minutes. I don't really feel valued as someone who isn't a tourist and always tips well. read more

Vibes - this laid back restaurant was surprisingly busy on a Thursday night at 5:45. We had to wait 5 minutes to get added to the wait list (this process was a bit unclear as you have to wait for a host but the host took a while to come). Then we waited 15 minutes for a table. Thankfully there was plenty of space to wait inside. There are steps to get down into the restaurant so unsure how wheelchair friendly it is. Service - we had a lovely waitress. She was friendly, upbeat and helpful. She gave great recommendations and checked on us the perfect amount. Food - the food was solid! Good enough to come back but not life changing. Here's what we got. Chicken and waffles: this was our least favorite. The waffles were a little gooey in the center and tasted slightly under cooked. The chicken was good but not super flavorful. Avocado Smash Burrito: delicious, flavorful and solid portion for the price. Last call burger: SO GOOD! I'm no stranger to a burger with egg on it, but this is my first time also having a hash brown. That was a delicious touch! I do think the burger itself was a bit meh but as a whole it was delicious. It could benefit from a sauce. Our waitress kindly brought me their sriracha aioli which my husband enjoyed but I thought it had a weird taste. It was also spicier than I'm used to for a sriracha based sauce. Next time I'll try the garlic aioli. Side Mac and cheese: this was a $2 up charge but the portion was HUGE so worth the price. It was a bit rich for my taste but still delicious. My only problem is that this tastes nothing like "mac and cheese". It was good but it was a cheesy pasta. Liberty Public House in Richmond is an old theater that was converted into a quaint resturant with a diverse yet concise menu; furthermore, they're a solid spot that serves up good food and even better values, which is something I really appreciate in today's climate. I started with the blue crab croquettes, which were crispy and flavorful. They had just a bit too much Old Bay for my taste, but they were still really tasty overall. I also had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and a side of their house made hot sauce. That hot sauce was incredible; bold, spicy, and clearly made in house with love. I'd come back just for that. (My friend bought a container just to take home it was THAT good!) The service was friendly and welcoming throughout my visit. What stood out most was the atmosphere. It's a place that feels intentionally inclusive and supportive. They're openly pro-LGBTQ, anti-ICE, and clearly committed to being a space where everyone feels safe and respected. In a time when a lot of businesses choose to stay neutral, it's refreshing to see one take a stand. Good food and good vibes here. While it took a surprisingly long time to get a seat (it is a smallish space), it was worth the wait because it was a good experience. There was a good menu of typical pub fare choices with a lot of choices for various dietary needs. There are plenty of vegan and gluten free options on the menu. I had a vegan patty added to a burger, and it was made of actual vegetables. Unlike some, it didn't fall apart too much, and it was pretty good. There are a ton of side choices, but can you really go wrong with waffle sweet potato fries? The cocktail menu is robust and has some interesting choices. I did a "closeted cosmo" off the Pride menu, and it was quite unique in that it was made with raspberry puree that still included the seeds. I could have done without the seeds in my cocktail for sure, but I did dig the rainbow sugar rim on top. There's no parking directly out front, you have to find street parking on the side which there was on the next block. We were looking for new brunch spots in Richmond and LPH had a big menu with many vegetarian options, as well as that classic brunch feel and brunch dishes. We tried the Biscuits and Gravy (vegetarian) with a hash brown cake, as well as the Green Monster (an everything bagel sandwich with avocado, pesto, scrambled eggs, and tomato). Both were really good! The hash brown cake was actually a really nice side, crispy on the outside. The biscuits and gravy were also really satisfying and I was especially happy they were able to make this dish with vegetarian gravy. The second time we brought friends, they shared chicken dishes which they said were pretty good. Met a couple of friends here for dinner. It's got a great location, on-street parking. They've got a fantastic menu that will accommodate probably everyone's food issues. They had a great selection of beers. We ordered friend pickles for the table - the serving size was really good (so good that we couldn't eat them all). I cannot remember what my dining partners ordered, but I got the Cuban sandwich. Man, that was good. Don't tell my Cuban friends, but I may have liked their bread selection better than the traditional Cuban bread. The sandwich was SOOOOO good! My only complaint is there is zero (or near zero) sound baffling. I cannot imagine how noisy it gets in there. I guess they thought the wooden furniture would be enough to squelch the sound? this restaurant has the exact vibe you want in a pub. it is super spacious but inviting. the staff was super friendly and helpful. the food was hit or miss. the pretzel sticks are a must! they had the perfect consistency - a crispy crust and super soft center. i really liked the mustard it came with and although i liked the idea of the gouda cheese, it was not my personal favorite. i tried a new menu item that was the teriyaki chicken wrap and it had potential but just wasn't that great. all of the veggies were super crunchy and tasty. the sauce was pretty good as well, but the chicken was dry. the wrap all together just didn't go well for some reason. the taco platter was similar as well. the individual ingredients were pretty good but didn't do super well together in addition to the dry chicken. they have shoestring fries which are my favorite type of fry and i enjoyed dipping them into the mustard dip! read more

Very glad they are open on Monday nights! A group of 4 of us walked around the charming neighborhood and wanted to get a quick bite. This was the closest place to us. The place is very casual with a dive bar vibe. That being side I was very impressed by the menu. They have all day breakfast, main dishes and burgers full of southern flare. 2 pages full! I think I have to come back to try more dishes. I ordered shrimp and grits in order to compare with other places. Also ordered Brussels sprouts because somehow it only tastes so good from a restaurant! The dishes are full of flavor. For my taste though, they were a bit much - quite oily and a bit salty. I was surprised how much bacon was in my order but I guess like they say - anything tastes better with bacon. One of my favorite places for brunch! They have amazing chicken and waffles that I get almost every time; when I don't get the chicken and waffles I get that good ole chicken biscuit! I went out to LPH last weekend for the first time with family. The restaurant is really cute inside. It is steps down to the tables but they do have a wheelchair lift. Their happy hour is 3-6 daily which is amazing! We ordered the pimento and pickles as an appetizer and not only was it delicious but also came out very quickly. Our meals were amazing as well. I have the chili with grits and it was really tasty - as well as vegetarian. The grits were cheesy, the cornbread was sweet and the chili had a great flavor. Yes, it's easier to order (from suppliers) and cook chicken portions than whole or chicken parts with the bones in. That said, the chicken breading was okay but it wasn't finger licking good or comparable to the expectations considering that chicken is featured in so many dishes on the menu. The potatoes were cool and close to tasteless, and the gravy was congealed flour. Maybe it was me? I had imagined a pile of chicken, maybe a thigh, leg, and wing, or part of a breast, with kinda creamy, buttery, mashed potatoes...and whatever was supposed to be in it. A last minute decision that turned out to be a good one. I almost was lost because it looks like a theatre from the outside. You do have to go down steps to get inside. We came here on Saturday afternoon after a dragon boat race that wasn't too far from there. The inside is a little dim but comfortable. With it being underground sort of, you won't have much phone service but they do have wifi. Additionally, they don't give out printed menus, you'll have to scan the QR code. They have all day brunch, and a pretty extensive menu. Everyone in our group got something different and enjoyed their food. They have a lot of menu items with grits, however, if you don't like stone grits they are not the grits for you! I had the fried pickles, crab croquettes, and the Buffalo chicken wrap and they were all good with great portions. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and got us any additional items we requested.
