I can here on a recommendation from a very good friend of mine and I must say, this establishment is absolute trash. I've been to many ranges across the west coast and this one is, by far, the absolute worst. If I could assign a zero rating, I most certainly would. I have visited this establishment on four occasions in total, as I was thinking maybe I could build rapport with someone and buy a firearm. Nope. Each visit was the same in them giving me the same level of service. And the service was absolute trash. The one service that was rendered was by their gun smith. I had night sights installed on my brand new S&W. He put a huge gash in the cerakote while installing the front site of my pistol. After mentioning it, he didn't even apologize. He just sarcastically shrugged his shoulders and still proceeded to charge me $50 dollars for the service. Unbelievable. I have since found the Sportsman's Warehouse off Meridian. I bought my last 4 handguns there, amongst several other items. I found their firearms are much cheaper than The Marksman's prices. Don't believe me? Check for yourself. And if they don't have a specific firearm in stock, they will ship from another one of their locations across the US at no cost to you. Additionally, Sportsman's Warehouse gives a military discount of 5% less the retail price of the the firearm, which is huge in my opinion. I am NOT going back to The Marksman and I recommend that you stay away from this disaster of an establishment. read more

Last week we went on Tuesday to shoot (retired mil), the counter person stated that we had to have four of us on one lane, while I like my two friends I do not want to have to wait 45 min to one hour to shoot. My wife and my self usually shoot in 15 minutes. Both on one lane. They then put one person on the next lane and the third lane was open. When I asked why we could not use that lane, was told someone else was going to use that lane, older gentleman standing outside the building. So four retired mil on one lane, single on next and open on last. When I asked why my wife and I could not have the last lane, young lady at the counter stated, very nastily, "what you want use to give you the whole range?" No but by that time, we would have already been done shooting. Not standing behind the line for the next hour. read more

Great place with nice people, very cheap, it was like 35$ but you have to but the membership if you've never been before which was 15$ so it'll be like 20$ when I come back I guess. You can't shoot fmj 5.56. You'll have to buy the special rounds that break apart to shoot 5.56. Other than that it's a great place with a very big gun selection. Oh and also the safety briefing is like 5 mins if you already know how to shoot and aren't an idiot. read more

When spending hundreds/thousands of $, I would expect the demeanor of the sales people to be pleasant/ helpful/ friendly...not the case at this shop. It was recommend to me that I rent a couple of guns before i decided what type to buy. This range would not rent me a gun since i was a newbie with no license and did not have a "babysitter" with me. I was alone. I'm 72yo, a Vietnam Vet from 1967 and have never been arrested, never had a DWI. Etc. What do have to do, buy it out of a car trunk at midnight? WTF? read more

Poor customer service. I went in to shop for a new 9mm. My experience left much to be desired. I was treated very poorly by the guy behind the counter; he appeared very bored and bothered that I was asking questions. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned a week later and was helped by a different guy. I received the same response, acting like I was bothering him. I'm an officer with a local fire department; they give a discount to those in service. When I asked about the discount weapons he, rightfully, asked for my ID but then just pointed to the case and said there they are, no help what so ever. This disregard for customer service is a management problem! These employees are not happy and it shows. I went to another local gun shop and was treated like a friend. Worst customer service I've had the displeasure of receiving!!! Talked to "Jamie" on the phone and asked how much 9mm practice rounds cost. Was given the price and then she asked if I had a membership because they were "members only" and I couldn't shoot without one. I explained to her that I'm a new gun owner and haven't fired live rounds (that's why I want to come to the range). She was rude as hell and said "maybe you need to take one of our "handgun basic" classes because we can't just let you on our range when you don't know what you're doing..." when I asked what other options were available, she told me I had to bring a sponsor with firearms coaching experience! Father and I came here to shoot after I got back from deployment. My father used to go here regularly I wasn't as familiar with the place. When we walked in we had to take a gun safety class, no problem. Class costed money...membership cost money... then we had to buy ammo. then there was required hearing and eye protection...ran almost a 100 bucks to shoot off a few magazines between the both of us. I didn't mind paying the little money. but, what really made me annoyed was lack of customer service and the arrogance of the workers. I'm not the one to brag but i know enough about guns, please dont belittle me and make me sound like Its my first time shooting. Some of their tone of voice and there smart ass side comments was not called for. This is a business and as such should be more like one if they expect my money again. I've been coming here for a very long time, and I've purchased 4 firearms here. I've also used the smith once for a minor job. Lets start with the range side: Cons: -Antiquated (nowhere to set gear with small, slick tables) -No heat -poor ventilation (especially bad when the range is busy) -Ammo is EXPENSIVE; don't buy it there Pros: -Employees leave you alone( they don't hover, but will assist/intervene in the event of need or an unsafe condition. -They don't go through your range bag prior to entering the range -Free Military and a ladies day -rental selection is good Shop side: Cons: -Staff is a little on the higher end of uptight, though they probably deal with more than their fair share of dumbasses. -Prices, prices, prices...(did I mention prices?) Look, I like to support my local gun stores but you simply will pay more here. The real problem is that these guys DO NOT price match. I find this a deal breaker. Their accessories are significantly more expensive. Pros: -selection is good, probably the best in the area -employees are as friendly as one can expect in a gun store Bottom line: Lakewood shooting range is much newer and nicer (though a few dollars more) and they inspect your bags prior to entering their facility. Aside from that, it is better in every way. I don't need my ass kissed, but refusing to price match in this day and age of internet supremacy is suicide. Being a 1st timer when it comes to gun ranges, my review may not be on par to those who are more experienced but on the other hand you are getting a truly honest review from a virgin, lol'.... I have never been to a gun range in my adult life, so I did some shopping around per say and made a call and visit to another range that gave me pretty disrespectful service over the phone that I did not want to even stop in and give them a chance. The employee that answered the phone made a lot of opinionated comments when I explained my situation and why I wanted to learn how to shoot, none the less I didn't go there. You can find my review to see who they are..... Walking in the first time with my Hubby, we were greeted by a friendly Lady, yes biased but I loved that a women worked there and was so helpful and friendly. We went on a Monday and it was a buy one get one and they also provided a military discount. They require you to take a safety class which really is a rules and regulations that cost $10 but gives you the basics of what you need to know. Now to the fun part..... our initial visit was just me learning how to use our own gun and I will say I was pretty scared and petrified at first. Hearing the gunshots so close with even the ear protection given and I had ear plugs in as well is a little too close for my comfort but I got use to it eventually. Let's put it this way, we were there for almost 2 hours!!!! Upon leaving the same lady asked how it went, made sure it was FUN:) and answered questions that I had etc..... We came back a couple days later and the man that helped us was just as great as the first person!!! I will be back!!!!! read more

Good selection, normal pricing. Range is nice, maybe a little cramped, but its in the city. Rental prices are very reasonable. I was hoping for a better selection of rentals, but it was reasonable. Now on to the rant: The staff did not register as rude to me, merely matter-of-fact. Of course I'm military, and have been around firearms for a long time. I have experience and thick skin. I could see how some people might feel intimidated. However... These guys rent guns and have a close quarter indoor range. Its okay to have fun when you are shooting, but when it comes down to it, firearms are a deadly serious tool. They warrant a serious attitude. This goes doubly so, when you rent pistols and any mouth breather can come in off the street and use them. If you aren't serious about shooting, this place probably isn't the place for you. Along with that if you aren't serious about shooting, firearms probably aren't the thing for you. You shouldn't complain about the first time safety brief. That keeps above mention mouth breather from putting a bullet in your back out of ignorance/negligence. The other (outdoor) range in the area has a "one round per second" rule. While I prefer outdoor ranges, this is not conducive to practicing anything self defense related. Also the outdoor pistol range is significantly shorter, which is also not okay for defense related shooting. Bottom line: I took my son here. We shot our guns and we shot some of theirs. We had fun and didn't spend an obscene amount of money. The people that run the counter also run the range. Their job is to make sure you are safe and don't leave with extra holes. Their job is not to be your friend or make you feel good. Yes, my son and I will both be going again and are looking forward to it. read more

I didn't read the reviews below prior to going in for a purchase. I have to echo the comments below. Certainly not a welcoming atmosphere. Rushed customer service. I feel like if I hadn't known the exact pistol that I wanted to buy, it would have been quite a hardship to spend time looking at more. I also had the same experience with the "point the gun at the ground" comment. I was trying to get a feel for the sights and grip, but I was told three times to aim the gun down. I fully understand gun safety, and this is the first time I truly felt like I was being chastised by daddy for something that is perfectly acceptable practice in other sales venues. Interesting irony that if they are so concerned about safety, the pistol wasn't handed to me with slide open. When you think about it, I should get better service here than a jewelry store--spending just as much money. Won't be back in for next purchase. read more

Very well stocked gun store. Staff is very polite and professional. We utilized the range as well, a decent pistol range. It is what it is, nothing fancy, just a good place to shoot pistols to 50 feet. Good police and military program, I purchased a firearm from them 2 years ago and I was satisfied with the transaction. If you are shopping around and don't want to wait 30-45 minutes at cabelas to check out a firearm, this is a good option. Competitive prices as well. read more

Received a call later I didn't clear background and went to get money back. I was confused on the background too. Got there to find out I don't get me money back. I ordered a Springfield XDME 10mm. Communication was great! Great group to work with, shipping reasonable , transaction went smoothly. Up to that point i would give 5 Stars!! Received the unit and a couple of clip sleeves were missing the plastic packaging which the sleeves came in was in the box torn open. I have written and ask for the replacement of the sleeves. If you're doing a transfer, go ANYWHERE but here. The very young girl who helped me was nice, but really not knowledgeable enough to be telling people how the background process works evidently. She submitted my background check (this being my first transfer at this store) and was told it was "researching". Having purchased firearms for 30+ years, my parts transfers generally go through quickly. The young girl (Kayla?) told me it came back with a "delay". I FULLY UNDERSTAND the store has no control over this. I said I would wait as they generally go through quickly, she assured me "it wouldn't proceed that day" and the gun would have to stay overnight. Their ridiculous transfer fee of $35 jumps to $50 for some reason if the gun stays overnight. Evidently this is a way to milk you for another $15 but it's only $15 so whatever. She was NICE and said she wouldn't charge me the extra. So, I start driving back to Olympia, get halfway home and guess what, "Kayla" calls and tells me I got a "proceed". So, I turn around and go BACK to the marksmen. The store is now empty aside from employees. The guy behind the counter couldn't have been more awkward and slow. I get being thorough, but it took longer for him to REVIEW the paperwork then it did for me to fill it out! Then he had to call this other guy over to check out what he just checked. Then the first guy wants to chat about where I was born and talk about his military/college experience in that town, as if I really cared. I was considering buying a Commander 1911 they had in the case, I quickly decided against it. I honestly couldn't imagine dealing with these people anymore, on any level. Oh yeah, while I was there a guy was buying a rifle. I heard the employee tell him "Make sure you don't come in to pick this up before the 20th, even if WE CALL YOU, sometimes our employees tell people to come pick up their guns not realizing they're semi auto rifles". Screw this place, I will never set foot in here again. My friends and I had a nice day at the range planned. After paying my money and receiving my lane number, I took a minute to wait for my friends to get their lane. An employee came up while I was waiting and asked to see my lane number card, which he took out of my hand with out saying why. After my friends got their lane, I asked for my lane card back. They said they only had one lane left, and it was going to my friends. When I asked what happened to the lane that I had paid for, they said they gave it to the people who came in behind me They said I would have to wait in the store while my friends got to go on the range without me, or all four of us could cram into one lane. They actually stole my lane card without telling me why, after I had paid for it, and gave it to people who they admitted came in after me. They were so condescending and rude, I just demanded my money back (which took about 20 minutes of course), said goodbye to my friends and left. This is absolutely unacceptable BAD Customer service. Completely ruined what was supposed to be a fun evening with good friends. I was thinking of getting a membership there like my friend but, as I said, I will never return to this dump. I live not too far from this place so it is very convenient for me to go shooting here. The best part is on Mondays it is buy one get one free range shooting. Two people can shoot on one lane for about $12, not too bad. The worse thing about this place is their customer service. They spend way too much time shooting the breeze with customers while ignoring customers who want to make a purchase. For example; I was here a while ago and needed to purchase a few things. There were about 6 people walking around/shopping and 2 employees tending to the shoppers and 1 employee taking care of the range stuff. You could see the frustration at the shoppers looking to get help but unable to since the 2 guys were helping someone else. Upon further inspection both of the guys were just telling random stories, I understand how guys get when there is guns around and testosterone is boiling, but lets be professional. There were a couple guys walking around with stuff in their hands ready to buy but no one to check them out, one guys put the stuff on the counter and left, and the other had to interrupt an employee. As soon as he was finished he went back to talking to this guy about this one gun he owned when he was young.. blah blah.. I had questions and no one could help, so I figured if I want my question answered I needed to do something. So I actually just called them from my cell phone.. I know sounds retarded but it worked. The guy answered right away, he answered my question I then asked if I could buy it and he told me to come on in, I said I have been in waiting for 20 minutes for help... So, he laughed and apologized and I met him at the counter. This wasn't the first experience I have had that was like this, not as dramatic but just as annoying. I love shooting here and I will probably be pretty exclusive, however, I will probably not purchase stuff here, the prices are not that good, especially on the safes. Overall, it is a very nice range, they make you take a one time class on safety which is comforting to know that the people around me have had some sort of safety training. The range guys are great, professional and efficient. This place would be a four and maybe even a five star if they could have better customer service for their store. read more

This place can be a bit hard to find. It is kinda tucked behind the doctors office and the burrito place. They have an extensive array of firearms on sale and a perfect indoor range. I dropped by with some friends. I was able to take their safety class very quickly and painlessly. They were also really good to rent me a few of their firearms. I am looking at purchasing one and this gives me a good chance to see what feel right for my hand. read more

I shoot here often, and have bought a gun from them as well. I do have to agree that the staff has a pretty cold and unfriendly service. But honestly when you see how many weirdos they deal with on a everyday basis that have no business shooting a gun, can you really blame them? Took my first gun safety class at this location and the instructors were wonderful. They took the time to explain the basics of using a firearm, as well as, how to safely discharge one. They then took us onto the range to shoot the provided weapons. I really enjoyed how each instructor took the time to make sure we understood what we were learning. I feel like a responsible gun owner because of the instruction I received from the instructors. read more

The people were very nice when I went into the store and when I registered ($150) my wife for a woman's introduction to weapons class, however, when, unfortunately, my wife became ill on the day of the class they would not transfer her registration to another date. First time ever in an indoor gun range. Staff was very nice and comical. My friend that accompanied me has never shot a weapon before and they made it a point to help her relax, ease her mind and get comfortable. While all the reps were helpful, Oscar was exceptional. Like I said, I've never been to an indoor range and unfamiliar with the prices of other shops, however I felt it was reasonable and affordable. Really poor customer service. I don't expect gun store folks to be warm and fuzzy, but at least treat me like a person. We were treated very condescendingly by Steve and the older woman. Had an issue with a gun we rented and they acted like we were stupid. Steve laughed at me when I grabbed the wrong item by mistake. Really awful if you're learning or have any questions. They'll act like you're inconveniencing them by wanting help or additional information. But that's fine, I'll just take my money elsewhere. The facility is like any other indoor gun range. The equipment is in good working order. Not very clean. The difference that sets good places apart from bad is the staff and they are definitely lacking in that department. Helpful and courteous are 2 words that the staff have never heard of. If I could give this shop a minus 50 I would. After a long wait we were treated extremely rude. The worst managed place I have ever seen. The extremely Rude lady we encountered first asked us for our credentials.. I would think a greeting of some sort would be appropriate if your job is a salesman/women. After checking id we asked to see a weapon. She handed the gun to my husband with the slide back and the mag still in it. After taking the weapon, pointing it down and in a safe direction and trying to get a feel for the grip she is telling him to point it to the ground over and over.. i really don't know how He can remove the mag and get a feel for the grip pointed directly to the ground.. We have purchased several guns here before and we have experienced bad service every time but made to choice to overlook because we believe in supporting local businesses, if I could go back in time I would have taken my business somewhere else. This staff has some major management problems. I highly suggest that if you have special rules that most other gun stores don't have, the customer should be informed beforehand instead of learning these specials rules in the midst of a situation. read more

Veterans Beware!! Website says they offer Range Discount for Service Disabled Veterans with a valid VA ID card. When I presented my card they not only told me "no discount was allowed" they acted like real jerks about it. The person helping me went to the manager and he laughs shakes his head and acts like I'm trying to rob the store and says no. I told him they might want to change the website since it does say the discount is there. He does not believe me but does check the website and confirms that I am right. But still "no discount". And we are talking about only like $1.20 in savings! I have never understood why an office worker who sticks around for 20 years gets a discount over a person who is disabled as a result of service and cannot continue service. A solid business would have given me the discount and then got the website changed...not this place, they don't honor our service or even their own advertising! But whatever....the place is dry, and a safe place to shoot....but I'll never be back. read more

I had been here once before when a buddy was buying a gun, I don't remember much about the visit, but considering the reviews here, I had high hopes. I'm on the hunt for a small gun I can use while out hiking, biking and other outdoor activities. I also wanted something that would be cheap to shoot When I walked in, I looked around for a few minutes and then a guy came up to help me out. I told him exactly what I needed, what I had in mind from some quick research online and to help me out. He pointed out three guns, all VERY different and said, this is the cheapest, this is the cheapest to shoot and this is the Ruger. I asked him for some opinions on why I would want go with this gun over that gun and he was pretty vague seeing he liked the Ruger better. I then asked about the process of buying a gun and he laid it out quickly and waited for my next move. My next move was to get out and come here to search for other gun shops to visit. I wasn't happy with his dis-interest in helping me and being active in finding a gun that would work for what I wanted to do. He never asked about hand size or how I wanted to carry the gun. Took the Introduction to Handguns course with wife and son today. Was well run and lead by three very experienced instructors. Neither my son nor wife had previously shot a gun. By the time we moved into the range, they were both comfortable handling guns and shot a 45, 9mm, 38 and 22. The course is NRA certified and I would highly recommend this to any first time gun owner to take with family members. Thanks for a very positive experience. read more

First off don't use them as a ffl if u order a gun offline. They will make you wait a few days after it comes in for no reason. Also everything they sell in there is overpriced. Sportsmans warehouse in puyallup has more of a selection and way better prices. Also tacoma Sportsmans club in puyallup is cheaper to shoot. The customer service here is also terrible. They are rude and unfriendly. I won't be going back to this place. read more

I am not sure how many calls they get from competitors each day for price quote, but as potential customer it's very frustrating not able to get price over the phone (gun I was looking for wasn't even on their website). They want all potential customers to drive to their location for pricing because they are not willing to spend extra 30 seconds on the phone. To me, it's 25 minute drive. I think it's poor service and business practice. Sportsman's Warehouse is 3 minutes closer, so will be giving them a visit. Been to Marksman once and noticed their ammo were severely over priced. I have to assume their guns are too. Between my brother and I, we have budget of $2500 to prep for hunting trip, guess they are not getting any part of it. read more
