This rooftop restaurant is absolutely stunning. The ambiance is elegant, upscale, and beautifully designed, with incredible views that make it a perfect spot for a date night or special occasion. The atmosphere alone makes a strong first impression and definitely gives a luxury experience. That said, the food was just okay considering the price point and overall presentation of the restaurant. Nothing was bad, but nothing particularly stood out either. Unfortunately, the service was the disappointing part of the experience. It felt inattentive at times and didn't quite match the level of hospitality you would expect from such a beautiful venue. Overall, it's worth visiting for the atmosphere and scenery, but I do hope the food and service improve to fully match the setting. I'm giving a 4 only because of the location and ambiance otherwise it would be 3.5. read more

We were attending the SA Book Fair and came here for rooftop cocktails. The hotel was cool and had a minimalist slash decadent slash 50 shades of grey vibe. We were not hotel guests, just there strictly for rooftop cocktails. We were treated very nice and we were not rushed. This restaurant/bar has an amazing skyline view of San Antonio. Definitely don't miss out on exploring the different nooks and crannies. They also have a small lounge area well decorated and with a beautiful half moon. There is a bit of nudity in the bar side, just a heads up if you bring some children to the restaurant portion. The pita and hummus were apparently really good. The halloumi was a nice texture, though the grilled portions were a bit too grilled and made it taste more burnt that overpowered the original flavor of the halloumi. The lamb chop was tender and quite nice. Simple flavors for the main entrees but all were good and the tzatziki was a good mix of tart and tangy. I think normal price for these items is a bit too much. Though they did seem to have a happy hour that would've been better to hit up. The following morning we had breakfast here and it was equally just okay. I had the apple and speck, which was alright. A little plain and the apples were a bit too sweet in my opinion. The pancakes were good but basic and the egg breakfast was alright. The view is definitely cool also in the morning. read more

We went on a Sunday , not a lot of people but as told their were large parties around. We waited on xtra bread for our hummus for 25 mins . By that time we advised to cancel our plates we ordered because if we could not get extra bread for our appetizer in 25 mins I was not going to wait around for our plates. We only had two people in our party, if there were a big party there , wouldn't you think it would be quicker to put the food out for 2 instead of a larger party? And yes we were the only minorities there at that time. I don't know if that played a part but just makes me wonder.My wife was excited to go there but after that experience, we went to good old reliable chilis. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I were staying at the hotel and decided to check Moon's Daughter for breakfast and happy hour. The happy hour deals are pertty good with good drink and food specials. For dishes, we got the za'atar half chicken, naan and butter, grilled halloumi, falafel and hummus. All were just alright in my opinon. The halloumi was very chewy and squeaky. The falafel was a bit dry and the naan and butter was of a different texture than what I normally think a naan is. Views and service are great here! THE FINAL BAMBOO: For a variety of food and drinks, we spent around $100 for everything. A bit on the pricier side and I'd recommend coming for happy hour and getting a glimpse of the great rooftop views. read more

Was staying at The Thompson via FHR so booked a dinner for the evening. Since it was Valentine's weekend, they only offered the Prix fixed menu for $115 pp. We had no issue with that, but the food didn't quite live up to the expectation. This dinner was probably the most disappointing while being the most expensive during our weekend trip in San Antonio. While dining, we also saw that the patrons at the bar tables maybe 10 ft away were ordering bar food, which I would have preferred if we were notified of the option. On the other hand, we had a better experience for breakfast. We enjoyed the milk and honey labneh drink and our breakfast entrees. read more

Go for drinks and the views! Located on the rooftop of the Thompson Hotel, Moon's Daughter provides Mediterranean style bites for breakfast, lunch and dinner and cocktails. They have the best view of the sunset with indoor and outdoor seating available. Breakfast is okay in my opinion, but I like the bite options such as the shrimp kebab and the hummus. Visited with my mother in law and the views are amazing! I love that it's downtown and overlooking the riverwalk + San Antonio. Parking was a bit ehh but the food was great! We orders the peach pancakes and the avocado toast. The avocado toast was great but the pancakes were extremely flat. I wish they were fluffier for the price. They mentioned it's not regular as they run it to support the hotel restaurant volume so I recommend calling if you're looking for that. Went to the Helios Cafe popup coffee bar on a Sunday morning. Beautiful views of the city skyline and the Tower of Americas! Views can't be beat. Free 2hrs parking with purchase. The baristas were running out of many ingredients, but they made my SO the last pumpkin spice latte luckily! We took our drinks to sit on the restaurant outdoor patio. Keep in mind that they will only let you sit on the restaurant half of the rooftop if you are going to order food. My SO's coffee was pretty good. It was nothing special, but the chocolate cold foam on top of it was pretty tasty. I was so excited for my Matcha as I love rose and on this very hot day, Matcha sounded very refreshing. However, the Matcha was very bitter and grassy, and not much of the rose flavor came through. The coffee's total were pretty expensive, which is what I would expect at a rooftop coffee shop. The outdoor seating area is especially beautiful at sunset--easily one of the best parts of the visit. Parking can be a bit tricky with the meters, and I do wish they offered validation or allowed guests to use the hotel parking. That would make the experience even smoother. Gem Worth Every Penny! Wow--what a night at The Moon's Daughter! My wife and I decided to treat ourselves and this spot did not disappoint. From the moment we were seated, we were in awe of the panoramic rooftop views of downtown San Antonio--pure magic as the city lit up beneath us. But the real star of the evening? Albert, our server. This guy was top tier--attentive without hovering, incredibly knowledgeable, and went above and beyond when the Malbec I ordered was out. He brought out a perfect Bordeaux substitute that ended up being even better than what I originally asked for. Total pro. We started with the turmeric pickled vegetables (bright, zesty, addictive) and grilled halloumi (crispy edges, melty inside--yes please!), followed by the salmon, which was cooked to absolute perfection. Every bite was packed with flavor and felt like something special. Sure, it's not the cheapest dinner in town, but for a date night with stunning views, fantastic food, and impeccable service, it was 100% worth it. Stopped in for lunch with friend and everything was pretty good! I went with the shrimp which was good and nothing special. Although it did say it came with naan which I did not receive. My friend gave me a bite of her burger and it was pretty good and the fries were perfectly fried. We sat out on the terrace and the view was honestly meh. Nothing like what you see in the photos, it was also very dirty. I understand it's outside but it was a bit much. The indoor portion of the place was very pretty and clean. The perfect evening for delicious bites, fresh cocktails, and some great views of The Alamo City. The Moon's Daughters is within a hotel and the experience starts upon your entrance into their lobby. As you head past the staircase with the edison light bulbs, you'll head up to top floor and get dropped off. You then have the option to visit The Moon's Daughters or Saloon. We were relying on lady luck as I forgot to make a reservation (oopsie) and they were so sweet to get us a table near the bar. It was a trip to see it fairly packed and to then see it getting more and more packed throughout the night. They have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating which is their balcony. Tabletops outside seemed to only fit 2-4 max but it was fun to gander as I feel like they have plenty of private events here. Staff here was so friendly and had some great recommendations. We probably ended up there for about 2.5 hours and we were never rushed. I think that is one of the reasons why The Moon's Daughters is so alluring is because they want you to be in the moment. There was a mix of singles and couples which made it all the better to people watch. On this particular evening they had a live dj which added to the ambiance. Their truffle fries are a five-star must so don't forget to order them. We also had the halloumi, hummus, and another dish which all were super tasty. After loving our experience at Tesserae at the Thompson hotel in Atlanta we were so excited when we realized San Antonio had a Thompson Hotel with a rooftop restaurant as well. At first there were no reservations available which wasn't surprising to us as we were planning to check them out during the Final Four weekend but my husband constantly checked their website & thankfully the week of something became available. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by Crystal & Alexis who were both so friendly and welcoming. Alexis gave us a mini tour of the restaurant, the outdoor patio and even was so kind enough to take our pictures in the different locations. Both Crystal & Alexis were so helpful in giving us some recommendations of places to check out in San Antonio during our stay. Even though Alexis wasn't our waiter she checked on us throughout our dining, recommended the Coffee Chocolate Cake that my husband enjoyed all on his own. It's a small menu but we were both able to find something. My husband got the Wagyu Double Cheese burger which he said was good and filling. I got the Za'atar Chicken Quarter which was good just a tad over seasoned with salt. They give a big portion of fries with the cheese burger so we were able to share them but the fries were a little salty as well. It was a cold breezy evening so we ate inside but the entire restaurant is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows so we were able to enjoy the sunset as we ate and also went outside to snap some pictures. The outside views were amazing both during the day and night time. After an amazing evening on the rooftop we ended our night lounging in the hotel lobby by the fireplace. We are 2/2 with the Thompson Hotels, their rooftop restaurants & hotel lobby. I highly recommend checking out both the Atlanta/Buckhead and San Antonio locations. read more

Me and my husband came to have some drinks and some bites because our daughter was at the Tobin arts center watching Not for Radio so we decided to check this place out. We were immediately seated in a small side room by ourselves next to a window overlooking the skyline of San Antonio. It was a gorgeous cool night our waitress and the greeter were very welcoming, helpful and attentive we ate we ordered our gin drinks. we laughed. We had fun and then we made our way outside to the Terrace. We had some drinks there. We snuggled and looked over the beautiful sites of San Antonio. We were cold so we ended up going in as they reserved a seat inside the main dining room and we had dessert, another round of drinks and then got the text from our daughter that she was ready to go and that was our night. Our server Kim was amazing. Ambiance was horrible, we were sat right in front of the sun so the min we sat down I was sweating consistently. Now the food, I ordered the smoke chicken salad. And it looked like a pile of dog food. I then found a hair in my food which the excuse was "ginger". Lost my appetite immediately. My girlfriend's burger was WET. Not even close to edible. I recently visited this restaurant and had high hopes based on its reputation and beautiful atmosphere. While the space itself is stunning and the service was excellent, the food, unfortunately, did not meet expectations. We started with appetizers, which ended up being the best part of the meal. I ordered the hummus and the goat cheese both were delicious. The bread was incredibly soft, and the combination of goat cheese, sauce, and pomegranate worked really well together. The hummus was simple, fresh, and flavorful you really can't go wrong with either option. For my entrée, I ordered the $90 steak, which was a major letdown. It was served barely warm, and for the price, I expected it to be piping hot and perfectly cooked. The sauce that accompanied it was overpowering and masked any natural flavor from the steak. I also ordered a side of mushrooms, which, like the steak, arrived barely warm and lacked flavor. We also tried the lamb chops, which were better than the steak but still not super impressive. The potato side was undercooked and hard, though I did enjoy the olives included on the plate they added a nice touch that complemented the lamb. The service was a bright spot the staff was attentive, friendly, and very helpful throughout the night. However, the seating arrangement took away from the experience. We were seated in a small reserved section near the bar essentially couches with very low tables. Eating a full meal hunched over or with the plate in my hand was uncomfortable. We asked to move, but unfortunately, larger tables were only available on a first-come, first-served basis by the bar. Overall, the restaurant has a beautiful setting and great service, but the food and seating experience didn't justify the high prices. I will say if you are just looking for a spot for nice drinks and chatting this is a great place for that. I will give it another try in the future still a great spot to check out. read more

Disclaimer: I sent the restaurant my concerns directly and have yet to hear back about anything so now I am writing a review of my experience. We went to The Moon's Daughters last Saturday night to celebrate my birthday and really hoped for a great experience. Unfortunately, it missed the mark in a lot of ways. My husband made a reservation specifically requesting the outdoor, rooftop deck (the WHOLE reason he chose that place). When we arrived, the host told us--bluntly and somewhat rudely--that outdoor seating isn't guaranteed. Fine, we understand policies (didn't see this written anywhere, but whatever), but the way it was handled wasn't welcoming. We asked if we could move outside if a table opened up and were told yes--but we watched multiple outdoor tables clear and others be seated while we were never offered to move. Inside was uncomfortable and loud. The space was hot, and the atmosphere felt more like a nightclub than a restaurant--blasting EDM so loud we could barely hear each other talk. That might be great for some, but there's no mention of that vibe on their website. Had we known, we wouldn't have chosen it for a celebratory dinner. SO not our style. The food was good but wildly overpriced for the experience. One of the items we were excited to order wasn't available, and my cocktail was just okay--not worth the cost. I ended up switching to a vodka soda. To be fair, our server was fantastic--attentive and kind. He was the one highlight of the night and we took care of him despite the experience because none of that was his fault. Overall, The Moon's Daughters didn't deliver on what we hoped would be a memorable, special occasion. For the price point and the setting, the hospitality and ambiance just didn't match. For $25 per person with a minimum of 2, we received a plate with Baklava Pancakes, TMD Barbacoa, Pork Belly & Egg Gyro, and Grilled Peaches & Prosciutto Salad. It was family style and plenty for the 3 of us. Dad had a Lemonade, Hubby had the Blueberry Yum Yum, and I had a Mimosa. They do have these brunch items a la carte so check them out. First time at this restaurant and it was a pleasant experience. Upon entry from the street, you will walk through the lobby of the hotel as the restaurant is on the top floor. The decor gave a nice moody ambiance. Waitress was nice and food didn't take long to be served to us. The cocktails were pricy but I knew by the hotel and the vibe it wasn't going to be cheap--the drinks were good though. There's two outdoor decks available, one that is on the right as you come off the elevator and the other on the opposite side. I was frankly appalled at the attitude and sour face ("RBF" as my daughter calls it.) of the hostess a the moon daughter's restaurant on the evening of Jan. 1st. She was not friendly at all when we asked for a table and we were likewise surprised there was a 45 minute wait when the girl at the front desk told us that we wouldn't need a reservation at all. On top of all this the service was painfully slow for so few patrons that night. Same thing happened the next morning for breakfast - so slow! At one point we asked for an extra piece of toast and it took more than 20 minutes....for a piece of toast. There could not have been more than 20 people there having breakfast and I noticed at least 5 waitstaff. This food is way too overpriced for such poor service. read more

The restaurant certainly makes an impression when you first walk in -- sleek décor, ambient lighting, and a rooftop view that could easily be the highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, once the food arrived, it became clear that the atmosphere was doing most of the heavy lifting. At $85 for the Wagyu steak, expectations were high for a melt-in-your-mouth experience layered with rich, buttery flavor. Instead, the steak was underwhelming -- the only redeeming note was a decent crust that provided some texture and faint seasoning, but beyond that, the flavor fell flat. For a dish at that price point, you'd expect something memorable; this, sadly, was not it. The $45 lamb chops were slightly better -- cooked reasonably well and seasoned enough to make them enjoyable, though nothing about them stood out as exceptional. They were the kind of dish you'd be fine with at half the cost, but when placed alongside such lofty pricing, they simply didn't justify the expense. The portions were modest, and while the presentation was elegant, it didn't make up for the lack of depth in flavor or creativity in execution. Ultimately, the restaurant seems to rely more on its elevated view than on the quality of its menu. The rooftop setting and city lights provide an undeniably beautiful backdrop for an evening out, but diners hoping for a culinary experience equal to the cost may leave disappointed. If you're going for the ambiance, it's a lovely spot for a drink and a photo. But if you're going for the food, there are far better ways to spend $130 elsewhere in the city. Our server, Albert was excellent and was able to really take the time to talk to the customers. Valet is $30 Restrooms are really nice and very clean and very spacious. I see good potential though that has been here for four years, it's just the prices are just a little high where I have had extraordinary steak a lot better than this but what you're paying for is the view and atmosphere.
