I had a gift certificate from someone who couldn't use it and so was able to get a 60 minute table massage for $20. That said, I would gladly have paid the full $70 for the massage Mem gave me. I have been having issues with my shoulders and back, and Mem really targeted those areas and left some time for my arms and legs. I looked up a massage place on Yelp since I am new to Seattle. This place had the best reviews. I booked an appointment the weekend before I actually went for my man's birthday. Not alot of places do couple massage, I wasn't expecting but the lady on the phone nicely told me they can schedule two appts at the same time. I had to call to cancel since we had to fly out last minute and no fuss, no problem, no attitude she canceled and rebooked me for the following weekend and if anything changed, not a problem, let them know. Had a nice reminder call from the lady on their answering machine. I managed to surprise and trick the boyfriend for his bday massage. We both really liked it. He was feeling much better and so was I. We had been having neck and shoulder problems that were escalating until then. I quit the salon and spa business about two years ago which just makes you the most particular person about services you can either do yourself or are use to get at top quality. And they are clean, priced fairly and gave us a feel good enough massage that we will probably and want to return. I would recommend to try it. read more

I was given a 45 minute massage as a gift and my god, what a good gift that was. The building is located in a quaint area at the intersection of Roy St. and Broadway, right next to Roy Street Café and close to the Harvard Theater. It's small inside, but comfortable and the staff are very professional. Sabrina was my masseuse and I can honestly say that she was one of the best people I've had a massage from. She knows how to apply deep pressure well, which is great if you have a sports injury or onset pain, and used long strokes and pressure points which really loosened the muscles. I tend to suffer from headaches and the occasional migraine and she suggested (and used!) a wonderful oil that smelt of menthol while gently massaging it along my neck and forehead. I'm excited to return and look at some of their other services. read more

I decided it was time to treat myself to a massage! I live right by Roy street and walk by the loveless building often. I saw Malerie. She was super sweet and had great energy. I felt comfortable and that is extremely important in this setting! I expressed my long hour shifts and that I work two jobs. She had great touch and she worked in my areas of concern. One thing I have to say is she is AMAZING at relaxing massage but I think I need a little more pressure and that might have been my lack of communication. Like I said she was very calm and had a nice touch. Just make sure if you are wanting a deep tissue or more of a corrective massage try a place that specializes in that. I have nothing bad to say about this super cute place and I will probably return on a day I need a "treat yourself" day!! read more

Massage Sanctuary is a quiet little Capitol Hill refuge. A lovely neighborhood retreat. I have been a regular there now of Jeremy who's level of professionalism and presence rewards me every time with relief of my pain and stress. He gives great deep tissue. My masseuse was Bree and she did an excellent job. After my shoulders had lost a lot of the tightness and I was completely relaxed. inexperienced. not worth $75/hour. pleasant folks, but nice doesn't cut it. I've been to a lot of massage therapists and spas and they are a "C" grade. Went based on Yelp reviews and they were HORRIBLY inexperienced. Olivier and Melissa are both very nice, but they don't get the job done asked for. Pretty much got a superficial rub down for 60 minutes when the ask was for deep tissue. Upsetting because they are spendy at $75/hour and claim to be very experienced and good at what they do. Also asked to concentrate on trouble spots like lower back, and instead got shoulder/neck and other areas for a surface body rub. Best massage therapists in the area include Carolina of Lake Union Massage and Glen of Eastside Massage. Both are massage maestros and help you achieve nirvana or something close to it. Save your $75/hour for Carolina, Glen and the ones worthy of earning your hard earned dollars. Folks who rated Massage Sanctuary must be first-timers... branch out and then come back to your reviews. The massage I received was one of the worst, if not the worst I have ever experienced. It made me wonder if Sabrina was even certified. I felt as if I had an hour of oil application, not a massage. I was asked at the beginning about pressure and I asked for more (and I don't usually have to ask for more as I don't like really deep massages). Sabrina only used pressure when using her forearms/elbows. When using her hands it was like she was simply rubbing oil on me forgetting that there are muscles under the skin. Her technique was also very poor. For instance when when she did my hands she did not even pull on each finger or do much of a palm massage. Ditto for the feet. read more

I had booked a 90 minute massage for my boyfriend with my favorite therapist at a massage spot about a block away from Massage Sanctuary. Since my favorite place didn't have any available spots at the same time as my boyfriends appointment I thought it would be a good time to check out the Massage Sanctuary. My therapist Sabrina was on time and really very nice. She asked what sort of pressure I preferred and I let her know I prefer a deep tissue massage. Sabrina is not the therapist for deep tissue work. She has a very light but soothing touch. She would be perfect for anyone wanting to be lulled into a totally relaxed state. I was sore from an active weekend and could have really used some deep tissue work. I could have spoke up and asked for more pressure but it's been my experience that you either have the gift of deep tissue work or you don't. This is in no way a knock on Sabrina or her gift. It's just a personal preference. All the bits that were sore before I walked in were still sore when I left but I was much more relaxed and ready to head home and sleep. The building itself is beautiful and smells wonderful. I would come back and see Sabrina for sure if I ever I just need to be relaxed. read more

I booked at prenatal massage with Clare Ellis at 6 months pregnant. I showed up 5 minutes early but was left waiting in the lobby until 5 minutes past my scheduled time. Someone checked me in, but Clare didn't approach me to bring me back to the treatment room. Why? She explained that she hadn't thought I could possibly be her next appointment because she "didn't see a bump." I was wearing a down vest and a down coat. What a find! I had literally woken up on the wrong side of the bed, and had a jacked up shoulder for my trouble. I was in desperate need of a massage, and all my usual places were booked. I finally decided to take a chance on this place, and I'm so glad I did. First off, just the fact that they have same day walk in appointments is a huge plus. I felt relaxed the minute I walked in the door. The interior was beautiful, serene and very clean. The massage therapist I worked with, Mem, was really wonderful.
