Nice staff and a clean room. There's a bbq place, bar, and chain restaurant walkable from the hotel. It's definitely a little worn out.

This hotel is good for what it's for, my family and I enjoyed stayed here the day before we had a early flight out of RDU. I used mobile check-in and digital key so I had no real reason to stop at the front desk, however I did stop there to inquire about leaving our ice packs for our little one milk in the freezer with them until the next morning before taking flight. I was informed that the refrigerator in the room had a freezer which from my hotel experience (if it's not one with a kitchen) it's a small tiny fridge with a little shelf considered the freezer. I was ensured that wasn't the case and to my surprise it wasn't the fridge had a totally separate freezer department which froze the ice packs great. The room was older for my liking but only needed for the night for us to get some rest before our long 5 hours and 30 minutes. The staff was very kind both the evening of our arrival and the next morning before we headed to the airport. The continental breakfast area was brightly lit and had a nice amount of items to choose from. The fresh juices were a great surprise and the other items available as well.

Not a Hampton inn. Carpet is old and musty. Sofa has different color cushions. Cockroach ran across floor. Sink drains poorly. Toilet is low and feels like it will fall over Outside Pool in back is empty and cracked Breakfast was cereal in a box. Nothing hot or cooked Never again

Very average. Poor lighting in the bathroom. No towel bars. A few lousy hooks not secured into the wall. Stains on carpet.

We also each got one free drink at the bar! I do wish there had been a little more Christmas feel in the room itself since there wasn't any holiday decor inside, but the hotel and surrounding area were gorgeous. The park right behind it was lit up beautifully with activities, which made it such a fun place to walk through. Parking unfortunately wasn't great since there were only a handful of spots, so we had to park a bit far away and walk back any time we left. The bed was super comfy and cozy, and room service comes from their restaurant so the food was delicious. The woman at the front desk was incredibly sweet and accommodating, and they also have extras like toothbrushes and other essentials if you forget anything. It is on the pricier side, but if you want to treat yourself for a special occasion, I highly recommend it. We're already talking about making it a tradition.

On the wedding day, they even steamed my dress as a surprise, which I really appreciated. Our wedding coordinator was organized and incredibly helpful in managing the timeline, making sure everything ran smoothly and on schedule. One thing to note is that the venue is fairly strict about outside vendors not on their preferred list. Thankfully, our photographer already had liability insurance, but there were a few extra personal touches we had to forgo due to these guidelines. The complimentary suite included in our package was a highlight--spacious, beautifully designed, and perfect for getting ready with friends and family. The bed was very comfortable, though the multi-head shower took some getting used to. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches: handwritten notes, complimentary champagne and chocolates at check-in, and another bottle of champagne along with a small piece from the Michael Aram Anemone collection on our wedding night--such a special gesture. Food for both the cocktail hour and reception met our expectations, and many of our guests had great things to say about the quality and hospitality. Our signature cocktails--the Old Fashioned and espresso martini--were solid and well-made. Overall, they truly took great care of us and helped make our wedding day feel special.

After my spa visit I headed to the pool and was seated in a spot with an umbrella, as requested. Unfortunately, the umbrella was broken and I had to move myself to a spot with a functioning umbrella. Next, we ordered drinks, which we both were enjoying until the staff walked by and swiped up my unfinished drink. He didn't ask if I wanted anything, just silently took it and kept moving. My husband decided to keep his drink in hand for the rest of his, and when he was done the guy drove by and snatched his up. He didn't stop to ask if we needed anything else. I was planning to have drinks and lunch by the pool, but after that moment I decided I was done with the Umstead pool and left.

The centerpiece of the house's interior is a rotunda supported by four Corinthian columns and lit by a stained glass window located on the roof. Walking into the foyer you cant help but embrace the timeless grace, where every corner whispers of history and a bygone era. There is a quiet serenity to the space, as if time slows just a little bit inside. The modern touch added to the old renovated mansion does come with a bit of a sharp, sterile elegance of a modern mansion. The Parlor is a great place to enjoy a delicious craft cocktail and even better, ADULTS ONLY! Everything is lovely and though it is all modern and sleek, it still feels fitting for the original era of the house. The cocktail area takes up most of the main floor, with a stand-up bar just off the entryway with a few tables and then a larger lounging area with sofas and chairs just beyond. The drinks are exceptionally good, and the spirits menu is creative. They also offer a few small plates. There is plenty of paved parking immediately next to the hotel for guests only, so that is not a hassle as it can be at some B&B/inn-type establishments. At check-in, you are offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to set the tone. The rooms are comfortable, but I will say that the entry-level ones are quite small (which is apparent on the website), but for the rates charged there isn't even a place to sit and read a book other than the bed. There's one small, delicate wicker chair that would be for tying shoes or whatever, but not lounging. The bed is luxuriously dressed, and there is drawer space and a minifridge, but no closet -- hanging items can go on hooks by the door out in the open. The bathroom is spacious enough, with a broad sink and elegant tilework. The lighting fixtures throughout are nifty. I found the breakfast sort of average for this type of place. I came later on, so perhaps there is more earlier, but there were a few pastries, some hard-boiled eggs, and fruit when I arrived. There's also a fancy coffee-drink contraption, but those aren't my thing so I left that alone. It's a very easy walk across the Boylan Bridge and down a couple of blocks to the area of the Dillon with several restaurants, and the performing arts center is not far beyond that. Location-wise, there's plenty that's walkable but also more an easy drive away.

The hotel has two elevators, a pool and a fitness room. The lobby was nice. When I got to my room, I pushed both switches and one lit up the microwave area and the other didn't seem to do anything. There were no overhead lights and it was dark. There was a small lamp on the desk and another lamp near the bed. From photos it seems my room was missing a lamp near the couch and likely another on the other side of the bed as there was a switch there that wasn't doing anything either. I could deal with the darkness for a night but it wouldn't work so well for a long term stay. I normally have a book with me so I wouldn't have had enough light for that. The bathroom was large and had plenty of light. I wish some of those overhead lights were in the room portion. WIFI was good. The tv didn't always connect so it was the static screen a lot. When it was turned on it would have the thinking circle and then a little bit later a station would show up or the static. It was just a night there so not so much an issue but I wouldn't want to deal with it for a long term stay. The HVAC unit worked well but was on the louder side. So I am not sure if that buffered out any traffic noise. I slept well and the mattress and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast had a room with waffle makers; eggs; sausage and potatoes. Then breads and oatmeal.
