Dan Smith's Candies is a quaint confectioner in the heart of darling little downtown Clarion PA. I…read morerecently stopped in to grab a sweet snack when my husband and I were in town on a quiet road trip getaway together. The store is surprisingly big and bright, with a large, long case full of all sorts of sugary treats. There was a wide assortment of filled chocolates and other kinds of chocolate candies. The middle of the store has several shelves of wrapped novelty candies, gummies and hard candies, gift items, and greeting cards. At the front there is also a small ice cream case for hand-dipped cones and sundaes. My attention diverted to a case with one of my favorite sweet treats--the fudge case. There were at least ten fudge flavors, or so. I asked if I could get a quarter-pound small box with a piece of three flavors I'd like to try, to which the very kind counter attendant happily obliged. I selected the cherry nut, peanut butter, and strawberry cheesecake flavors. I also purchased a funny greeting card for my brother's upcoming birthday. When my husband and I were back in our room later, the fudge did not disappoint! It was creamy, fresh and flavorful, with a little bit of the super-sweet treat going a long way! I was very pleased with my candy and card purchase from Dan Smith's, and would gladly stop by again the next time we are in cute lil' Clarion PA. PS FYI - Also housed in the same space as Dan Smith's is Main Street Emporium, a different store but that uses the same entrance as the candy shop. Be sure to check out that business, too! - https://www.yelp.com/biz/main-street-emporium-antiques-and-gifts-clarion .

The woman who was working was very nice and friendly. I wish I had asked her name. I ordered a pumpkin pie latte and she made it quickly and it tasted great! I asked for it to be not too sweet and she was happy to customize the flavor for me. There were all of the normal coffee shop styles and flavors to fit any pallet. We ordered two paninis. They were perfect! Made to order with fresh ingredients. It hit the spot for a healthier handheld while traveling. They also offered fresh soup and hearty salads. Finally, every road trip needs a sweet treat so we grabbed some delicious homemade cookies for the road. There were also offerings of snacks like bagged chips and what looked like some locally made candies. The location is inside an older mall with not much foot traffic, however the cafe was very clean. It isn't cozy like some coffee shops but that's okay. There are also electronic gaming machines for anyone who enjoys coffee and games of chance! You can't beat good service, good homemade food and a good cup of Joe!

We came on a Monday early evening for dinner as it was conveniently across the street from a car charging station. Our server was Steven was great and upbeat. After we came in a large group was assigned to him and he remained his upbeat self and continued to cracked jokes even though he seemed a little stressed and was running around. We ordered the pretzel sticks as an app and while it didn't look great, it tasted good. I ordered the Italiano with mac and cheese and I got the Italiano grilled cheese. The kitchen probably made a mistake as the receipt was right. I didn't want to bother our already stressed server as this was my second choice anyways. My partner ordered the whale of a cod dinner with tots and chili. The cod had too much crust but tasted good according to my partner. As a side, you can do the salad bar for an additional $3.99 which seems like a great deal! I would try this next time, was not in the mood for salad that day.
