Stopped at The County Seat Restaurant in Clarion during a road trip from Chicago to NYC, and I'm so glad I did. A friend searched around for a local place to eat, and this spot was such a great find. I had the Gruber Farms kielbasa and eggs with home fries and toast, and everything was excellent. The home fries were especially memorable -- perfectly cooked with just the slightest crispiness to them. I actually asked the waitress how they got them like that, and she told me they use panko. So good. The staff was very friendly, and the whole place had such a quaint, welcoming atmosphere. It felt like one of those little hometown restaurants you hope to stumble across on a long trip. Great food, great service, and just an overall really enjoyable experience. Would highly recommend. read more

Quaint breakfast and lunch restaurant on Main Street in Clarion. The menu offers a variety of breakfast items and lunch items. I ordered the grilled chicken salad with peaches and poppy dressing on the side. It was very fresh and tasty with the peaches on top. The twisty bread was soft and doughy. We received great service- friendly, helpful and quick. The interior was set up nice with a large window looking out at Main Street. The outside was decorated really pretty with beautiful planters of flowers. Please visit this hidden gem for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. read more

My family was staying in Cook Forest for a long weekend and we ended up coming here twice for breakfast. Overall, we left happy - service was great and the food hit the spot. The first day, I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel with a hash brown. Not sure where the bagel was from but it was great - light and tasty. The rest of my family was happy with their orders too - omelettes and pancakes. The next day, I got the French toast. It's nothing fancy - basically like French toast you would get at home with regular bread, but I still finished my plate. My daughter got the same omelette she had the day before which is a testament to how delicious it was! She also loved her hot chocolate, especially the big serving of whipped cream on top. We were driving through this town on our way to an Airbnb when I looked online and found this charming diner. my boyfriend and I both had the eggs Benedict because we are big fans and this place had an amazing one. We left and got coffee but as we were driving away, I suggested getting a piece of pie! And my bf agreed. In his excitement or "pie high" he locked the keys in the car! We've been here before but on a much busier day of the week. There is front street parking and extra parking in the back. .25 for 2 hours is great. Handicap parking and entrance is also available. This little gem is located right in the heart of Clarion center. With a country look and comfort, this restaurant has a lot to offer with reasonable prices, and daily specials. It is in walking distance from Clarion Courthouse, and many stores and general businesses in the surrounding area. The ambiance reminds me of a Mom & Pop setting, with farm pictures on the wall. There are booths and tables for you party's preferences. Cash is good but credit cards are welcomed. The waitstaff seem very pleasant and knew most of the regulars by name. We stopped here on our way home from Cook Forest. We love finding local diners and this one did not disappoint! Be sure to order the breadsticks. They were just like grandma's homemade rolls. We were going to Punxsutawny for Groundhog Day. We wanted a local place to eat so we came here. The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. My son and I got meals that had their sausage gravy and they were so good. My husband got an omelette and it was filled with a lot of toppings. This restaurant is absolutely fantastic! From the decor to the service to the food, a 10/10 experience. I had a grilled chicken strawberry feta salad with their homemade dressing- fresh and divine! My husband got a BLT and couldn't believe the quality of the bacon. If you aren't eating here, you're sleeping on a gem in the heart of Clarion. The owners have done a wonderful job with the renovations and are class acts. The prices are hard to beat for the quality of the food. They apparently make a lot of their own food in-house, including the soups and desserts which rotate. The carrot cake was next levellllllll. With chain restaurants costing an arm and a leg nowadays, you simply will not find a better bang for your buck anywhere else. My husband and I recently escaped reality for a few days on a road trip to cute little Clarion PA. I love a quiet, adorable country town with coffee shops, nearby nature attractions, local shopping, and cute diners. And that's where County Seat comes in--what a cute diner, indeed! While we were in town, we stopped in for brunch twice! The restaurant is seat-yourself. It was fairly busy when we stopped in on Saturday and Sunday later mornings, but there were still a few tables open. (We were in town after Clarion University had wrapped for the semester, and I imagine it's probably busier when school is in session.) There is street parking in front, as well as public lots behind the diner. The menu is your typical breakfast and lunch spread of comfort food favorites. On my first visit I went with a Seinfeld'esque BIG salad, which was delicious! It was loaded with fresh toppings, including eggs and fruit. On my second visit, I was lured in by the M&M pancakes, probably a fave of the college crowd. They were HUGE, definitely an indulgence! With both my meals, I also tried the in-house homemade bread, which was YUM! It was doughy and chewy, great as a bread stick with my salad, and toast with my breakfast. My husband was happy with all of his foods too, with the unusual-to-us star of his picks being fried mush! It's apparently a regional food that is a fried cornmeal patty. It was scrumptious with butter as a breakfast side, and the waitress said it is also yummy with chili. So I guess that we have to come back for chili now, ha! We really enjoyed our dining experiences at The County Seat! The food was satisfying and superb, the prices were fair, the restaurant was comfortable, and our servers were super sweet as well. If a future road trip adventure that brings us back near The County Seat, we'll surely be back in again! :-) read more

Another COVID19 review...Wrapping up a Clarion/Cooks Forest visit we decided to stop on our way home at the County Seat and have breakfast. We arrived right around 8am on a Saturday and with the reduced seating there was going to be a wait. Originally I was told 15 minutes but it ended up being less than five minutes. Not all staff was wearing a mask but the majority was. I did observe them wiping down any condiments that a table used upon their departure. I had the country fried steak and eggs with home fries. I also had their homemade bread toast. The bread was huge and amazing. I enjoyed everything but the home fries. They appeared frozen which always bothers me in a place like this. Take pride in your potatoes! My wife had two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. My oldest had peanut butter pancakes with bacon, and my youngest had pancakes. Everyone was stuffed and thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Food ( not withstanding the potatoes) was very good, service was excellent, and the prices were cheap. I smelled a little of grease afterwards which I could have done without but overall if you are in the area you definitely want to stop here for a meal. read more

Wanted something not far off of I-80 but didn't want a chain. Found good reviews on Yelp and gave it a try. Pretty busy but they had a few open tables. Adorable little diner. I've only ever gotten breakfast foods, but it was delicious. The M&M pancakes are wonderful, and their home fries are great. My sister had their biscuits and gravy, which she enjoyed. They also make a PERFECT over easy egg. Coffee mugs were refilled quickly, and service was fast. The prices are as cheap as you can get. I ate there with a friend the other day and it cost a total of about $12 for the two of us. The decor is old fashioned, grandma sort of stuff, but it fits. The crowd is a mix of college kids and older towns people. Seat yourself, and cash only. There's a PNC right next door though. Whether I order an omelette, pancakes, French toast, or eggs and sausage, I'm never disappointed. I love their homemade bread (coated with a ridiculous amount of yummy butter). I also appreciate that they serve hot tea with your very own pot of extra hot water. I recommend the home fries over the hash browns, since the hash browns taste like they are deep fried. For lunch I love their salads , especially since they are served with their homemade bread. The service isn't over the top, but it's exactly what I want/need. Breakfast served until 2p on weekdays and all day on weekends...And oh yes, it's fantastic for a local greasy spoon! I got breakfast: omelette (great size), toast (buttery), hash browns (fiyah), salads (large or small, really good). Service: local, raw, but not rude or slow by any means. They work hard and make it easy to tip well. This is, hands down, one of the most overrated eateries in Clarion. You will hear people RAVE about the pancakes and desserts if you go to college here. It's just ok. There is nothing special about the County Seat. Most people just find it nostalgic and can't tell the difference. It's cash only, and the hours are pretty terrible. It's a breakfast and lunch only place, but you had better want to eat lunch early. Lets talk about the one good thing. They're pretty cheap. But it's central PA. Everything is pretty cheap. I can say with great conviction that if you are a college student, 3/4 times you will have terrible service. I'm guessing people tip quite poorly here so the waitresses will ignore you and cater to the regulars. Since I didn't grow up in a small town, I understand how to tip and expect service. Additionally, there is no structure to the seating system. Everyone just stands around the front door and runs for the first open table. So someone that came in 15 minutes after you will probably sit down first. Uh, mass chaos much? The food is just average. The M&M pancakes are decent, but I can make the same thing at home and better. Eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, etc. are some of the fastest and easiest foods to cook ever. And County Seat isn't really doing anything to make them special. Finally, just don't get dessert here. I have tried three different pies, and they have all been foul and disgusting. My roommate and I were convinced that it had to be that we were picking the wrong things until everyone else not from the area agreed. The only reason this place is getting a two star rating is because the first visit last year was okay. Today's visit was horrible. My friend and I arrived around 12:30, toward the end of the lunch rush. We got our coffee and water, and ordered our food. I got a deli sandwich and fries, my friend a chicken sandwich and mashed potatoes. It was 12:34. Our food didn't arrive until 1:13, after we inquired about about the hold up. I went there today with my wife got a chicken deluxe salad, i got them in the past , anyway my wife ordered meatloaf, no meatloaf which is a menu item, so she ordered the hot roast beef, ok our food comes, the chicken is stone cold on my salad so i sent it back, guy comes back in 2 minutes drops it in front of me and says here, also the menu says grilled chicken, what do i get a chicken steak that goes on a sandwich, no onions, tomatoes, nasty chunks of cucumber, why would you put something like that on a salad, the lettuce tasted musty and like cooler, my wifes roast beef was cold, as well, the waitress is telling us their ruining the business, the new owners, and its pretty apparent they are, why change the menu, cheapen everything, i worked in the food industry all my life, and never run into anything like that today, there are cooks and slop jockeys, and that place has turned into a slop jockey hole. read more
