Added tip to the bill without saying anything for a party of 4. Owner tried to defend her drink making skills and said everything was OK and people love it. The Meating House I really wanted to like this place I really did. I was excited for steak and possibly lobster or some kind of seafood. I had been sick the past week, and I hadn't had a full meal in seven days. I was feeling great and basically starve myself all day in anticipation of a delicious steak and seafood combo of some sort. It's conveniently located there's plenty of parking it seems clean brightly lit enough to be able to read the menus dark enough to be romantic. The staff all seemed lovely. Time to order I asked the server which I should have the surf and turf, which is a lobster tail and a fillet or a baked stuffed strip steak. I ended up ordering the surf and turf and he asked me how I'd like my steak, I said medium rare. My brother ordered fish and chips and he's from a Sea Food town and he said it was delicious. My husband order the pork schnitzel he travels to Germany often so is a bit of a schnitzel snob but he enjoyed it and said he would go back for it. My plate was delivered with two (crab)cakes on it, a baked potato and some vegetables. Everything looked great but I questioned the crabcakes. He said he was sorry he thought I ordered the steak and cakes and said he'd be happy to take it back, I said no, no that's fine I like crabcakes. That's fine. Thinking I'm still gonna get my steak. Shortly there after he delivered to me my steak knives that my steak would be up shortly After eating a bite or two of my cakes, I realize that they were see-through takes, which I did not care for at all personally, husband said they were OK After a while, the server came by to remove the plates at which time I questioned about my steak he said oh I'm sorry didn't I tell you steak doesn't come with that dinner. He was very young seemed new, and I was not about to ruin his evening, and he was very kind to offer several times that he get me something new. My fault for not speaking up earlier, which had I known this would've been the outcome I would have. However, at this point my companions were ready to go home they were full they were done. Why would I wait for a new dinner to come out to me and then sit there and eat while they're bored and then it just wasn't worth it I was I was DONE by then. Had the server been more experienced. I'm sure that he would have suggested to remove the price off of our bill. However, he did not and I was not about to make a big scene know is my husband. We let it go, but I can tell you one thing if that ever happens to me again I will absolutely speak up and make sure that since you asked me what temperature I'd like my steak and you gave me a steak knife is there actually stay coming because if not, yes I would like to send everything back and order my new meal that I originally ordered. I can see how this could be a hidden gem, but I can also see how it could be disastrous. They were too young servers, one of them clearly being trained in an area with five tables. Not that this was Offseason, because has the weather been colder and snow year they probably would've had a very long line outside. We were lucky that they did not. Although I did make reservations. For the price of the food, I would have thought that they would've changed them better, but from reading the reviews on the Internet, it seems as though management doesn't care to resolve any issues with them anyway. Thankfully, Sheetz was not far between there and our condo and I was able to get dinner there. I was exhausted and fed up with the night which ended up with our electricity flashing on and off all night and me thinking I had been Punked. Sadly, I had not been and this was a true and real experience at the Meating House I gave it a 3 star bc I'm told the food was good and my server, despite the complete screw up, was trying to be accommodating, with the exception of ordering the correct meal or communicating to me that he completely screwed up read more

I will not return and I don't recommend anyone try this....we did the recon and recommend and just pass it up. Luckly we ordered an appetizer and cocktails as soon as we sat down, since those took at least 1/2 hour to arrive. At least twice, a staff member swung by and said the clams casino were coming right up. The clams were over cooked, not surprising as it took so long to arrive at the table. The server came to the table twice to report items they were out of----potatoes au gatin and wild rice. When the entrees came to the table an hour later, they were underwhelming. My BROILED SEAFOOD CASSEROLE - ATLANTIC HADDOCK, SHRIMP, AND SCALLOPS, LEMON BUTTER, had no flavor and the scallops and shrimp were uneatable, the texture was rubbery. When reported to the server, who was very apologetic, she said she would let the manager know. The manager did not come to the table or offer any apology. For our appetizer we had soup. I had lemon chicken, and my husband had French onion soup. We both loved them! For my main dish I had cheese tortellini with grilled chicken, it was good. My husband had the sirloin steak, which was perfectly cooked, he also said it was good. Both items were on the early bird special menu. Slow. Expensive. Poor Quality. The Meating House has a nice atmosphere inside. There, I said something nice. My mother will be proud. On to the rest. As a party of 6, we waited nearly two hours for our food, which was completely absurd since the restaurant was otherwise empty (we should have taken the hint I suppose). We mentioned this to the manager and were told that fine dining takes time. That might be so, but this dining was anything but fine. Our steaks were overcooked, the meat was poor quality, and the service was terrible. All this at outrageous prices. Give this one a miss. Given how empty it was, clearly the locals all do. read more

We just left there and will be back!! The atmosphere was so relaxing and the staff was wonderful. I bumped my full water glass and everything on the table was soaked, tablecloth, linen napkins, etc . Without missing a beat they relocated us to another table then quickly removed and replaced everything on our original table. They didn't seem to mind even though it was clearly a busy Saturday with many tables occupied. They brought markers for our granddaughter to keep her amused while we enjoyed conversation and a delicious dinner( I had the chicken and crab piccata ). Yes, we will return. read more

Then again, if your idea of a good restaurant is Olive Garden, Longhorne, or Pizza Hut, this place is probably not for you. Food is cooked to order & as such, takes time. Your staff will not try to rush you out so they can replace you with the next customer at your table. The food was beyond excellent. The portions were certainly more than adequate. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is old and rustic, but well maintained and a great environment for a leisurely meal. This is a hidden gem that is well worth a visit. A great place to go for a nice dinner. They have a large menu, with many choices to accommodate anyone. Steaks, seafood, lamb, chicken, pasta, and wonderful appetizers. The workers are very friendly, and the owner came to the table to ask how everything was and to just talk to our party. The prices are reasonable for very good food. They use high quality ingredients in their entrees. If you order crab meat, you get real lump crab meat. That's what you're supposed to get when you order quality food at a restaurant. I've been to the The Meating House a few times now, and the food has been consistently good, and the quality of service has been very good. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to get away from the chain restaurants that seem to be everywhere you turn. If you want great food at a fair price, at a wonderful privately owned restaurant, check this place out. It's clean, the food is great, the menu is diverse, and the people are friendly. Here for dinner on a Friday in March. Arrived at opening ( 5 pm ) and seated promptly. Ambience cosy and warm. Wonderful food (cod stuffed with crab for him, pirate salmon (light rum maple sauce ) for me). Salads crisp with wonderfull house made dressings ( Italian for him, house balsamic w/blue cheese crumbles for me). Baked sweet potato cooked perfectly. We have heard good things about this place so we gave it at try. We had apps and and dinner. We like to have dinner at the bar. We like to eat at the bar as it is having dinner with strangers that makes for a great night. A conversation with people from all walks of life and an interesting time. At the least you talk to the bartender who usually try's to talk to their patrons. Mostly we use saw her back to us. At the time they're were only two other people at the bar. She handed us off to one of the waitresses for our service. She was working the dining rooms so we sat waiting for refills on drinks every time. The bartender couldn't have care less. We had the feeling as we were not locals we should not been at her bar. As other patrons came to the bar she had a personality for them even though my husband had an empty beer right in front of her she walked away a couple of times. Not a hard bar to work about ten stools. Once while our waitress passed she asked my husband if he needed another the bartender got the beer to help her out but poured it and left it at the tap instead of walking five feet to give it to him and when the waitress returned she had to bring it to him. Now the waitress wasn't bad but while eating we realized the bartender was the owner and our pregnant waitresses mother. Nice. Our apps and dinner were fabulous,nice menu not the same old thing. My husband has been a butcher for over thirty five years so when he eats all of his steak and says it was great it means something.
