Frogtown Chophouse has a cool atmosphere. It seems like a classic Poconos restaurant. They sent two different amuse bouche, which is very generous. Most of the food we had was good or very good. Our server was very nice and provided great service. She even handled the issue that makes this a 3 Star Review very well. The Manager did too. But if you're a respected chophouse, you can't get a steak wrong three times in a row. Frogtown offers a signature mixed grill experience that has a 16 ounce strip, a lobster tail, a crab cake, a few sides (whipped potatoes, long strips of carrots and delicious garlicky mushrooms). It's over $100, but really a pretty good value with all you get. My wife and I decided to split this. I ordered the steak medium rare, which is important to the review. The lobster tail was very good. The crab cake was meaty and good. The carrots were a highlight. The whipped potatoes were good. As was the creamed spinach the table shared. The calamari app (which was a bit heavy on the batter) and burrata app (needed more tomatoes) were both decent. The strip steak was the issue. As our server delivered the plate, she said "when you get a chance, could you cut the steak open and make sure it's done to your liking." I've never had a server in a nice steak restaurant ask me to do this before. It's not a good look. They should already know. I assumed she was concerned it was undercooked. I pressed my knife against the steak. Because I grill steaks, I knew that it was medium well or well done. I said "well, I can tell it's not underdone." I cut the steak down the middle. And it was medium well or well done. I very, very rarely send food back. But at a respected chop house, and at that price, I sent it back. And frankly, it wasn't a big deal at that stage because we had plenty of other food. A manager came out with a new steak. She apologized. Again, I was asked to cut it open. I pressed my knife against the new steak. I knew even before I cut it, because the steak squished as I pressed it. This time -- it wasn't even rare yet. So I had to send it back again. The steak came back. I cut it down the middle of one of the halves. It was a little more done, but it was on the borderline of being rare and undercooked still. I wasn't going to send the steak back a third time. So I ate the parts closest to the ends and sides. The steak was too chewy and underseasoned. I don't know what was going on. Maybe a regular chef was out and an inexperienced person had to step up. In any event, if you're famous for your steaks, you can't have those kinds of misses. Also, the plating of this experience could use a fresh look. Everything was put on the same plate and it was really crowded. 3 Stars read more

Returned to this gem hidden up in the Poconos with my wife to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. They were all so nice. They had an anniversary card and 2 glasses of champagne waiting at the table for us. So sweet! We ordered an App to share and some entrees. We were brought a complementary App of fried potatoes along with our Think Cut Bacon. It was definitely different than the Pork Belly they used to make. It was kind of dried out and chewy. Disappointing since I truly loved the Pork Belly. Then our dinners came. My Salmon was delicious but my wife's Pork Chop was very tuff. I had to cut it for her because she couldn't. We were celebrating a birthday and thought Frogtown Chophouse would be the perfect place to celebrate. A cute and quaint restaurant that looks like it's a cute cottage. Hard wood floors, a fireplace, and family appeal greeted us as we were seated. The staff and the manager were very helpful and did a wonderful job. We ordered our meals, a pork chop and fries for him and salmon with shrimp with Parmesan green beans for me. Both meals were salty. Like, extremely noticeably salty. I figured out it was the sauce on my food, his pork chop was just salty. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed. The server and manger were so nice, they took a percentage off from the pork chop entree and apologized profusely. They even decided we couldn't leave without a dessert for the birthday boy and gave him a bread pudding for his dessert to take home. Personally, I wasn't impressed with the food here. We were served 2 mini chocolate frogs as an after dinner treat and even those were salty. Sigh! When you have a salty meal, it kind of turns you off on the food. Made a reservation at the Frogtown Chophouse during a recent girls weekend. We were welcomed once we had arrived and was seated in this quaint dining room and a romantic setting for dates (just saying). Sophia was our waitress and she was wonderful and patient with us. We had a little one with us and the entire wait staff was so kind to her. We ordered the calamari and fries as a starter and omg it was amazing. The fries were the best and we def needed to place a second order for another round of fries. As an entree, my sister and I ordered the chefs special to share. It came with a steak, crab cake, and lobster tail, steamed string beans, and mashed potatoes. There was also a variety of sauces. Everything was soo delicious and loved that we got a taste of everything with the platter. We enjoyed our dinner and loved the ambiance. I would say the high reviews are based on the locals that live in the area. I hate to say it but there isn't a lot of great food choices when visiting the Poconos. As an out of towner who has access to amazing cuisine options in my area this restaurant gets three stars and that's being nice. When you walk in it's like a motel entrance. Literally it has all the tourist pamphlets lining the entrance to the hostess stand which doubles as the front desk of the hotel. It's not welcoming and feels cheap. To get to the restaurant you walk down a narrow long bar area where plenty of locals (I'm assuming) were enjoying happy hour. Loud and unwelcoming imho. We were seated in a two top which is super close to another two top. When I requested a booth in leu of the table (every booth was empty) the hostess said they were all reserved. Noting during our entire dining experience there were empty booths. Felt a little shady. Server was very sweet and great personality but unfortunately was not very fast. Every time she finally came back to the table she was apologizing for taking so long. She had other tables but wasn't in the weeds that we could see (in my youth I worked both as a server and hostess). The homemade bread we were looking forward to wasn't fresh and it was lacking taste as was the dipping oil. Adding salt and pepper helped the oil dip. Even though we were both hungry we didn't eat all the bread. That's a problem. We ordered clams as an appetizer. Again, tasteless needed salt, no flavor otherwise. For dinner, I ordered a seafood trio with Brussel sprouts. My husband ordered a fillet cooked, medium with a baked potato. The crabcake lacked flavor had way too much filling tasted like it came from Cisco. After a second bite, I would not eat anymore. The shrimp was ho hum and the lobster not that great either. My husband's steak was very bland no flavor in the meat even though it was cooked to temperature with a slight char on the outside. Because of the slow service and lack of flavor in the food we just wanted to check and get out of there as quickly as possible. What a bust for over $200. read more

We loved Frogtown so much, we went back three nights in a row! Frogtown ChopHouse is nestled within a resort called woodfield Manor in Cresco, Pennsylvania, up in the Pocono mountains. We actually were saying at Woodfield Manor, so having the restaurant right on site made it super convenient! All three nights were lovely and the waiters we had, Diego and Joey, were excellent. The only thing we didn't love was when there was live music in the bar. The guitarist was turned up really loud and we were seated close to the bar area the night he was there. Frogtown is really popular, so I would advise making a reservation. They have a bar and then a separate room for the restaurant. The bar does get loud when there's live music, but they don't have live music in there every night. The ambiance of the restaurant is rustic and cozily classic. It has dark wood and subdued light in the main dining room, and then there's a separate room that's a little more lit with windows all around. They have a nice assortment of steaks. The first night I ordered the filet and my mom got the pork chop. The pork chop is to die for, I would very highly recommend it! It was cooked perfectly, so juicy, and was also a very generous portion. Another menu item I would highly recommend is the bacon mac and cheese, the goat cheese bread bowl, the wedge salad (they have a blue cheese dressing that's made in-house!), and the crispy duck. The wedge salad, while it was delicious and we loved the dressing, was a little too heavily dressed for me. If you like lighter amounts of dressing on salads, I would recommend ordering the dressing on the side. The service and the timing of the food were all exceptional at Frogtown Chophouse. The staff kindly split all of the items that my mom and I planned to share. We had a lovely dining experience every night we were there. Bartender needs a lesson in being nice to people. It was like we were a bother when we ordered drinks. Food was horrendous. Massive servings of Bread, Sauce, Chips, but what we ordered was buried amongst them. Chicken wings were flavorless (dry rub), Bar fries were swimming in a sea of cheese sauce that was salty with the bacon bits. Prices are high and not worth it for subpar food. The shining star was our cheerful and accommodating waitress who was a light in a darkly lit room. My husband and I were nauseous all night and the exit wasn't pretty. Came in for dinner without a reservation and was quickly seated. Waitress was attentive. We ordered the shortrib (in the dry side) -- skip, filet mignon, just ok... but the ribeye was cooked to perfection. The garlic mushrooms were really good but the green beans were awful. We didnt touch it really. It was overcooked, and unsalted. The crab cakes and calamari are both must orders and super delicious, the Cesar and house salads were both great and fresh. The Cesar dressing was heavy on the anchovies and super thick and creamy. I loved it. the clams were so small, I could barely taste it but the flavor or sauce was good. The bacon was good too. The gratuity was automated at 20% -- the food was 50% delicious and 50% subpar.. the service made up for the subpar food I guess. The space is dark and very typical American steakhouse. We were staying at Great Wolf Lodge and wanted good food. After an extension search this place popped up as a good restaurant and it really delivered! I called in advance to make sure it was OK to come with a 2 and 4 year old and they were happy to accommodate. It's def better with some older kiddos but thankfully mine behaved. The food was delicious! We had steak, pork chop, a burger and kids chicken finger and fries plus a were salad. Everything was so good! My Dad and I also did the Sunday "date night" special which was $60 for an app, 2 mains and dessert. Such a great deal! We will DEF be back next time we are in the area. Gosh, this place has really fallen from my stellar 5 star review, and our dining-in experience was such a disappointment, that we were looking forward to eating here our whole vacation. Needless to say, we were one and done sadly, and are even questioning to come back next year. As I mentioned in my previous review, you need to make reservations, even on a Thursday evening, which might seem strange, but we did. We booked for 5:45PM, and were seated in the back next to the fire place. Prior to looking at the food, we ordered drinks right away - my husband's beloved rum punch, and I wanted to get the Pilot. They were out of apple cider to make my pilot drink, so I had to get the Rosy's Lemonade. My husband's rum punch didn't have the same great taste that he was looking for, and the lemonade was good, but not enough to get a second. When we ordered dinner, we noticed the table next to us got a complimentary appetizer, which we weren't offered. Nor was the table next to us offered. Not sure why, but we have always been offered a free appetizer in the past; kinda awkward to serve some and not all. When dinner arrived, my husband and I ordered from the Cuts portion of the menu, and he wanted to get the skirt steak with his blue cheese dressing, and I wanted to try the pork chop with the shrimp imperial (+$9) on top. When my pork chop came out, it looked like a slightly large chicken leg. If it wasn't for the shrimp I added on top, the plate would've looked pitiful with no free sides on the side. The pork chop was great, but it was just so small that for the price, it was insulting. Again, like years past, they would have a string bean or some kind of veggie on the side. Nope - if you ordered from the Cuts of meat, that's all you got - just meat and nothing more. My husband's steak was also cooked wrong. As many other Yelpers already said, whoever their chef is, they don't know how to cook their meat. My husband wanted medium to medium well, and it was raw in the middle; bloody. He refused to send it back, and I had to watch him struggle to try to cut the meat. It was a fatty, grizzly piece of meat that further proved the quality had taken a backseat. He mostly ate the additional sides we ordered - the cream of spinach and the potatoes au gratin. Those were decent at least. I knew we were in trouble when the gem of the night was their chocolate hazelnut cake. It was the only saving grace of the whole night. For $150+ when the bill came, it was like a sucker punch in the gut. We will more than likely skip here next year, which is a real shame. PLEASE - go back to how things were! read more

Thanksgiving takeout was quite a disappointment both in quality and quantity, two stars only because it wasn't super expensive.

So disappointing. When it first opened it was great. But now it's so disappointing. Puny salads that Perkins puts to shame and unimaginative sides. Whoever is in charge of this place is lazy and does not love food. And it's expensive. We need some good places to eat around here. We arrived right on time and were immediately seated then proceeded to sit at our table for nearly an hour before our server was over to take our drink orders. Mind you at this time it was not that busy, granted it did get a little more busy. We waited nearly another hour for our food to come out. My grandmother order chicken parm, that came out burnt to a crisp with damn near 0 sauce on it. Then came me, my father and my mother's burgers again BURNT. Not to mention there was a singular piece of lettuce and a strand of onion on them. My brother and sister ordered steaks, they came out completely wrong and wayyyy over done. I also ordered the maple sriracha Brussels sprouts with bacon, which were out of this world. The portion sizes were generous, making it easy to take home leftovers for a second helping the next day. Dessert was the bread pudding with caramel butter topping, a decadent finish that left us completely satisfied, and the dark chocolate sea salt frogs that came with our bill were such a thoughtful, personalized touch; little details like that make memories. As parents of three, nights out are rare, and indulgence like this is even rarer. This was truly a night to remember. Even as a local for 19 years, I'm embarrassed it took us this long to visit, but I can now say with confidence...we will be back. We had a reservation and requested for enough space where we could have a baby stroller. The atmosphere is on the darker side and the party room was very noisy so we couldn't hear too much. I'd say bring those headphones that block out noises for babies/toddlers just in case and heads up no changing table for babies so be prepared. We ordered two appetizers, the pork belly and the chili cheese fries. The pork belly was very good, the fries I felt did not have enough chili and was underwhelming. I had a steak with chimichurri, the chimichurri was on the salty side as well as the side of mushrooms. The Brussel sprouts were on the burnt but it was decent. The burger came with a beer, that dish was good, my husband enjoyed it. The waitress was very attentive to our needs and I think this is the only steakhouse that asked us to cut into the middle of our steak to make sure we are satisfied how cooked our steak was. Overall I'd come back but will definitely try a different sauce with the steak as well as different appetizers. I didn't know they spread the chimichurri on top of the steak. I'm use to the sauce being on the side so I can dip my steak in. If you don't like the sauce spread on top, make sure to ask for the sauce on the side. Where do I start!!!! Well, I guess that would be when l walked through the hard to find front door. The first person I met, the bartender, looked up from something she was doing behind the bar and said,"what do you want"? Not"hello" or " first time here"? Then she said as I pulled out a stool to sit "you can't sit there, that is the favorite chair of a regular who will be here soon". Oh, just for whomever's reading this, she had tattoos all over her chest. Well, enough about the lack of couth. next..... the food (if you could call it that), the menu had a semblance of bar food with high prices! We got some French fries that were covered with a horrible white sauce.....did I mention the fries were horrible? then we went into the main dining room. Everything on the menu was priced like we were eating at a great restaurant, which it isn't!!!!! For instance, the 8oz. Filet Mignon is 60 dollars!! but hey, it was "Wet Aged"....that could have meant it had been left out in the woods for a few days in the rain! Anyway, before I could make a choice from the menu, I started feeling sick from the French Fries or whatever was poured on them. It was the worst food I had ever eaten in Monroe County!!!!!!!!! Oh....The server that took care of us (WE were at a table with 8 other people) was very nice, with a wonderful personality. I really enjoyed this place. It seems reservations are a must even for what is a sleepy time of year. Sitting at the high tops near the bar worked as a backup plan for coming in without one on Friday night in November. The service was fabulous, and the place was very cozy... Warm, but not uncomfortably so, with a fireplace in the room adding to the overall ambience of the place. I had a soup special to start, which was great. The Salmon Fillet with ancho chili rub and lime paired with vegetables and a side of wild rice was nearly perfect. Food is fantastic, CJ our server was attentive and gave great recommendations, we were lucky enough to be sat by the fireplace which was lovely. This is the best steakhouse in the entire Pocono area. Such a fantastic experience all around. Made a reservation a month or two in advance to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Called a few days ahead to confirm and was told we'd be seated in front of the fireplace. Arrived and shown to our table, through the bar into the main dining room, a 4-top off-center from the fireplace. It was perfect for us. Cheryle took great care of us, sharing the specials and then giving ample time to review the wine/drink menu and place an appetizer order. We opted for shrimp cocktail. Would've liked them to be the next size up, but still a good value. Entrees were NY Strip Steak (medium rare) with red skinned potatoes and 1/2 blistered tomato and Salmon Filet with rice pilaf and lemon parm green beans. We shared a side of garlic mushrooms. Everything came out as expected. The mushrooms were extra tasty! We wrapped up dinner with a yummy chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. Desserts change nightly. As luck would have it, our server Cheryle is also the pastry chef! We saw many types of diners - couples, groups of gals, groups of guys, families with children. It really is a place for everyone and every occasion. We did notice the noise level was a tad high, but we were still able to talk without issue. The food was decent. The steak was really amazing. The crab cakes had a good flavor but it was not jumbo lump. The meal comes with bread. I didn't care for the bread too much. The service was ok my waiter was training another waitress. The ambiance was laid back and not to far from where we was staying. The bar was chill and a nice size. You can't park directly in the front of the building. Either across the street or in the back. I would go back for the steak it melts in your mouth. read more
