Before the new school year begins in August please beware:…read more I strongly encourage anyone considering instrument rentals through Music & Arts to read all of the contract fine print very carefully before signing. Over the years, we rented a violin for my daughter while she took lessons for approximately 1.5 years and accumulated nearly $500 in rental credit. Later, we also rented a saxophone and accumulated approximately $700 in rental credit. Unfortunately, when it came time to upgrade to higher-quality instruments, we learned that only a portion of the accumulated credit could be applied toward the purchase of a more advanced instrument. In both cases, only about half of the earned credit was eligible to be used. We were also disappointed to learn that rental credits must generally be used toward the same type of instrument, which significantly limits flexibility for families with children who change instruments or advance into different programs. The biggest frustration was the lack of clear communication regarding these restrictions during the rental process. While the details may be included in the contract, the practical limitations were not made obvious, and the customer service experience when trying to resolve our concerns was extremely disappointing. Based on our experience, I would recommend that families carefully compare school-affiliated rental programs and other local options before committing to a long-term rental agreement. What initially appeared to be a valuable credit program ultimately provided far less benefit than we expected.

I finally found someone who looked like they weren't busy and asked about the instrument I was there to purchase. He told me they don't carry that particular item (despite the fact that they show it on their website) and that he could order one and have it for me next week. Why? I can order from amazon and have it within a day or two. And, they'd deliver it right to my door. I'd never go back there.
