Nice experience but overcharged. Cost $62 to fill two 20# tanks. Assuming 4.7 gallons per tank that works out to $6.60 a gallon. Going price in Virginia on the day was $3.415. I'll go elsewhere next time. read more

Had an in ground 500 gallon propane tank go dry (just wasn't paying enough attention) on SuperBowl Sunday. The only use of the propane was for gas HVAC and generator. Big problem in February two days before a major winter storm. I called suburban, southern states, and others and all of them used a call back service and none of them even bothered to call back. Chris at Fairfax Propane picked up the phone on a Sunday AM and worked me in to get us some to take us to spring 1 hour before kickoff. I'm saved!!! I'm not sure how competitive Fairfax Propane per gallon cost are compared to others in the area but if you are looking for a propane supplier that cares about their customers and community give them a try. I'll be switching to them for sure. read more

I can't say enough good things about fairfax propane Jim immediately solved a propane hose issue for me that I'd messed with for days I had ordered a hose online w connectors I needed --they looked good but they did not work when I actually tried them I Had taken hose to another place in the area with no successful solution. No one does this these days Jim stopped the work he was doing when I came in this morning, tested to verify cause of problem, and then rebuilt my online-purchased hose w a good quick connect fitting Tested It for me and took my $20 ("unfortunately this is going to be expensive. It's a top quality fitting," he'd said--ha! I wish I could give this place 10 starts. I also have an old Weber with the old style tank and he always fills my tank with a smile. I almost gave up on my tank and he educated me on why I should keep my grill and it's old style tank. He told me how the new Weber grills are not as good as the one I bought. 17 years later, I still have the same Weber grill that I bought there. Although our grill still works, we will probably buy a new grill this summer and we will go to Fairfax Propane again to buy our grill. As long as this place exists, I will never go anywhere else to get propane or a grill. read more

I called Fairfax propane this morning they told me it's $3 a gallon for propane so I sent my mother up there with my hundred pound propane tank and ask her to get eight gallons she told them to put eight gallons in and they filled it up completely and they laid it on side which is very very unsafe and they charge me $5 a gallon I called him when I found out it was $5 a gallon and ask them why is it thought I was gone when last time I paid $3 a gallon it was it on a vehicle last time and I said yes why should that make a difference so they're there to rip you off so I say don't go to Fairfax propane anymore cuz there to rip people off they tell him one price and changed it when you get there read more

I have used this place for years. It cannot be easier to fill tanks - just drive to the back, and they come out and fill your tank very quickly and at a reasonable price. They have also helped me keep my Weber grill achieving peak performance for over 20 years as they have all the necessary replacement parts at a better price (and in stock) than the big box competitors. The guy may seem a little crotchety, but who goes to a propane shop to be charmed? Anyway, I have never been disappointed with the advice or the products. a bunch of liars and crooks! had my 2 tanks disconnected and sat aside back in october 2021. after repeated calls to come get them, fairfax has yet to do so. keep getting excuses why they can't come and get their ugly tanks. they will rip you off on their prices. go to griffith oil. they will beat fairfax propane's prices, and will give you great service. they can be trusted.... but fairfax propane does nothing but lie and rip you off. i don't even give them one star (but had to to get this review posted)..... minus 10 stars is a better rating! read more

This place is great. Don't be misled by the looks. First-class service and completely honest. If you're tired of being ripped off by Blue Rhino and Home Depot's Amerigas exchange services, then definitely come here. Dollar-for-dollar you are getting a good deal from Fairfax Propane. While I was there, the person helping me got a phone call. From what I overheard, it sounded like the caller was inquiring to buy a replacement part for a burner or barbeque. The person helping me told the caller "let me call you back - I think I might know what your problem is and you probably don't need to buy anything." Helpful, not pushing parts/sales. Exactly what I would hope to get if I was the caller. Also, FYI, don't rely on emailing Fairfax Propane if you need information - email is not handled by the person in the store. Call or stop by and you'll be well served. Finally, there's a review here on Yelp from Steve M. giving the place 1 star. I find it interesting that, when likely anywhere else he would have gone would *not* have had what he wanted, he's giving this place 1 star. From the review, it sounds like he would have given this place a better rating if he got coddled but didn't get propane ahead of the storm. Fairfax Propane is old school - doing the job right and for a fair and honest price. I would prefer to get what I want, not get ripped off, and not get bent out of shape over the personality of the person from whom I'm asking for help. read more

These guys told me they'd check inventories once a year and when in the neighborhood. Well, we ran out again, and this time the guy told me they only come when you call them and they might just come pull the tanks because they own them and we're not a good customer. Nice for Sunday morning breakfast with the kids. Definitely beware and find alternatives. read more

We will NEVER, EVER in a million years do business with Fairfax Propane again. We've been trading with this cluttered, industrial-accident-waiting-to-happen joint for years and over those years we've dropped several thousand $ on LNG, grill parts, and a new high-end$$ grill. Yah, the old chap is a little salty and rough around the edges, but we've always tolerated the gruff and rude dude and went on our way. Problems began when a major warranty issue left the $$grill inoperable. "All covered by the manufacturer," he says, "let me take care of this." It was February and obviously not grilling season, so no worries, right? Well, after four full months of inaction on his part (which included 4 visits by me to his shop to inquire on the status!) resulted in me having to directly intervene and call both the distributor and manufacturer, file the warranty paperwork that the dealer is required to file, and resolve the issue myself. Manufacture and distributor are professionals and they cheerfully resolve the issue in a matter of days. But it gets better. There is a shipping snafu between Fairfax Propane and distributor or manufacture and only half the $$grill parts arrive. I'm happy we're finally making progress and call out to Mr. Nimcompoop and he says he needs to call the dealer and manufacture and straighten a shipping order. Then he launches into me, yelling that he's "f@#cking overworked" and that "f@#ckers like me need to leave him the hell alone!" Huh? After all this I was stunned, just stunned. I called the manufacturer and and had them drop ship the remaining parts to my home (this they also did cheerfully and without delay). Five months door to door, the problem is fixed and $$grill works great. However, as long as I live, I will never spend another dime with Fairfax Propane. Never ever. read more

Interesting experience buying propane here the day before Hurricane Sandy arrived. The man filling gas tanks was yelling at customers bringing more than one tank, grumbling the entire time about how busy he'd been all day. The term customer service was apparently nowhere in his vocabulary. This guy is the Soup Nazi of the gas industry. The building the business occupies looked like someplace featured on the reality TV show Buried Alive about hoarders. The only redeeming thing about the place was the fact that they still had gas when most others were sold out. read more

I came in for a small tank refill for my Weber Performer. I wish that I would have met Jim long ago, I have been dreading filling this older specialized tank, and Jim knew all about it! Can thank him enough. Anyone looking at ditching or retrofitting their Weber Performer Grill needs to talk to him first! The only way I found him though was a referral from Airgas in Alexandria. I have a nice grill I got from Costco (made in China), and none of the big box stores had parts for the ones that disintegrated after a few years service. Fairfax Propane was able to match the parts exactly, and the price was fair. The shop was not air conditioned, and didn't have a warehouse layout like a BMW parts dealer, but it reminded me of the small hardware store where the owner can lay their hands on everything. Definitely a small, low-overhead business, but they are now my go-to source for obscure parts and competent advice. read more
