Love this place. I live in Charlotte and happened to be traveling through Fort Mill early one Sunday morning. I found this place thanks to Yelp and it lives up to the 5 star rating. Great service, atmosphere, and located in the middle of downtown Fort Mill. Small town charm with a lot of flavor (See what I did there?) My mom and I visited this place for the first time yesterday together. We were intrigued by the art outside and it did not disappoint when we went in! The beautiful art continued to impress us and it was decorated beautifully. What was disappointing is we weren't greeted upon walking in, we weren't even acknowledged when we went to the counter by the barista. She seemed annoyed we were there, interrupting her convo with her friends at the bar area. I asked what her favorite drink was from the menu and she sort of just looked at me like I was crazy and answered me like I was boring her. I ordered a chai latte since she said it was her fave, I got it iced. It was good. My mom got an iced London fog, it just tasted like milk with ice. So she added honey and cinnamon and it did help it out a bit. Overall, the place itself was pretty and interesting, I'm hoping maybe it was just an off day for the barista working yesterday, and we hope other customers are treated in a nicer way in the future. I felt right at home, the staff were friendly and helpful/ I love that they're not just a coffee place but also an art gallery and a place to take pottery classes. I LOVE Olive's! I have taken classes at a few different studios, and each one left me a little disappointed. Olive's does not disappoint. I've been taking classes at Olive's Mud Puddle for a few years now, and I couldn't be happier. The atmosphere creates a wonderful, sharing, creative, and joyful flow. The owner/teacher is so talented and always willing to share her creativity and ideas to help us better our skills. There is a waiting list, but it is worth the wait. There are 2-3 classes each day given by a variety of teachers. There is also plenty of open studio time, so you can come in and play in the mud whenever the shop is open. As is the case for any handmade pottery studio, there are a few steps to creating your pieces, but the time spent is worth it. In addition to the pottery studio in the back, there is an adorable coffee shop/art gallery in the front. They have music bingo and various musical entertainment events on different nights. I love working in the back studio on Friday or Saturday nights while a musician or group performs up front in the coffee shop. It creates such great energy for creating. As a side note, I want to point out the amazing review record for Olive's. Their record is what finalized my decision to go to Olive's. They have only two 1-star reviews out of all their reviews. One was an unusual circumstance, which the owner immediately addressed and corrected. The other was from a student with hard-to-satisfy expectations. When I see a 1-star review for an establishment, I always click on the reviewer to see what their average ratings are. I followed the same process here. As is often the case, the reviewer had only given 1-star ratings in all their reviews. I have made lifelong friends at Olive's and it will always have a special place in my heart. read more

Embarrassed it has taken me 7 years to visit this cute downtown coffee shop/store. I have a sensitive nose, so upon entering it was an antiqueyesque (new word, Webster!) aroma but I quickly acclimated. The barista was very sweet and helpful. The food options are very limited but I did like they had scones from local Breadsmith. I ordered the special pumpkin butter latte as it was a less sweet choice for the seasonal selections. I didn't love it and will have to try another drink next time. I throughly enjoyed sitting outside on Main Street. Inside, seating is limited and for small parties. NOTE: This review is for the Espresso Brain Freeze only as it was the only thing I had here. When I asked the barista what it was they basically said it was an espresso frappé. It was hot and I needed a caffeine fix and figured priced at $5.95 it would be amazing! I was wrong...I don't know what the guy working the coffee bar made me, but it definitely did not have any espresso and it most certainly was not worth $7 and change(w/tax & tip). There was not any sort of coffee in it and honestly it just tasted like condensed milk that was blended w/ice. I was going to ask the guy to remake it or at least add an actual shot of espresso, but there was a line that was 3 people deep by the time I walked back in. Ended up tossing it as it was undrinkable. Complete waste of money! Came in because it was the cutest little store and I luv supporting local, but after this experience left a literal bad taste in my mouth, cannot rec this particular drink here. read more

I stopped in for coffee on a Monday morning. It was very quiet and they had some good coffee and espresso selections. I got the bold roast drip which was OK. They had a few muffins, scones and pastries. This place is like a hands-on art exploration place, curio and gift shop all combined. Stopped in yesterday during Fort Mill's Oktoberfest celebration to try it out and I was super impressed. It was getting pretty warm so I was looking for a nice cool drink, something dairy free and glad they had plenty of options. It's always nice to see small, locally run businesses who have a wide variety of options for everyone. I got a medium iced chai with almond milk and a shot of vanilla. I can honestly say, it tasted amazing! My only complaint about it would be there was just a bit too much ice to beverage and it was gone way too fast (I mean, I admittedly will inhale a good chai any day). Note to self: ask for less ice next time. Overall, I'm really glad I stopped in, though, I honestly wasn't expecting such a lovely shop inside. It's cozy, well appointed with seating and lovely local art work. When my husband runs into town next time for a haircut and asks me to come with now I know I have a place to chill and relax while enjoying a nice beverage. This is another little gem in Downtown Fort Mill. The place is an art studio, gift shop and a coffee "shop". Big wooden tables for guests as well as a chess board on one of the tables. Coffee varieties at a minimal but everyone in my group enjoyed theirs although our friends tea water was not hot and he drank it warm. One can mill around and see unique pottery gifts, small selection of jewelry, soaps, art work etc.in the shop The atmosphere was relaxing, the staff friendly. Such a cute coffee shop! The windows are decorated and upon entering there's local arts adorning all the shelves in which you can purchase. There's even a piano and a small corner for kids with some games. Another fun thing that they have here is arts and crafts classes in the back. Staff is friendly and there's plenty of great coffee and tea to choose from. They even sold beer and wine that I saw in addition to some snacks. Could not love this place more. I started taking pottery wheel classes 18 months ago, and immediately was hooked. Far from where they are packaged - we were impressed by its dark, crunchy, rustic, nutty coffee flavor. I entered the Olive's Mud Puddle Wednesday evening Wheel pottery class for the month of June. I assumed that my last June class would be the last Wednesday of June. I eventually realized that after each class I noticed my pieces had not either dried or been fired. But during my 2nd & 3rd class I knew something was wrong. Closer to the end of my month long program I began to glaze some pieces of pottery from my first class, and really not sure at this time how I was going to complete all of my remaining pieces. An announcement was made that if we had not completed all of our pottery pieces we were allowed only one more session to complete the glazing. The issue now was that not everything had been fired so that meant not only glazing had to be completed but so did the last firing. Another announcement was made about the 4th of July closing of the studio & there would be no classes, and that now puts me clear into the middle July to either finish glazing and or picking up any pieces that remained. Clearly there are issues with the kiln, drying time, and proper time to glaze pieces. I saw a shortage of shelf space, and also missing pieces at times. I found my class to be rushed, confusing, and unorganized. I feel at registration I should have been told of the upcoming closing for the 4th of July week as the studio was closed & I would not be able to finish my remaining pieces at that time. I still have 3 pieces that have not dried and are awaiting the kiln shelf to fill before that firing will occur. I have yet to glaze them, and then they will need to be fired again. I was unaware of the fact that I will be finishing my pottery in the middle of July as I have other obligations. I am disappointed with this studio for the various reasons I have noted and will not return. I hope this will enlighten future students regarding this studio. read more

The atmosphere is adorable; a sort of fun and whimsical vibe from the various sculptures made by local artists and a relaxed one from the general mood of the place and the antique pieces they have displayed. Be sure to always keep a lookout for what's on display in the Mud Puddle - sometimes they have curious items you can purchase for yourself! One time I got a shiitake mushroom log, and it's been my little farm for them for almost a year now. Doing a review of olives mud puddle as a whole would be like trying to review all the Star Wars movies in one try... so I'm going to just review the food stuffs and general ambience. The place is charming and warm. Very inviting and just sucks you right in. There is art tastefully placed everywhere for sale. And the seating and decor is rustic and eye catching. I can see myself sitting here for a couple hours and working comfortably. On to the coffee. Wow. Just wow. It is sensational. If you like brewed coffee, they have easily the best light roast coffee I've ever tasted. And I don't say this lightly. I love Starbucks coffee. I like custom roasts and local roasts. I'm pretty picky. But this coffee is amazing. Don't miss it. The espresso drinks are delicious too. Macchiatos and mochas etc. I find myself visiting twice a day.
