Menu #1 Appetizers, Nachos, Quesadillas, Chimichangas, Soup and Salad

Mexican Connection has been one of Dothan's favorite Mexican spots since 1984. I know it has changed locations once as it was on 231 across from UPS but is now on 84 close to South Brannon and Flowers Hospital. The atmosphere definitely has the Mexican flair. First of all, I do not know what Mexican Connextion does to their salsa, but it is different and addictive. It has the chill tomato-onion flavor but there is some kind of spice added to it to make it stand out. But on the menu, there is a note that the first one is complimentary. So that makes me think they might charge you for more but I haven't been charged so I am confused. Either way, I am glad they have not charged me. My favorite menu item is the chimichanga. It is a fried tortilla folded and topped with queso and a red sauce. It is stuffed with Juan's famous seasoning, sauteed onions, and cheese. Guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and black olives are on the side. What sets it apart from other chimichangas is the special seasoning they add to their meat. I have also had the Burrito Supreme. It is a huge burrito stuffed or topped with all the works. It runs for at least $11.75, which is expensive for a burrito compared to others. But it is worth a bite. Sweet tea is refreshingly, sweet and freshly brewed! The only other item I would like to note is that there is a fee for using a card here. And there is a note that says that if you dont like it, pay with cash. This is really the only reason I am not giving Mexican connection a 5. What I understand about the law is that restaurants can charge you for running your credit card because it is a service and they have to pay a fee for running a credit card. But it is against the law to pay a fee for using a debit card. Most likely though, they will run your debit card as credit anyway. I havent lived in Dothan in 10 years before this year. This is I know the 2nd restaurant in the area that has charged me for paying with a card. This might be an epidemic in Dothan compared to other places I have lived like Birmingham and New Orleans, or even traveling.

Location- location- location This restaurant is located on a busy highway near several neighborhoods- it is always busy- we decided to give it a try since it was close to the house. It was a Tuesday so they had taco Tuesday specials. The tacos supreme was a double taco with hard and soft shells both. They were tasty. I had the burrito supreme, it was large. Definitely not my favorite Mexican restaurant in town, but I would go back. The salsa was homemade, but it tasted like mostly ketchup.

I always describe the Mexican Connection as a completely Americanized Mexican restaurant. I can't help but to love the food each time I go. It never disappoints. No, I do not go here when I desire a more authentic Mexican experience in the area (I have my place for that), but when I want a more "comfort food" style on top of an Americanized Mexican twist. The people are always nice and I always leave full and happy.

I heard good things about this place but was very dissatisfied. For starters the waitress smarted off to me after asking her to take my drink order. Also the place absolutely reeks of cigarettes mixed with like gross old grease smell. The salsa taste like canned diced tomatoes and the quac is $5.50. I can say they were very quick and organized which is appreciative. I think the most shocking thing was the amount of grease on the food. The rice was drenched in grease my friends were attempting to get it all out but it just kept coming. Also the air conditioner leaked on me I literally got wet.

This stuff they call salsa. Science project at best.

Salsa tastes like watery tomato paste with chunks of green onions floating in it. Literally the stuff on the shelf at the grocery that's been sitting for a year is better than this. I can't understand for the life of me why this place stays busy. I was talked into coming and so my meal (using that term loosely) is free...

Not the best Mexican restaurant I've been to but it was alright. I got the bean enchilada and my husband got the steak nachos. His nachos were pretty small for being $10.50 my bean enchilada was rather small for being almost $5. They are a little pricey for what you get in my opinion. Restaurant was small in size and seemed a little cluttered. The seats were torn up which hurt my legs. Our waitress was great though, she made the experience a little better.

Excellent tex-mex type food with amazing supreme tacos, enchiladas, and churros. The waitresses are absolutely the sweetest & best in town!

Possibly the worst fajitas I have ever eaten. Chips, salsa, and tortillas were all store bought. Taco Bell is more authentic!

I had the cheese bites. They were so good. The staff is very friendly. I liked the bigger place on 231. I can't wait to go back.

I tried asking what region of Mexico were the dishes inspired by. In reviewing the menu I was confused, there was a very small selection of traditional Mexican dishes. Where was the Chili Verde, Carnitas, Birria, Pozole, Lengua, Chili Colorado, Tamales, Tostadas, just to name a few. I ended up getting the Chicken enchiladas with green sauce, cheese, cream and fresh onions and beans on the side. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed. My order came out and the enchiladas were actually Cold!!! Sent it back, when the order came back out they were hot. They had very little green sauce, lightly sprinkled cheese on top, none inside and cream and onion also on top. The chicken was shredded with a red color. I have to say that, because there was no sauce in the meat it was dry and I felt, it did not have flavor. The beans were actually not bad, I ate those with the chips. There were several groups of people in the restaurant enjoying themselves and appeared to be enjoying the food as well. However I feel if you want traditional Mexican food, like you would get in Baja region this is definitely NOT the place to go.
