Hostess was very unfriendly but our waitress and the rest of the staff were very nice. Food was good but expensive ($10 for a single relleno, $10 for two tacos, both with no sides). Even the happy hour prices are high with most things only $1 off the regular price. The few combo meals they had were around $20, which is considerably more for the same combos at other Mexican restaurants. I've always loved MC. Used to go way back when it was at its original spot on Hwy 231. The location where it is at now seems outdated, needs remodeling and the air conditioner may or may not work. The staff is always friendly and makes you feel welcomed. The food at times is questionable. Most times, it is cold, the rice seems sticky like it's been under the heat lamp to long, the taco meat is not hot-doesn't even melt the cheese. Mexican Connection has been one of Dothan's favorite Mexican spots since 1984. I know it has changed locations once as it was on 231 across from UPS but is now on 84 close to South Brannon and Flowers Hospital. The atmosphere definitely has the Mexican flair. First of all, I do not know what Mexican Connextion does to their salsa, but it is different and addictive. It has the chill tomato-onion flavor but there is some kind of spice added to it to make it stand out. But on the menu, there is a note that the first one is complimentary. So that makes me think they might charge you for more but I haven't been charged so I am confused. Either way, I am glad they have not charged me. My favorite menu item is the chimichanga. It is a fried tortilla folded and topped with queso and a red sauce. It is stuffed with Juan's famous seasoning, sauteed onions, and cheese. Guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and black olives are on the side. What sets it apart from other chimichangas is the special seasoning they add to their meat. I have also had the Burrito Supreme. It is a huge burrito stuffed or topped with all the works. It runs for at least $11.75, which is expensive for a burrito compared to others. But it is worth a bite. Sweet tea is refreshingly, sweet and freshly brewed! The only other item I would like to note is that there is a fee for using a card here. And there is a note that says that if you dont like it, pay with cash. This is really the only reason I am not giving Mexican connection a 5. What I understand about the law is that restaurants can charge you for running your credit card because it is a service and they have to pay a fee for running a credit card. But it is against the law to pay a fee for using a debit card. Most likely though, they will run your debit card as credit anyway. I havent lived in Dothan in 10 years before this year. This is I know the 2nd restaurant in the area that has charged me for paying with a card. This might be an epidemic in Dothan compared to other places I have lived like Birmingham and New Orleans, or even traveling. read more

Location- location- location This restaurant is located on a busy highway near several neighborhoods- it is always busy- we decided to give it a try since it was close to the house. It was a Tuesday so they had taco Tuesday specials. The tacos supreme was a double taco with hard and soft shells both. They were tasty. I had the burrito supreme, it was large. This has been one of the worst restaurants that I have been to in my 16 years living in the Wiregrass. The only thing "Mexican" about it is the racist trope that they use to decorate the place! When the chips & salsa are the BEST thing on your menu, U are not doing something right! Their new hours are supposedly until 1930. I tried calling in an order @ 1845 & the phone was busy. I heard good things about this place but was very dissatisfied. For starters the waitress smarted off to me after asking her to take my drink order. Also the place absolutely reeks of cigarettes mixed with like gross old grease smell. The salsa taste like canned diced tomatoes and the quac is $5.50. I can say they were very quick and organized which is appreciative. I think the most shocking thing was the amount of grease on the food. I'm 16, I understand the bias of teenagers not tipping but that shouldn't mean bad service! I tipped my server Sue $20 on a $45 check, to remind her that even if she thought I wouldn't tip, I still deserve good service. The cheese dip and salsa tasted out of a can, cheese dip was way too salty and had no flavor besides just cheese. My server talked to every other table beside us and only came to take our order and give us our check, she didn't even deliver our food. I had been craving Mexican food & decided to come here with my husband. As soon as you walk in it smells like cigarettes, which is super unpleasant. Our waitress was very sweet. I was hopeful about the food. The chips & salsa were alright. Salsa was plain and was just barely seasoned tomato sauce. Husband and I ordered the same enchilada plate. Right off the bat I noticed a weird smell coming from my plate. Smelled like old wet dishes/towel. I literally smelled my plate before taking the smallest bite... My plate was absolutely horrible. His nachos were pretty small for being $10.50 my bean enchilada was rather small for being almost $5. They are a little pricey for what you get in my opinion. I'm struggling to give it 3 stars. It could easily be less. A $4 margarita that they charge $7 for. Its small. Bland tomatoie mild salsa. Flavorless chicken in the tacos. Enchiladas with so much cheese on top that you could make another cheese enchilada from it. Beans dry and crunchy from the cheese being broiled on top of it. Fair is probably fair. Not a lot to get excited about. Seafood quesadilla had that pink fake crabmeat, and a lot of cheese. It was hot and pretty good, as the cheese handily drowned out the fake 'seafood'. One hour from the coast should prolly have shrimp. Tacos were also fair, with good flavor to the meat. My mother-in-law and I thought that this restaurant would be nice place to have lunch at due to its Fiesta Hour menu. We were shocked to see that it's basically ran by non Hispanic people. We ordered the $4.00 lime margarita and it came on the rocks with green olive and lime in it. That was a first(a margarita with a green olive in it). I ordered Sangria that was the cheap store bought Sangria that comes in a huge jug. Nothing authentic about the drinks. My Mother ordered the chicken nachos. That was a disaster on a plate. It contained dry fried flour tortillas, boiled chicken with no seasoning and about 3 pounds of melted cheddar cheese. Definitely not the typical nachos. I had 2 beef tacos with a store bought crispy taco shell. You know the kind you by from the grocery store? The beef was fluffy and bland. Nothing authentic about the tacos either. Now for the chips and salsa..... I think it was Pace Picante but definitely store bought. I think they aim to cater to a diabetic Caucasian palette which isn't a good representation of "Authentic Mexican Food" this restaurant was a straight waste of my boyfriends money. Just left here ..with my dine in items to go We sat and ordered ..we got the fried jalapeño peppers my friend ordered a chalupa ..I ordered two beef taco supreme.. my friend was on lunch break so we didn't have that much time ....Tacos and chalupa shouldn't take too much time to make with pre-cooked taco meats right?....wrong ...We waited and waited ..30 mins after ordering.. the appetizer came out ..we kept waiting and waiting ..10 mins before she was due back at work we asked our waitress how much longer ..she tells us "your order is almost ready ..the chalupa just takes longer in the oven to prepare".. She asked us "do you want it to go?"....which we did ...She probably didn't think we realized that all the tables around us (who sat after us)..all had their meals out and I know for sure one table who sat after us paid right after I did ..and they were able to eat their full meal inside the restaurant ..we had to take our's to go ..I just felt bad for my friend ..because she didn't even really get to eat her lunch and had to go straight back to work I'm not sure how they do their chalupa here ..but it did not look like what an authentic chalupa or an American chalupa should look like in the to go box..looked more like a taco salad with a flat tortilla at the bottom. Anyways got home ..tried my tacos ..and it wasn't anything to write home about ..I think I would have been more satisfied with Taco Bell flavor wise..I didn't even eat the 2nd taco. The salsa they make fresh is the best I've had any where and the cheese quesaddilla was fantastic. And hey, gotta mention the service there. There's two twins that work there that have been around the Dothan area serving for as long as I remember and I've been there 35 years. Thru the years, I have watched as they continued to watch as they began to charge for every little thing. .25 for a to-go cup. .25 for sour cream and now..... 3.99% for using a credit card. First time and last time eating there. Biggest mistake and a waste of money. If you have no tastes buds, then you should go. Taco Bell's dollar menu is better than theirs. Who puts green olives in a margarita? As a Mexican restaurant, or so they say, they should be able to make guacamole, however, it's the pre packaged frozen stuff. This is the first place I ever had Mexican food when I was seriously around 6 years old and I am 31 now. I am not sure if the same people still own the place now but my Mom was good friends with them I was a frequent eater :)... I am not a huge fan of meat so I would always get the bean burrito which was HUGE.
