This is my second time to stay at this hotel. I have thoroughly ended each visit. It's always clean, they're always nice and it's it's so darn cute. This is such a cute town with lots of great shops that are all walkable. I come in on a Friday, park my car and don't move it until I leave on Sunday. You can walk to everything. They have a great bar and good food. At night they lock this place up and if you want to go in or out you have to use your key. It's so quiet and the beds are very comfy so you sleep like a baby! The towels are super soft and they'll change them for you daily. I just love to come here to unwind. There's a park down the street where you can run and there's a "rock climbing" activity in an old silo close by. Lots of fun. The Midland Hotel is the nicest around and you won't regret staying a few days to relax! read more

I stayed at the Midland Hotel just one night this time going through Hico on August 26th as usual it was a pleasure staying here . Had the hotel to myself and I enjoyed the solitude. The hotel was originally built in 1896 so it has some history going for it , it was restored 8-10 years ago and is a wonderful place to stay. I going a little out of my way to stay here and visit what the locals claim was the last home of the infamous " Billy the Kid " the town itself is interesting has a couple of really nice restaurants including the hotels " Chop House " which is a great place to eat a leisurely dinner at on the weekends. The hotel itself is well managed up to date , has self check in 4 days a week which is handled well with a lockbox . Comfortable large rooms with balconies opening to both the front ( overlooking the towns downtown street ) and the rear. So call Jennifer, make a reservation and spend some time here if you're anywhere near Stephenville Texas . read more

My husband and I went here for a Sunday brunch while driving through town and were pleasantly surprised by this small town gem. I absolutely loved my fried green tomato blt. My husband enjoyed his brisket and egg entree. The croquettes were delicious too. Next time we drive through, we'll be sure to stop by again and recommend it to fellow travelers. read more

We were staying in Glen Rose at the Inn on the River. A great place to stay with fantastic food and newly added Snyder's Tavern, but I digress. We took a drive to Hico and had lunch at The Chop House inside the Midland Hotel. What great service and amazing food. You must try the house made potato chips. What's there to rave about potato chips you say?! This place just knows how do it right. Light, thin, crispy and the right seasoning! I had the burger . Cooked to perfection and they accommodated my gluten free needs. I cannot say enough about this historic hotel. The decor and detail is so inviting. The detail in the ceiling looks like wood planks perfectly lined up and really adds beauty to this stunningly beautiful building. The bar area was just remodeled during the pandemic when they had to shut down. They took out the private room and added to the bar. Smart thinking! The circular bar is just gorgeous. All the details added really make this room sharp. It's kinda like cowboy meets industrial decor. They have a really cool outdoor deck out back. We tried to take a peak at their guest rooms but due to COVID it was not permitted. No problem. The curiosity will just make it necessary to come back for a stay. We strolled around the cute town. Fun shops! Mosey on over to the Midland Hotel and The Chop House restaurant, you won't be disappointed. All that and a bag of chips is just what the doc ordered! read more

Service!!! Had a family dinner here in their private room. Asked if they could put the TCU game on their TV. They told us the DirectTv box had gone out and was mailed in for repair. However, Wes, the owner, went and took the DirectTv box off another tv climbed up on the counter and plugged in our tv so we could enjoy the game. First class service. The Midland Hotel in Hico is a treasure of a place. First, I had never heard of it. Second, I had never been to Hico. August 3 is the date for a special anniversary for me so I booked a room online after emailing asking Jenn what would be the best for our needs. I took her recommendation and booked the room. It was a beautiful room that nicely furnished. The owners of the hotel are people that love and care about their place and it shows in every room an hallway. One of the best hotel experiences I had ever had in my life. If you have a taste or fascination of historic buildings that have been restored this is the place for you. Awesome Top notch boutique hotel! From the moment you walk into the hotel you are greeted by a very welcoming staff. The hotel is beautifully decorated with a warm atmosphere. The hotel rooms are very large, beautiful, fresh & very clean. Midland hotel is in the center of Hico with lots of fun little boutique shops, a wine bar, local family friendly bar with amazing live music and local restaurants. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel as well. Hico is a fun town for a getaway. We will definitely be back for another stay real soon!!! read more

An absolute gem of a hotel, perfectly finished out. Comfortable bed, awesome patio, a nostalgic feel left meaning, even though every is new, it still feels local. My only complaint is that it is SUPER OVERPRICED. I paid almost $200 the night I stayed so I think I got swindled because because it was late when I arrived. I was only guest #2 in the hotel & the front desk person left so really still trying to figure out what the hell I paid so much for. Excellent place to stay. We stayed here with a group September 27th and 28th. The decor was exceptional as was our room. The front desk was very pleasant, courteous and helpful. I didn't read the small sign above our ac so I ended up popping a breaker . Not only was our ac was affected(sorry), but our whole zone was without air. I called down to the front, and what I thought would be a huge ordeal actually was rather funny bc I was honest and said I didn't read it until it started blinking CH 29. She immediately came upstairs. Then said oh no... I have to call my boss to find out how to fix it. 10 minutes later, we were back in business! Thank you for a wonderful stay! read more

What a fun January weekend in Hico that was topped off by a two-night stay at this little 14-room jewel! The Southern hospitality from everyone at the establishment flows as smoothly as the drinks poured at the hotel bar. A restaurant with great service and food is also a highlight here. Fun and eclectic room decor and rooms are nice and clean. Loved our stay! My husband and I had a wonderful couple of days at The Midland! We were in need of a couple of low key, relaxing days, and this beautiful place hit the spot! The location is wonderful bc we were able to pop in and out as we shopped and wandered through and around town. The customer service could not have please us more... SO welcoming and pleasant! We plan to come back for sure! The only thing that I would personally change is to have a fridge in the room, but that's just a preference. Thankful to find this Texas gem! read more

My wife and I love the Midland Hotel and Chop House, and all the staff. We have gotten to know most all the staff since we've probably eaten here 20 times and stayed at the hotel three times. The restoration and decor are excellent, I tell everyone that this is as nice as any upscale restaurant in Forth Worth. We are building a home on a ranch we purchased in 2018 and will be eating at the Chop House probably a few times a week. The hotel and restaurant puts Hico on the map! You must stay at the Midland Hotel and eat at the Chop House! read more

We made a last-minute decision to overnight in Hico after seeing the hotel and deciding the town was worth hanging around in till the next day. They had two rooms open that night: a king room was on an interior side of the large upstairs hallway and had no exterior windows. Thus, we chose a double-queen corner room with several windows, the only other available spot. First, the hotel is beautiful. The renovations are tasteful and elegant. Super-high ceilings and windows make the lobby, upstairs hallways, and rooms feel very spacious. In fact, the public spaces are so cavernous and sparsely furnished that they make a person feel isolated, despite the presence of a few chairs and tables throughout. The owners should do more to scale down the spaces, especially upstairs, and create some intimate areas for relaxing. Our room was quite large. It had a good seating area with a fold-out sofa, armchair, and coffeemaker. The main part of the room held two queen beds, one night table, an armchair, an armoire with hanging space, and a small TV. The bathroom was nicely appointed and roomy enough, although I'm surprised the owners went with a standard-size bathtub. Despite the size of the room, however, there was no room for night tables on the wall sides of each bed, leaving only the nightstand in the middle for a water cup, book, reading glasses, and a place to rest your phone. The owners should squeeze in a couple of small nightstands on the empty side of each bed. It would also be good to make the electric outlets more accessible, as many new hotels do these days. Pros: the beds were firm and even, the bedding was plentiful, and there were four pillows per bed. The thermostat and ceiling fan kept the room comfortable. Hot water did not run out after two showers, and the bath towels were big and fluffy. The wifi was strong but required no password; I hope it was on a secure router. Cons: as mentioned, the only nightstand was between the two beds, and it was a tight squeeze even to walk on the outer sides of each bed. The owners could place a smaller table in the middle in order to leave room for a small table and more walking space on each side. The thin shades on the huge windows hardly blocked out any light. The TV was way too small -- maybe 24 inches -- to watch comfortably from bed, and you'd have to move the armchairs to sit closer to it. A hotel of this calibre and a room this large should have a larger TV. The cable package was huge -- too huge, as it included several channels with "adult" content. I thought good hotels stopped that nonsense years ago; this is certainly not family friendly. The bathroom lacked water cups; we had to use coffee cups that were found next to the coffeemaker. And let's just go ahead and say this: the toilet paper was the flimsiest I've seen in a nice place. The in-room Keurig coffeemaker had just one each of regular and decaf, plus a mystery pod that had come unwrapped. There was one regular teabag and one decaf teabag (not Keurig cups), some Sweet-n-Low (no other sweetener variety), and a couple of creamer packets. If two people each wanted a cup of any of these offerings, too bad. And there was no night staff at the desk, and no apparent self-service to replenish the stock. Adding to the coffee woes: when we checked in, I asked about breakfast and was told that the in-hotel restaurant doesn't serve it, but the clerk said "we put out pastries." Well, next morning, there were no pastries, and not even a selection of coffee, tea, and cocoa downstairs for guests. No staff were on hand to greet guests. When any roadside hotel offers at least that much these days, I'd expect a hotel striving for grandness to do the same. At least, they should put out a variety of morning coffee, cocoa, and tea in the lobby. (The night manager saw me and provided a cup for me, but he was just being friendly as he was leaving the building.) The website mentions a bellman to help carry luggage up the high, broad stairs. When we checked in, we were pointed to such a fellow; however, when we came in with our bags, he had vanished, and we were on our own. We travel with camera gear and computers plus personal bags, so a little help would have been nice. In short, the hotel felt like an afterthought to the in-house restaurant. Improvements to what are nowadays standard amenities would go a long way to making this a return destination. read more

WOW is the best way to describe this newly restored hotel in Hico! The decorations are all so unique! Each room is dedicated to a piece of history from the surrounding areas which makes each room very special. The service couldn't have been any better from the hotel staff. And you can't forget the yummy food downstairs from The Chop House! Would highly recommend the hotel! read more
