I was really in between a 3 or 4 star. 3=OK and 4=Good. Food was a definite 3 but service was a solid 4. Stopped in on a weeknight for dinner. Was really looking for someplace different that had an outdoor patio and this sure was it! Loved the little drive through the country to get there. They were quite busy just after 6PM. We would have came sooner but service on the upstairs deck doesn't start until 6. Perhaps that will change in the future and open up earlier. The view from the top deck was fun. Nothing amazing just quiet country except for the occasional motorcycle or grain truck cruising past on the highway. We were lucky to have gotten the only table on the deck. Surprised they only had one table on the deck. With the size of the deck more tables and umbrellas would be a fantastic addition to that deck. I think the owners are fairly new so perhaps that will also come down the road. They did have 2 long picnic tables against the wall however they looked pretty uninviting and also each had a bucket on it filled with old rain water, empty bottles and cigarette butts. Nothing against smoking as smokers seem to enjoy the deck as we did, but who wants to sit next to a bucket filled with water and trash. Speaking of trash there were also a couple of bags of trash tied up and sitting on the deck. Didn't seem to smell but not very appealing. Their main level is the main bar area and upstairs is an adult only game room which seemed to be popular. Full service bar up there and all employees were very welcoming. You did have to order your food and drink inside if you are sitting outside, but they will bring your food out when it is ready. Worked out well. I ordered the Philly sandwich. I really appreciated the fresh green pepper and onions on it, the toasted bun and a good amount of cheese. I just really didn't care for the meat. It had an off flavor and it was seemingly overcooked? Crunchy and kind of dry. And this sandwich is huge! Could easily split it, but unfortunately I just didn't care for it. I ordered a side salad with it which was good. My dining partner ordered the BLT. Didn't know it was a triple decker and with it being served on Texas Toast made this one huge sandwich and a bit difficult to eat. It looked really fresh but the bacon was different than we are used to. It was very limp and just also had an off taste. Maybe turkey bacon? Not sure but it also wasn't our favorite. Ordered potato salad as a side and that was tasty. Seems their breakfast gets good reviews perhaps will try that someday. Would rather come in the afternoon or eve and sit on the deck. Maybe just come tatchos next time...If we want to wait until 6PM. I'm told you can sit up on the deck before 6 but there is no access from inside so you have to walk around the outside of the building and go into the main bar to get your drinks and food. My daughter and I decided to come here a few Thursday's ago to try out their $5 Cheeseburger and Fries deal, which is unheard of these days. The waitress and other employees were super nice and welcoming. We were greeted and were sat immediately. I obviously ordered the Cheeseburger deal and my daughter ordered the Ranch Bacon Chicken sandwich. The cheeseburger was okay. You can obviously tell that it was just a frozen patty by the texture and shape; (it's $5 though, so I can't complain about it too much. What did I expect?). Also, you can tell the chicken on the chicken sandwich was frozen by the same things, the texture and shape. I'm assuming that mostly everything on the menu is frozen. They have some really good specials but not sure if we will go back and try other things in the future. read more

Mile away Way breakfast. The don't open until ten so take the dog to the dog park and go to breakfast after you take the dog home. I got the French toast platter. 3 slices French toast, 2 eggs, bacon and breakfast potatoes. That was enough to take home but sadly they don't have peanut butter. Dad had a side of biscuits and gravy which was $4 and perfect for him. The bonus of breakfast at a bar is Irish cream for the coffee. He had 2. Total bill for both of us was $26.00 without tip. Service was fantastic so tip was good. I am anxious to go back and try the brunch because the woman's plate next to mine looked fantastic. Thought we could eat lunch and discuss business, NO, music too loud. Asked if they could turn it down "a bit." Waitress replied something snarky about "use the jukebox", could not hear her. When asked about our food, she said something about if we complained, she was going to do xyz...again couldn't hear. Good burger but charged $2.08 to grill the onion slice that comes with. They don't tell you there's an extra charge when you order, you find out when you get the bill. Bad policy, didn't feel appreciated. Next time, we'll go down the HWY. read more

Very good diner food. We came for breakfast on Saturday morning and I loved that I was able to order a side of french toast ($4) for my meal and it was more than I could eat. Great coffee too! Everyone loved their food even though it wasn't the healthiest. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Tried this bar last weekend! I'm from Omaha, and the drive was so worth it! The Mile Away had great service from the moment we walked in until we walked out the door! We tried the tachos appetizer and it was SO YUMMY! Food was great and we had a nice time hanging out, drinking beer, and watching wrestling! Mile away is tucked away between the North border of Council Bluffs on the Old Lincoln Hwy to Crescent. It's actually in the country, but easy to find right on Old Lincoln Hwy about 3 miles North of Council Bluffs. I was taken by surprise when I decided to try Mile away. Years ago it appeared dingy & dark road side bar. But 3 years ago, I was told, someone else bought it and Remodeled it into a nice Family Restaurant space with the BEST cooking you could imagine. They have a freshly cooked Breakfast Brunch Buffet every Sunday Morning from 10 to 1 PM, but you can order these delicious reasonably price breakfast items off the Menu all Day Sunday, until they close at 9 ish. Really good Hash Browns, eggs, bacon, sausage, Biscuits with gravy, French toast strips, Bloody Mary's ,& Mimosa just for starters! The cooking and quality of Food is fantastic. The place is awesome! Definitely a hidden gem tucked up in the bluffs. Came here with my girlfriend just to see what it was about. As soon as we sat down the waitress was quick to come ask us how we were doing and get a us a drink. She was knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks. Just a good ole bar. The pork tenderloin was great and their tater tot nachos are awesome. If you go, you have to try them. Great atmosphere and good sports on the tv. Saw this under the heading, 10 best billiards in Omaha and have to add my story. I'm in town for a funeral and want to meet my old friends and play some pool. I have to play every day or I get the shakes. So about 20 years ago CB was my home town. And I breezed into the mile away for the first time. I enjoyed playing pool then but was not nearly the player that I am now. I'm very good because I started taking it seriously and I like being good at stuff. Retired now. Anyway, I was in there and picked up a partner who was kind of crippled but managed ok on the table. We won and we won. Some girl said she wanted to play so I suggested that she put a quarter up on the table, as is the custom. Not too long after that some loudmouth started questioning my sexual orientation and I reassured him that I was a heterosexual and that I would be happy to buy him a beer in spite of his dubious nature. He did not accept. Some more time passed and we continued to have good fortune at the pool table when I noticed a shady looking character approaching my partner from behind and as if he did not want to be seen at all. But I saw him and my spidey sense told me that he was up to no good. Sure enough, he he cheap shotted my partner with all he had to the kidney. Oh boy was I on him. I dished out some hurt that night, in spite of being hit over the head with a bottle of beer from behind. Turns out that I had to go up against a dozen regulars and 100K volt taser wasn't nearly enough for such a task. I guess I burned 4 of his best customers. I don't really remember. How unfortunate for him. I hope they forgave him. My partner scraped me off the parking lot because they forgot all about him, and he gave me a ride home. Hell, a little ice and a week later you couldn't tell I'd been in a scrap. Great fun. I recommend it to anyone. A little cliqish but you might enjoy it. I decided not to go back. Quaint lil country bar a country mile from everywhere!!! Free pool always and the prices are great!!!!! Large TVs for watching anything you want, just ask and they'll turn it on for you!! Friendly staff and always a good time for a little mini road trip! Comfy rolling lounge chairs and a large all wood bar to slide your beer glasses down! Two separate happy hours which offer great specials and karaoke on Tuesday! No real menu is offered, but they have popcorn and pizza (frozen). Definitely worth checking out!!!!! read more
