So, we made our first visit to the Outlet in Southington today. The differences between the two locations were striking. Southington is much larger and seemed to have a greater variety of products. It was more like a mini supermarket complete with produce, frozen goods, refrigerated goods, and a dairy case. Another difference is their 50% off room, where all sorts of non- foods items were half price. We used to pick up coffees, teas, frozen goods, and boxes of cereal at the Canton store. Just like Canton was, you have to check the pricing carefully because pricing is a real mixed bag. The Outlet is lower on some items and quite a bit higher on other items when compared to supermarket prices. We did find a few good buys- two squares of frozen jalapeno cornbread and two mini packages of frozen chocolate chip pancakes. How does $1.16 sound for all four? Yes, I thought you'd be as pleased with that as we were.

Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi, and this Aldi has a Trader Joe's feel. You walk in past…read moreplants--though these were a bit scragglier than Trader Joe's--in the entryway. Instead of dry goods boxes along the first aisle, you walk in to find a cold case after the door full of veggies and bagged salads. True to all Aldi's there's all the usuals and an Aldi Finds aisle including seasonal items. Occasionally you find kids shoes (since kids grow way too quick, perfect!) and decent cookware, making this a fun , well, find. Aldi itself deserves 2/5 stars for staffing, but the cashiers here were quick as always, and more pleasant than I'd be if I was the only one up front. This shiny new Aldi has it all, so bring your bags and a quarter, as always, and get your veggies first thing.

Everything necessary to conduct a modern life can now be purchased at Wal*Mart, Amazon.com, or Dunkin' Donuts. Little deli-markets in otherwise completely residential neighborhoods like this one simply have no reason for existence other than nostalgia and/or a marginal level of convenience. Yet they stay open. And I can't imagine someone is making big bucks in the cigarette/lottery ticket/off-brand donut sales business. They're probably doing it as a commitment to the community, for the love of the business, and a sense of pride. A cup of joe, a good bacon egg and cheese on a hard roll for three bucks, a donut with bacon on it, just because the maple frosting wasn't unhealthy enough. Fantastic. Basic foods and sundry items as well. A little deli in back, a small selection of beer. You keep going back, not because it's the absolute cheapest, but because it's the right thing to do.

They are just repacked from the original package at the full price without shown expiration date. Not mention about stuff in the freezers, without expiration date, you imagine how long those would stay in the store. One time, I explored things in the freezers, some of them expired since 2022.
