Had to stop in at The Mill for lunch with the girls. I love this place. They have a season summer berry salad that is out of this world. All four of us ate it as an appetizer cause we were starving. It was full of mixed greens, goat cheese, fresh blueberries, mandarin oranges, strawberries and sliced grilled chicken cooked to perfection. So delish! I also had the chicken salad croissant and it was so flavorful and the croissant was buttery and crusty. This is a must see in Ashland!!!! Our server was amazing. Dishonest, incompetent staff. Upcharge for items that aren't listed on the menu and then argue with me about their *choice. Food is hilariously inconsistent and portions vary wildly. When the mill opened it was wonderful. The place could improve if the management actually held the staff to a higher standard, but as it's about to be closing I genuinely doubt it. When you ask why did the mill close? Come reference this. -inconsistency. -unhelpful, rude staff that act like I broke into their house and am asking them to serve me food from their own fridge. -food ranges from terrible to okay. -you will wait an hour on average for the simplest food. Finally was able to catch The Mill while in Ashland and will not be my last visit. They explained that everything possible was made in house or sourced locally. The biscuit had a different texture than any other I've had but was amazing. The hot chicken had the perfect amount of heat and the chicken was tender and juicy. We also had the breakfast bowl which has all sorts of stuff topped with sausage gravy. I'm very picky about gravy and nothing matches the stuff I can make at home but the Mill may give me a run for my money. read more

I tried the Mill Cafe and Bakery for the first time and loved it! I met a friend for dinner on a Tuesday night. We arrived at 5:30 PM and were seated promptly. Our server was helpful as I received a few beer samples before making a selection. We started off with the pimento cheese dip served with pretzels and homemade naan. It was more like beer cheese with pimento, and we both thought it was delicious. The mini naan was yummy too. I ordered the dirty Cajun Burger with gouda polenta for dinner. The burger was cooked perfectly and topped with bacon, and fried onions and mushrooms and cajun aoli. I don't order burgers out much, but I'm so glad I tried this one. The gouda polenta was so good! It was hot and creamy with bursting with cheese flavor. This side was so much better than fries! Within 30 minutes the restaurant was full. I'm glad we arrived when we did. In addition to the delicious food, I loved the vibe! The chair colors popped and the bar was pretty. The artwork was intriguing. There was outside seating on the sidewalk, which would be nice in warmer months. I can't wait to try some other menu items next time I visit my family. read more

We had the Monster Biscuit, Stuffed French Toast, and BLTAE (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, egg). The Stuffed French Toast was good. It had a great flavor of spice but was a bit cold. The Monster Biscuit was well enjoyed. The biscuit was buttery and soft, and the chicken was crispy and flavorful. The BLTAE was tasty and the focaccia it was made with was very fluffy. We also had the baked pimento dip, which was deliciously spicy. The bread sticks served with it were very garlicky which we liked. Overall, it was an enjoyable time. Sat for over a half an hour and got zero service. Not even a "we will be right with you" from a server. So we left. I let the server know we hadn't been served and she laughed about it. I called the owner and she was apologetic and nice, but the service just left a bad taste in my mouth when I was so excited to try them out, especially with having a bookstore within the restaurant. They really need to have a talk with their staff about service, seems to be a big issue from other reviews and this is coming from someone who has worked retail and food service for years. read more

The Mill is a great space and an okay restaurant in midtown Ashland. The menu is not terribly diverse, mostly sandwiches, and while they have a delicious appetizer option in the baked pimento cheese, don't make the same mistake I did and go during weekend brunch hours. This was our first time here. They were out of shrimp cocktail, got the crab cakes instead..... on a bed of lettuce for some reason and had corn in it. They did not have bicardi superior, big deal for you rum and coke fans, but the place was pretty cool. It was modern and vibrant, clean, the staff was amazing and the food was good. Ordered to-go on a Tuesday while at work. Tried calling and had to try about 20 times with no answer, I guess they are very understaffed. Had chicken salad sandwich, which was very garlicky, the croissant was dry. Potato salad was good but also very garlicky. It came with a cookie, which I didn't eat, so I can't say anything about it. You get a lot of food for the price, but I don't think I'll be back. So I hate to be negative about restaurants in this area because there aren't that many. I was really excited about this place when it was in the smaller location in Ashland. The charcuterie was good and the drinks were solid. Once they moved into their new location I was excited because it boasted new recipes and dishes. We went several times and it started out good. The bartender they had made the best lemon drop martini I'd ever had and the food was great. However unfortunately as time went on the quality of the drinks took a hit hit. They weren't very good, the food was just kinda meh for the price. The bartender only seemed to be able to make what was being featured- otherwise they didn't know how to make it which was pretty annoying. I think the time that solidified us not going back was when I had gotten the fish dish and it was so small and literally something I could have gotten as a frozen meal from the grocery store for 10 bucks. My husband got the chicken sandwich and a small side- we got a few drinks and the bill was close to 100 dollars and I was so disappointed. We've eaten at other local restaurants for less and gotten way better food and drinks. We haven't been back and probably won't. It's a shame because the ambiance is pretty cool and live music is a good touch. If we were to go back we would not go to eat- maybe grab a few bottled beers and listen to the music. I want to love The Mill. The new place is beautiful! However, I have tried it so many times(all 3 locations) only to be very disappointed in the service each time. The waitstaff look like they rolled out of bed and just showed up. They are not friendly at all seem to be bored to death. Also they do not follow up with their tables to see if anyone wants another drink or even offer dessert. It could making a ton more money if the staff were properly hired and trained. The food is good but the service is very off putting. I'm sure people walk out all the time because no one ever comes back to bring the check!! I saw a lady have to flag down a server just to pay her bill after waiting patiently. I myself just left money on the table to cover my coffee because no one ever brought the bill. The place is beautifully decorated and there is also a stage for a band to play. I ordered the Breakfast Chop and my wife ordered the Eggs Benedict. The chicken was not shake in hot honey sauce like the menu says. Waitress was really nice about it and she took my plate back and bring the plate back. Well to begin with, they are short staffed and need to update their hours. We wanted to meet at 8:30 for breakfast on a Thursday and found they were closed until lunch. I later went back for lunch. The place is staffed with friendly people, it's decorated pretty and very clean. It had a huge crowd for 1:30. But what I ordered was not the world's s greatest. I ordered a Rubin sandwich, with shredded corned beef that was so tough I couldn't begin to enjoy it. The grilled wedge salad was just not something I cared for. Someone else may think it wonderful.
