I've been coming here since it opened but it's gone downhill lately and I'll be cancelling my membership if it doesn't get fixed. There's no point in going if the stations aren't even available for use.

This rink has a skate sharpener, small pro shop and a really nice concession stand. Mystic Casino is really close by, so if you are here for a tournament have a look around.

I want to do that. I am so glad that the Mississippi river is able to show us so much fun potential this early in the river. Obviously, we can boat motor sports later in the lake Pepin, anyone can see that, but here they are in the Minneapolis river by Target field and they are doing it UP with the gang stars, jump sports high speed water gymnastics These River Rats players are having major fun doing just about the coolest thing and they are role models for all (big time role models, I think they should sell posters and people should buy them for their kids, and let's put reality TV on that so that we can get the more influence). Multiple pyramids, large groups of skiers in tandem, and flips and tricks. The performers are talented, athletic, and obviously spend a lot of time practicing. They all looked like they were having fun. Sure, there are a few misses, but that's bound to happen, and it just shows how difficult what they do is. What isn't great is the plot and show they try to build around the waterskiing. It fell flat and was overly cheesy. I also didn't understand the dance numbers. Other than the ballet ski team, I kept wondering why they wanted the water skiers to dance. Let them perform as waterskiers - this is where they shine!

My son has trained here for the past few years. One of the reasons he decided on Starters Sports…read morewas because of their outstanding summer teams 16u, 17u, 18u. They travel to highly visible tournaments which provides a great platform for college recruiting. When summer teams were being finalized this year, they started removing all summer information from their website; which I thought was strange. Come to find out, they had recruited players from other academy's and programs (perhaps based on showcase data); almost all recruited players have never trained at Starters Sports. Personally, I think its deceptive to sell your training facility partly based on these travel teams; then turn around and recruit outside the organization. When perspective families/players come in to talk with staff about joining Starters Sports, they are loured by the outstanding track record of these summer teams, the recruitment possibilities and the college placement/scholarships. These parents are NOT told that several players on the team are recruited to play and have NOT been personally trained by the staff at Starters. These summer teams post their lineups on twitter; its about a 50/50 mix of current players and outside recruits. If these teams were 100% current Starter's attendees (regardless of my son's status); I would not have written this review; nor have any problem with their selection process.

The highlight is the HITTRAX system they have installed - which is a video based batting cage simulator - we can't wait to try that out soon. The prices are among the best in the area for cage rentals and the online booking system is super convenient. Starters is a first class operation that is fitted for any baseball level from little league to amateur to professional. Highly reccommend.

May 22 through September 11 the National Sports Center Cycling Velodrome hosts weekly bicycle…read moreracing events called Thursday Night Lights. They are only $2/person and children under the age of 12 are free. There is ample free parking available and only a few concessions. When we went there were microwaved hotdogs, pretzels, and Cold Stone ice cream; however, folks brought their own food and drinks (including alcohol). The velodrome itself is a cone-shaped wooden track for bicycle racing. The bikes are similar to road bikes except that they don't have breaks and have only a single gear. The races are insanely fast and sometimes have accidents where the racers totally wipe out. Here's a video of a women's race: http://youtu.be/OVCuexONMks There were several different kinds of races including one that involved 80 loops around the track (12 miles), 40 loops (6 miles), and many that were only a few loops. My favorite was the race where the slowest rider was eliminated every two laps. There were men and women riders and sometimes they competed in the same races. There were two sets of bleachers - one on each side of the velodrome. An announcer played music and kept us informed about points, laps, and racers. Kids walked around with buckets collecting free bets. The winners of the bets won things like gift certificates to Chili's restaurant. The Thursday Night Lights was tons of fun. It was an extremely laid back event. For example, we put our $2 into a slot in a box and nobody was monitoring if we put it in or not (we did). The bathrooms were porta potties. The races were quick and easy enough to understand. Sometimes our eyes were glued to the races and sometimes we felt comfortable making new friends and chatting amongst ourselves.

They are EXTREMELY patient and will bend over backwards to work with you to get the right equipment and get it to fit. Their prices are competitive with other stores and the internet plus the added bonus of truly amazing service. Another huge benefit of going there is that if you buy skates there you get free sharpening for life. At the typical $5 a sharpening that is quite a benefit. And they do a really good job a sharpening skates. Excellent repair work too on equipment.
