Shhh! Dont go here!…read more You should totally go here. I've been going here for years, including before and during the times of Covid. The swimming beach is rarely crowded. The life guards are legit, like you want them to be. The water is big enough for little kid play and big kid or adult swimming. There's a splash pad! There's a fishing pier! There's a shady place with tables to eat! There are decent bathrooms! And it's free, like parks should be.

NOT YOUR MOTHER'S MINI GOLF! Skyline Mini Golf is a little…read morewacky and unconventional compared to your average mini-golf, but if you're a mini-golf fan, it's a must do! Pay at the front desk at the Walker Art Center and then take the elevator to the 7th floor to play. An attendant will give you your club, ball and score card there. There are a wide selection of ball colors to choose from, which makes it fun. I chose neon pink. :) One huge attraction of this mini golf is the fact that it's on the rooftop and there are views all around of the city. The first play was using your club as a cue on a billiards table to direct the ball into the pockets/holes. (See my photos). Another play was tipping a tilt table to get your golf ball around a maze and into the hole. I failed miserably at that one! It's a pretty short course, but very different, very artsy. Don't expect it to be anything like you've played before. We played the 10 holes for $12 (Summer 2024).

There's a childcare center, work out floor, pool, hydrotherapy, and work out classes- not to mention they have partnered with Soul Bowl to offer a full service restaurant. We mostly use the pool, we attend water aerobics twice a week and love the instructions Dawn and Angelina. The indoor pool is heated, there's lap swimming and free swim during the week. The pool provides flotation devices, toys, towels, swim caps, and goggles if needed. They've really made it easy for people to access the pool. At least once a week there is also a women's only swim- honestly something for everyone. We haven't used the hydrotherapy pool but it looks really cool. There is a co-ed locker room with bathrooms and changing rooms. The workout center upstairs has a lot of equipment and weights- whatever you're looking for they most likely have it. There's also classes upstairs throughout the week (think yoga, strength training, soon to be Zumba). There is also a separate locker room upstairs that is divided for men and women. On the main floor is where you will find the childcare center, entrance to Soul Bowl and art that's been done my local artist. The front desk staff are friendly and always seem to remember your name which makes you feel like you're part of something. I know that they are looking to start phase two next year and we are eagerly awaiting the groundbreaking. If you're looking for a local spot to hangout and get in some exercise check this place out. Filled with succulents and ferns and vines, this place is the perfect place to hang out when you're headed to the Walker in the deeps of winter. PLUS, the Palm Room has a gigantic 22-foot-high glass fish sculpture by Frank Gehry. It's absolutely breathtaking. It's also a total DREAM of an event space- it suits up to 150 people for standing events, and the acoustics are lovely. It's only $500 to rent for weddings (CHEAP, folks, MAD CHEAP) and it's open pretty much any time, including Sundays. As someone who once had to move an outdoor event indoors FAST (a Great Gatsby event in the Sculpture Garden that was threatened by mist/cold/rain), this place saved my event and instead of having to cancel we basically upgraded to an even classier venue by moving indoors here! I'm so grateful that Minneapolis has so many beautiful nooks like this scattered throughout the city- as an event planner, it's a pure delight to be able to hold interesting gatherings in truly one-of-a-kind places.

I came for a hike with the kids previously but hadn't spent much time inside the nature center building. This is one of the sleepy diamonds in the northwest metro. Upon entry there is a front desk that can give you the layout of all that is available. They have a place to hang your coats, a general seating area, a coloring room for kids, animal costume area, cages and aquariums with the animals from the greater area, a bird watching area and conference rooms for parties or meetings. They are open all but 3 days a year and this place is so much fun! Outside you have trails rated by skill for snowshoeing (rented inside) or hiking when it's warm. This is a perfect place for a picnic and they sell snacks and minimal beverages for a small fee inside. Other options are a fire pit, sapping maple trees and a lake with a walking bridge that runs across. Come check out Eastman you won't regret it!

A whole new lingo Hack, house, button, hurry hard…read moreMilan in five years Got a call from my cousin out of the blue last October. He had secured a spot for a team at the legendary Saint Paul Curling Club and invited me in. I had never Curled a day in my life but decided to give it a go. So happy I did. First practice I fell down again and again and again. First match I was hyperventilating from sweeping for another newbie. Practice makes better. Everyone at the club has been super cool about playing with our group of novices. Getting excited for next season this October. We have a handful of wins under our belt and even competed in a Bonspiel (Curling Tournament). The tradition in curling is that the winning team buys the losing team a round of beer. Kind of torn now between winning and free beer.

I have to admit, I know very little about the sport of curling; but I have watched it a few times…read moreat the Olympics and have been kinda curious about it. The club itself is located on a busy part of Selby Avenue in St. Paul. I've noticed the club with its red neon lights; a number of times while in the neighborhood. After eating next door on a Friday night, I decided I should try to coral my friends and take a peek inside. What we found was a tournament going on. We were greeted by a woman who was a great spokesperson for the club and the sport. She was friendly and shared with us all about the sport and the history of this special club. There's a bar upstairs too that offers a small bar food menu and overhead views of the curling lanes. I recommend to anyone to stop in and see for yourself. I plan on coming back to watch a little more over a beer...or two.

We had 5 of us and we did the zombie apocalypse/walking dead-type experience and while it was definitely fun, we wish we would have tried something easier for our first experience. We did end up running into each other once in a while or hitting each other in the head! It was chaos to have a billion zombies coming at you and so we were kind of just spinning in circles and shooting at everything! I was a bit nervous because I am known to get vertigo but it didn't affect me in that way at all. Expect to sweat and make sure to wear closed toed shoes!!

Went today to Extreme Sandbox in Hastings and had a great time. There were three of us and operated…read morethe large excavators. Wyatt was our instructor and did a fantastic job. Overall it was a fun experience and I would do it again.
