Ended up at the Mix because Q bar shut down early... and soooo happy I did!! Tony and Santos (sorry If got the names wrong) were some of the most hospitable bar staff I've interacted with in a long time. (Note: I've bartend In the city since 2010) please let them know that they were LOVELY and I will definitely be back because of them. Side note: there was a random aggressive altercation that occurred behind me while I was ordering.. but it seemed like the guard handled in an appropriate and timely manner.... I would NOT go again if I see the white elderly female bartending... (with short, white hair, pixie cut) (CHECK OUT the other 1-star review lol) When we first sat down she was serving other customers, which seems fine... okay she thought she was being funny that she cannot see the tiny buttons on the soda gun. And paused for two minutes to identify the soda button without using her glasses to be comedic (she finally pulled down her glasses after 2 whole minutes). Next customer ordered a beer. While a guy at the bar trying to make a conversation with the customer ordering a beer. She shush'd the guy making a conversation, thinking she is funny. And then it's finally me and my husband's turn. My husband asked for a bourbon & coke. She turned to me and asked for my ID. Gave her my driver license. And she spent three whole minutes studying my ID, which I was unbothered of, thinking she's old, she's taking her time, she's doing the maths, whatevs. Then she asked my husband if we are ordering two bourbon coke. He said "No, he's (me) getting something else" and so I ordered whiskey sour. And when she started pulling out two glasses, she kept looking back at my husband, mumbled a comment that sounded like "are you dead?" (Not 100% sure what she said) My husband asked her, "I'm getting a bourbon and coke and he (me) wanted something else, why are you giving us a hard time?" She said "well normally two people order two drinks" THAT'S CORRECT! BUT ONLY she never asked what I want, she just assumed that we are having two of the same drink. But she forgot, that she spent A LONG AS$ time to stare at my ID, and never asked what I want. She then made a comment sarcastically, "how about I make you a bourbon and coke and just let him (me) sit there." And my husband of course is unhappy, and they continued to exchange a few words. Eventually, she asked us to take our as$es elsewhere. (To which, we are more than happy to!) TBH, I don't even know what happened. I kept re-analyzing the situation. I think it was a big misunderstanding. But after all, her attitude was unacceptable even the bar "reserves all right to refuse service to anyone." She is just a bad vibe. Oh also, objectively speaking, she seemed high / drunk / impaired. (Judging by the way she interacted with the other customers, and us.) We went to the next bar, shared our experience with other customers. We were told "Yeah, I haven't been to The Mix in years! And I know who you are talking about. Her energy is just off. The bartender Sloane was very clearly inebriated and incredibly disrespectful to my friend and I over a very simple mistake. She had said the total was $38 and my friend gave $33. She simply didn't hear her correctly. And instead of making it right she berated us and told us to leave. She was drunk and racist!!! My friend and I will be calling the store today as well to report this despicable behavior. Shame on Sloane!!!!!! We went down the street to last call bar and the patrons as well as the bartender knows that Sloane is a drunk and a racist. We also tried to give her the correct amount of $$ and she clearly didn't know how to operate her cash register. Drunk. Racist. Just absolutely awful. She should be fired. read more

Service!! Shockingly disrespectful. The bartender by the name of Sloan was obviously drunk. Her behavior was absolutely unacceptable on all levels and I question any establishment that would ever have her as an employee. So drunk was she that she couldn't count the cash exchange and was unable to use the electronic payment method so she took out her frustrations on me and my friend. A friend recommended this place and it was so much fun! The bartenders were so amazing and we had great conversations with them. Our group got a variety of drinks like tequila shots, topo chico, martinis, jameson beer (?) and some others. Music was amazing and the vibes were good. Lots of seating available inside and they also had a back patio. The restrooms were a bit interesting bc they were kinda exposed. We stayed until closing (2 am) and it was a great time -- would definitely come again! read more

Gregorio is also a hugr sweetie and is always greeting people he recognizes. It can get really really busy but the atmosphere and the patio is very warming and welcoming. To preface, we have been here before, and we know they have heavy pours, however,I went to this bar with a few friends, we ordered drinks and were carrying along nicely with our night. One friend and I were approached by two men who were seemingly friendly and they roofied our drinks. After having a SINGLE DRINK we don't remember anything except waking up in our beds the next morning. My friend was violently ill, and we woke up so confused. Thank god we were with two other friends or else we have no idea if we would have been safe. We will never be coming back here and if you are thinking of coming here, make sure to watch your drink. read more

I remember when this spot was called Uncle Bert's probably around the start of the millennium. It was a more rambunctious and disheveled place. Or maybe it was me who was more rambunctious and disheveled back then. It all blurs together in what's left of my brain. Currently it's more of a standard grade Castro gay bar but with two separate bars. The second one is outside in the back patio where most of the regulars congregate amid the permanent holiday lights. The owners refer to their establishment as "The Neighborhood Bar" on the awning, and it fits as most of the customers know each other and the veteran bartender quite well. I just sidled myself up to the main bar and ordered one of their $7 drinks (photo: https://yelp.to/OvmIsy4ZKD). It can get a bit loud and somewhat crowded during Happy Hour (no 2-4-1 though), but what I really appreciated was the huge restroom with multiple urinals available. Unfortunately the sink is adjacent to them, so depending on the gender and availability of the person washing up, there could be awkward furtive glances exchanged. Or you could get lucky. Who knows when you're in The Mix? Was ignored by the bartender. She went to opposite ends of the bar, and every time I followed, she moved on without serving me. She saw me. She seemed not to like me, decided not to serve me, and actively ignored me. She is middle-aged, with dark hair, and works Saturdays at 7pm. Giving it a 5, but I'm pretty sure this place would rather have a 3. It's the dive-iest bar in the Castro and anti-pretentious as a dive bar should be, hence why I think they'd prefer a 3. But the drinks are strong, the staff is great and the area is amazing. Very spacious and on most nights the place to start since it's spacious enough to find seating, and in the back there's an outdoor area where you can enjoy the weather regardless if it's hot or cold (since they had heaters when it's cold). Interesting bar that will play the presidential debates if requested. Great place for an after work meetup, or trying to catch up with friends without worrying about spending a lot to get buzzed. read more

I write this review as I sit at the mix, and I hope the old, grey haired bartender (just figured out her name is Sloan, which I figured out about halfway through this review) has the gall to come up to me and treat me the way I've seen her treat two patrons the passed two days, consecutively. Let me explain. I have been to the mix MANY times at all points of the day. recently, I have been coming more often since I moved to the surrounding area. Yesterday, I witnessed a slowwwwwww bartender (Sloan). and when a patron, understandably frustrated with that slowness, (mind you, it's a Tuesday at ~4pm, it's not busy). I watched this bartender take 2min21secs (yes I timed it) to pour me a shot--im simply making the point that he was justified. Anyways, When he voiced that concern, I watched the bartender verbally berate him, take his drink although clearly not intoxicated, and continue to YELL in front of the ~10 people that were there in the bar. The patron (rightfully) deescalated and left. After this, I watched the bartender pour another drink, THEN fail to charge another customer (thus making them wait for drinks already poured in front of them) and then proceed to RUN OUT TO THE BACK AND VERBALLY BERATE HIM AGAIN--AFTER HE ALREADY REMOVED HIMSELF AND WASNT INTERACTING WITH HER ANYMORE. Sloan then proceeded to offer me a free shot on "that guy" as a concession. (A shot she took two minutes to pour. I've seen most bartenders at peak times do this in under 15 seconds. I'm more so glad about not having to wait for her to charge me, than being charged itself) But ya know what, whatever, I wasn't there, this all happened right when I walked in. Maybe he was disrespectful that I didn't see. Didn't think much of it. My boyfriend and I had our drink and left. It's probably worth noting that Sloan said "she's runs this bitch, and what she says goes" (even if that's true...yikes) Today--I walk into the bar, grab my shot, and Sloan is the bartender, unfortunately, once again. I grab my shot, go to the back, and proceed to mind my business.. I then notice a guy come in to meet some friends, and mentioned he had a party weekend, and was gonna go grab a glass of water. (His friends had alcoholic drinks from the bar) Sloan then proceeds to literally CHASE this man out to the back, and criticize him for not buying a drink, and even goes so far to ask personal questions to "put him in her shoes" Sloan continued on to say things like "oh so you bartend, people usually come in and just get water" the man responded and said "it does happen, yes" to which Sloan responded, "yeah I can tell by your eyes that that's not true and you're lying" and proceeds to walk out --all of this even though Sloan herself said the man gave him a nice "hello"--it's not like he just walked in and didn't acknowledge the service workers. She came out later and offered a half assed apology to him later which I also heard. Honestly, I don't know what Sloan's problem is. I'm not sure if she hates her job, has some self internalized hatred, hates customer service, is just a bitter woman, doesn't know how to control her temper, or a collection of all of those things. All I know is, I have been coming to the mix for almost 5+ years now, and I have never, ever, EVER, thought about not coming back until I have seen this GROSSLY unprofessional behavior, especially in the light of the Castro. This SHOULD be a fun place. People shouldn't be berated for getting water and joining their paying patron friends. Pick your battles. Its customer service. I thought this would be common sense. I'm probably about a third of Sloans age, and it might be time for her to wisen up. She'll never get a tip from me again. Made sure to get my second shot so I wasn't villainized for having the opinion she is awful to interact with and had my drink taken from my hands, as I've seen her do. Seriously, if she isn't part of ownership, you guys need to seriously discipline or replace her. My review isn't the first, and it won't be the last. UPDATE!!! Walked down the street to The Edge, and was informed by patrons there that this is very much usual behavior for Sloan. So, question answered, she's just a bitter woman. SERIOSULY--if you see this woman when you're walking into Mix, wait until a shift change or another bartender comes in, you'll thank me. I promise. read more

I'm honestly so disappointed with my experience at The Mix on Friday. As a woman of color who supports the LGBTQ+ community, I came expecting a safe, inclusive vibe -- especially being in the Bay Area, where that's the norm. But I've never experienced the kind of energy I felt there. Right after getting our IDs checked, a drunk man -- who apparently worked there -- grabbed my friend's Labubu figure and started yelling and yelled to leave. Not even 10 seconds from walking in the door. We asked the woman at the stool if he worked there and she confirmed it. Nothing was done. No apology, no accountability. Was it because we were women? Was it because we were women of color with our gay friends? Whatever the reason, it felt disrespectful and targeted. And in a place that's supposed to center safety and inclusion, it just felt wrong. I've been coming to this bar for years, but recent experiences have raised serious concerns for me and my friends. On two separate visits, friends of mine became severely ill shortly after having drinks here. While I can't definitively say what caused it, there was no clear opportunity for anyone outside of our group to touch their drinks. We tried contacting the bar to address these issues but were dismissed with the manager saying "I asked the staff, nobody knew anything about it" and had no follow up. If I were the manager of a bar with multiple people reporting similar issues I would be seriously concerned. I'm sharing this in the hope that others remain cautious and aware when visiting. Unfortunately, based on these experiences, I don't feel comfortable recommending this place anymore. read more

He screamed ONLY CONSENT as if it was sexual assault and then got the door guy to kick me out. What an embarrassment for this venue. The guy was also screaming that he works there which is truly appalling for staff to even consider ACTUAL assault on a patron for harmless, widely accepted GAY behavior at a GAY bar. First time out here in the Castro with no plans, legit just walking around. This place had their door open so naturally we peaked inside and heard BANGERS - Stickwitu by the Pussycat Dolls. Sold. We came inside and got seated fairly quickly. The bartender (Manny) was sooooo GREAT! My boyfriend and I had no idea what we wanted to drink so we asked Manny for recs. Manny suggested the strawberry margaritas because they have a special recipe. Let me tell you... I had 3 of these margs and I was borderline black out central. (I am also just this small girl so a few drinks for me will do it.) Manny knew exactly what to do with these drinks!! On top of all this, the ambiance is a good time + the mix stays playing straight bangers. Ranging from Destinys Child to Ne-Yo to all the old throwbacks. Its such a fun time. Multiple times I came here (bottled beer for me) and the person I was with (cocktails) blacked out quickly: not slurring, not drunk, just suddenly not logging memories, being extremely confused, and needing to immediately leave and sleep it off. read more

I asked for three drinks of whatever the previous customer had ordered - they paid 20 for two drinks, when it was my turn the bartender jacked up the price of three drinks to $47. When confronted and asked how much each drink cost, he looked mad stupid and went back and forth till he claimed it was $12 a drink (not the original $10), and claimed it was a 'typo' finally charging me $33 (Not $36). Unsure If he was nervous caught in his bluff or simply terrible at basic math equations, either way it's a recurring theme as another customer later related of a similar experience. So, in summary, it's a decent set up (music shuts by 1 am) but is accompanied by deceitful staff taking advantage of new faces and those they claim to serve. read more

Got to the bar and begin ordering my drink when a man came up and started yelling very loudly at me "don't you ever walk past security again" and had an aggressive stance so I left. Before leaving I asked my friends if they had saw him when walking in and they told me no. I told the security to do his job and left without getting anything so can't comment on the drinks although the bartender was quick to get to me and was polite. It's unfortunate someone who's not used to the area gets berated like this but I know it's not what most of the establishments are like. A group of friends and I stopped in while walking around the neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon. We were able to grab a table outside and stayed for about 2 hours. It was pretty busy when we were there, but not so much that you couldn't walk around inside. We encountered a lot of outgoing customers during our visit. I originally ordered an old fashioned, but switched to margaritas afterwards when I noticed how many people were drinking them. Margaritas are definitely the way to go here. The old fashioned was good, but the margarita was a 9/10 without a doubt. I try not to come down too hard on bar/restaurant bathrooms (especially at a time when many places may be short staffed), but the bathroom here was gross. read more

This bar is located in the Castro District and bars out here have VERY generous pours. Met up for a friend's birthday on a Friday night right before midnight and parking was pretty difficult, you can drive around the main streets or the some of the residential areas nearby but I had a hard time finding parking and had to park a little farther out. Anyways, I went the end of January 2022 and they checked for vaccination. They have a small inside area, gender neutral bathrooms, and they have a nice outdoor area. They play music, have screens, and they have such generous pours! We were shocked with our round of tequila shots. The bartenders were super friendly and a great place to grab a drink! read more

Only downside to this establishment is that the bathroom! if i tell you it reeks, it eeefenn does and it's unbelievable! I cannot stay in there for more than one second.
