Cash only, but beer is cheap by SF standards

Even if you know nothing about its historic significance, Twin Peaks Tavern is a place you'll want to visit not just for the best-priced beer in town but because it's literally the best people-watching spot in the Castro. With a "cash only" policy, a corner location on one of the City's busiest intersections, and a colorful crowd on both sides of its plate-glass windows this is the place to go if you want to experience the Castro's best-priced drinks in the neighborhood's best location for people-watching. Twin Peaks Tavern is a place to meet up for a quick one and a place to linger and though there's generally a plethora of well-seasoned men occupying its space I've never felt anything but welcome and comfortable occupying a seat here. The drinks aren't fancy, sometimes even a bit sloppy, but the experience is uniquely San Francisco. You can (and should) read up on its history but you ought not miss an opportunity to occupy a table late some weekend afternoon. It might not be what it once was but it's still something unique.

Walking into this place, I immediately thought to look around for the Golden Girls to see if they were in. This bar is definitely very warm with a mix of vibrant and eclectic decor, a heavily carpeted and comfortable locals' hangout. The only thing I see missing here is the wooden chairs with floral or patterned upholstery. Although It's not a large bar, its quaint, very full and requires a bit of maneuvering to get around. Although if you're lucky you may be able to score a table in the limited number of cheap seats in the 2nd floor loft. Its bar service here only, so plan your drinks accordingly. They do make a decent old fashioned! Cheers!!

This was me and my roommate's first time here! We went to the balcony upstairs which had such an intimate atmosphere! We were informed that we had to pay our drinks with cash, so we withdrew money from the balcony area. It was such a cute bar to talk and listen to wonderful music from the automated jukebox. Definitely coming back

I've decided to celebrate my 6,700th Yelp review at the Glass Coffin because I was NOT the oldest patron in the place. I wasn't the youngest either, not by a long shot, which just shows this classic watering hole has been attracting customers across the generations. That's a good thing because they were definitely on life support during the pandemic. The older gentlemen were still holding court at the tables next to the floor-to-ceiling windows checking out the passing beefcake. The bar, however, was up for grabs, so I took an open seat secretly fearful that I would be forced to share a table with my age-appropriate brethren. But no, the young buck bartender let me stay since my eyes widened at their house cocktail selection. I was in a tropical mood, so I went for the $8.50 Tequila Sunrise, a good size glass filled to the lip with tequila, orange juice, and a splash of grenadine (photo: https://yelp.to/hM4GOgLDPx). It made my palate do a hula. I was feeling a bit convivial, so I ordered the $11 Appletini, which he served straight up like my name was Carrie. The vodka and apple pucker combo worked for me (photo: https://yelp.to/RCSB8kGnQ4). Welcome back from the dead, Glass Coffin. COCKTAILS - 5 stars...good prices for frilly drinks that pack a nice kick AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...hey, it's been around since 1935 and a gay bar since 1972...it's an institution SERVICE - 4 stars...nice bartender but his attention veered to the fresh meat that came in TOTAL - 5 stars...hey, it's a must-stop on your Castro gay bar tour RELATED - Exploring the Castro? Stopped by on a Monday afternoon for cocktails. Overall we enjoyed sitting at the bar sipping our drinks. The bartenders were not overly friendly but they were pleasant and made a strong drink. It was fun to hang out at Twin Peaks that has a lot of history in the Castro area.

Love this place at winter time. Stopped by for a hot buttered rum before a show and the place was packed. So warm and cozy! I love seeing the nutcrackers in display every holiday season.

Great cocktails and friend bartenders! Quite surprised it's still cash only in 2025 so make sure to bring some green!

CASH ONLY. I did notice an older crowd here. It also smelled like urine when I entered. Bartender was nice and drinks came fast.

Drinks: Cheap, strong, and delicious ($6 cocktails?! Yes please!) Atmosphere: Small, unapologetically gay, and full of personality. Drag queens: Incredible, stunning, hilarious, and unforgettable. This was my very first drag show, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. They took the time to explain how drag shows work, welcomed all the newcomers into the family, and immediately made us feel like we belonged. I was a little nervous going in, but within minutes I felt completely at home. Special shoutout to Olivia Heart--my favorite drag queen and our waitress. She'll make sure you're very well taken care of and might whisper a few sweet nothings that leave you questioning everything. An absolute icon. If you're in San Francisco, you HAVE to go. And if you can, catch the Friday or Saturday drag show--just be sure to call ahead for a reservation because it gets busy. And bring cash, because it's Cash Only! They have an ATM. Thank you, Aunt Charlie's, for an unforgettable night. I'll definitely be back!

She went around taking drink orders as well as making the experience very memorable. The place is very intimate and when I say intimate it is nuts to butts but we like both lol. The wall has side by side seating and there are stools in front of the bar. The performers werk up and down the main aisle entertaining. It is a cash only place which was perfectly cool with us. We happened to catch their drag show. They do offer small little snacks like chips and peanuts. Drink prices were very reasonable and with good pours thanks to bartender Pete. Thank you everyone for such a great show.
