Stopped by for the Heated Rivalry Rave and the Vibes were amazing!! The bar tenders were so nice, the DJ did an amazing job and the drinks were great! They had custom drinks on theme, temporary tattoos on the bar, and posters and videos playing that went with the theme. A fun night out surrounded by fun people!

I stopped in here on a week night out, just doing a little bar hopping and catching up with one of my favorite people, and I had a super disappointing experience . We had just come from another place a few blocks away that had great atmosphere and I was really shocked that there was not a single patron inside Q Bar. That is not an exaggeration. The only other person inside the entire space was the bartender . At one point during our visit someone did walk in, but they quickly left . I wish we had been that smart. We ordered some drinks and sat down but a few minutes later we were told that the CO2 was out so they had no soda water for drinks. We definitely should have left at that point. Instead, we ordered drinks that we would not traditionally have. I got a Mai Tai and I believe the person I was with just had a white claw or something in a can. It was awkwardly quiet while we waited and I could tell we both felt uncomfortable, so I was excited to get our drinks. Unfortunately I took a sip of the Mai Tai and the juice that was used was absolutely rancid. Like, well beyond it's expiration. I almost threw up. Normally I would have said something, but the whole situation was so sad. We just wanted to get out of there. I have no idea if this was a one-off or if this place is terrible all of the time but I would definitely not return.

I came here 420 weekend (well 4/19) and had a great time. The security guards (one guy early on and a woman as well later) were very friendly, helpful and didn't give us a hard time for going in and out to smoke (cig and vape). The bartenders (particularly the cute long haired guy) was super friendly, made good conversation and made great tequila sunrises. The bathrooms were clean. The water station was convenient and always stocked. The go go dancer was super friendly too! We went on a tribute night (Kylie M ) but I could tell the music otherwise would be fun, pop and dance types. It was a bit dead until around 10:00 PM but that's no surprise, I personally prefer that because when it gets crazier at 12 AM there's still room to have fun/socialize without feeling like you're going to be crushed. Was a fun night out. Plus side, the pizza place next door makes a great snack halfway through the night.

All I can say is, if you want to party like it's 1 AM on Saturday but it's only 10 PM on Monday, look no further. As for the clientele, cute young guys (maybe 80/20 split, the latter being straight, the former being, in this hetero dude's honest impression, better dressed and in better shape) but 40/60 the other way for girls (fewer of them overall though). Not to be left out of the mix if you aren't the type of guy to frequent the Castro. you are missing out on a great time. Also seems like a good place to bring a really cool girl you met at one of the less poppin' Monday night locations around town. (or, of course, a really fun guy if you're batting from the other side of the plate) From now on, I think it's Emily Anne at Rickhouse followed immediately by a 10 min. cab ride to Q-bar along Market Street. no question. PS: good luck at work on Tuesday, the drinks are strong. I suggests downing something greasy and filling at Sparky's circa 1 AM before you head home. (they always have South Park on the TV when it's that late too, laughing helps stave off hangovers... FACT! last time it was the tri-pod and wheels episode. Classic.)

Ask the Community - Q Bar

Is there a cover to Sunday night?

No cover on the Sundays that I've been there in March 2026.

What kind of music do they play?

From what I've seen it's usually a pretty standard DJ set of dance / electronica. Very danceable. Check their calendar for music/shows on specific nights.

They have some of the best shows, and the ambience of the club is perfect for theater, music, comedy and of course, DRAG! . I just saw Back In Business, San Francisco native Matthew Martin's amazing cascade of classic characters, from a 70's Susan Hayward to a classic Judy Garland! It was a very well done show. Matthew Martin is amazingly talented and funny. Costumes were on point- well done and easy to recognize the characters he seamlessly transformed into. Loved his witty rapport with the audience as Bette Davis or whatever form he shape-shifted into. I'm not sure which was my favorite, but Kate Hepburn (from Lion In Winter) and Peggy Lee were at the top of my list!

The shows have always been amazing and I will go back to see some of them. However, I can't say I'll be back for anything else. I went for Dore Alley Fair. I waited in line an appropriate amount of time no issues there. Paid the entry went it in and ordered a drink. I asked the bartender if he could cash a larger bill that the ATM had given me and he said yes but it may be a lot of 5's, 10's and some 1's. No problem there. The music was good, crowd was good having a great time. After drink three I decided to go out and get some food from the truck that was just outside the club... literally, you opened the door to leave and you are standing in front of the truck. When I went to pay for my food it was then I realized something was not right. I paid and while I waited counted what was in my wallet and I was off by $40. This has happened to me before at Oasis but thought maybe this.. maybe that ... happened and gave the benefit of the doubt. etc... Now it is just before 7:30 pm and I go to enter the club and I am denied. They announce no more entry into the club for anyone ... the club is full. I showed them my stamp and said "but I have a stamp..." They said it didn't matter and closed the door on me, literally. First what is the point of paying and getting a stamp if you can't leave and return, I didn't even go but a few feet away and when I walked out there was still plenty of room in there. Secondly, How is it possible that a club that size is full at 7:30 pm on Sunday even when it id Dore Alley Fair? So while there shows I will go and see because I enjoy them I am not going to pay a door fee, spend $16 per cocktail ($14 + $2 tip) to be treated so rudely and to be ripped off by a bar tender.
