Shoutout to Edrich for the COVID cut!!! So I made my way from the East Bay because I desperately needed a cut, and my usual hair salon is closed until the Bay Area gets the clear, which probably won't be anytime soon. Did my research for barbers in Solano County and came across the Modern Man. Checked out the different barbers and decided to book with Edrich, and I'm so glad I did! I didn't give him much to go off of other than a picture of my hair from another time I had it cut, and I wasn't going to hold it against him if he didn't cut it exactly the way I showed him. He cut my hair EXACTLY the way I wanted it and happily adjusted areas until I was 110% feeling myself. I'm usually satisfied after any haircut, but I was especially happy with how my hair turned out with Edrich, so much that I sent pics to friends right after (and I've only done that one other time, EVER). Was my first time at The Modern Man and Jeremy was my barber. I usually go to a regular haircut place but wanted to try something new. Jeremy is a chill and laidback person to talk to who's skill is profound. He really took my time with cutting my hair and constantly checked on his work. Today in particular Ruben did a great job of recognizing that my kids were with me and without us asking decided to put on Kids Netflix. I walk in here(2 different times in the same day) for a quick taper these dudes are sitting down, on their phones "I got an appointment..." "Where ?! Its empty in the shop" (you're literally sitting on your a**). "Don't you want to make money?" "It's not about the money" Why are you in business then ? Cause it ain't for the customers if bro can't walk in and get a quick trim around the ears(not even a full cut). Shit literally takes 5-15 minutes max. Why are y'all there ? TLDR: Edrich, who owns and runs The Modern Man really cares about his business. How do I know this? Because he guarantees the promise of great service, and if it isn't great one time, he busts his ass to make it right. One of his former employees left me hanging for 3 months, and after reading about how disgruntled I was about the experience (on Yelp no less), Ed decides to take it upon himself & make it right. Five stars for the excellent and on point service, the communication, and that touch of persistence. Long Version: So lets preface this with the idea that once my opinion is soured on something or someone, it's really quite hard to reverse it. Businesses frequently fall into this category, because if a business (especially an established business) effs up, it's easy for them to throw out a worthless apology and generic blanket BS explanation about how they failed to meet a client's needs. Usually it sounds something like this: "Dear valued customer, we are so sorry to hear about your experience. We here at (insert generic business name here) pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. Trust that we have heard your complaints and will be forwarding this to upper management and will be having open discussions on how to improve on this matter. Thank you for your input." Am I right? But let's face it, nothing ever comes of it - especially because they say something stupid like "We hope you give us a second chance!" without giving you an ACTUAL legitimate reason for why you should come back. (See my Yelp review on Juice House in Benicia for an example of this stupidity). Why? So I can pay for your terrible service again? Common sense isn't so common anymore nowadays. Edrich at The Modern Man rectified the problem by contacting me multiple times through Yelp to apologize, explain the snafu, and schedule a time where I can bring my son in, so that he can make things right. His tenacity was quite telling as it showed me how much his business reputation meant to him. THIS is the sole reason why I contacted him back - because he didn't come at me with some generic response (classic sorry, not sorry response), and he didn't get upset at the raw review. He took it as a moment of constructive criticism and used his excellent communication skills to convey that he would like an unhappy client to put their faith in him. He is a family man and a business owner who invests a lot of heart and effort into his craft, and it shows. Ed, thank you for fitting us into your busy schedule. You took your time, assuring that the cut was just right and that we were both happy with it. This is the reason why The Modern Man will thrive, so long as Ed is in charge. The barber that been cutting my hair for the last 6 years is Dylan Webb. Never once have I been disappointed by his performance. I've seen his skills evolve over the year and my extremely thick hair has never been an issue for him. I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair. I would suggest booking an appointment ahead of time because these barbers do get booked very quickly due to their high demand. I usually see Dan for my haircuts. Each one of these barbers will give you a top quality haircut and are undoubtedly some of the best barbers in the Bay Area.
