My favorite place to grab a drink in Norman. I almost always stop at The Mont when I am in Norman. I always get a swirl and some chips and queso. Both of these are what the Mont is known for. The queso is top notch. The swirls are strong and might be the cheapest and tastiest buzz in Norman. I love this place and would recommend it to any who wants a place to grab a drink and an appetizer. The bad part is I can't really say much for the rest of the menu. I have had a few things other than what I have previously wrote about. Nothing really sticks out as great nor was anything really that bad. This place is one of the best bars in Norman and I would recommend that everyone should stop here once and grab a legendary SWIRL!!! read more

I'm a little confused as I write this review of The Mont. Mostly because there wasn't anything truly bad about The Mont... but, there wasn't a single thing that would make me go back to The Mont either. I had the BLT, which was fine... but there wasn't anything special about it. Just your standard, "taste just fine," BLT. The fries that came with it were good, but I've had similar styles at other establishments. The server was very polite and attentive, which was nice. All that being said... As others have said, no culinary treasures are to be found within these walls. Not today anyway. I had the enchiladas. They were... edible. I came here with family after we were trying to find a different restaurant that ended up being closed. Apparently my Mom used to come here when she was in school. You can tell by the people there, and the reviews here that it has a good following and loyal customer base. For someone passing through looking for a good meal, I wouldn't go here again. I'd agree that the food here isn't as bad as some people are saying. For gods sake people, this isn't some 5 star fine dining establishment. I lived in Norman for several years, and frequented this location quite often. The "Swirls" are the MVP here for sure, but I've had the wings, burgers, chicken nachos, and they were all fairly decent. It's definitely worth going and trying a swirl at the very least. My husband and I are rarely in Norman and visited The Mont on the suggestion of a colleague. I ordered a burger with onion rings, my husband had enchiladas, and we split some queso as a starter. I pretty much only highly recommend going for a nice setting and the Drinks! The food is just average to sub par in my opinion. We sat outside today and ordered appetizers and drinks after a day on our feet at the Renaissance Fair. I highly recommend the Sooner Swirl... The local favorite which is a frozen Margarita and sangria mix. They don't skimp out on the alcohol either. As far as food. The chicken nachos were a pretty nice large portion to share but lacked chicken. It comes topped with shredded cheese also and sour cream, house made salsa, guacomole, and side jalapeños. It wasn't that great. We also ordered the spicy fried green beans. These were pretty good and actually had a good kick to them. Breaded pretty thick too. I would recommend these. I'll be honest, I've never been a Mont person and I don't really understand why they claim to be a Mexican place when they clearly aren't. But we had friends in town who wanted to go, and we had a really great service experience despite that we were a large party and the patio was very busy. I meant to call the next day, but our server Chastity was kind and patient when a teenager with us had some detailed allergy questions. We appreciated how serious she took it, which made our friends feel safe and not a nuisance. The kind, attentive service made up for the lackluster food. After a hard day of work it was a "Swirl" that was called for. So off to the Mont we go. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. She gave us the option of dining indoors or in the patio. We sat inside sober could enjoy the Basketball game on TV. There was always a good view as there many TV's. Their menu has a wide selection from Salads to Burgers to Mexican Food. They have a good selection of appetizers as well. Service was a tad bit slow. But the place was packed and we were enjoying the swirls so no problem. All our food was good and I saw other items I would like to try in the future. A long loved Norman institution that's been around for YEARS, and for the best of reasons? Yup. Don't take the food here too seriously -- it's bar & grill stuff, but generally very good for what it is. We love the Club Sandwich here, and have had a few of the salads on the menu. (We keep going back to the Club, though. It's always a good stand-by.) I can't imagine coming here without eating outside on the patio. (Yeah, yeah, the interior's fine. I just associate this restaurant/bar with outdoor seating and thus tend to come here in spring, summer, or fall. Weird.) Walked into The Mont and immediately fell in love with the ambiance. There's a fireplace on the far wall and couch seating in one of the corners. On the walls there's scores from every OU football game from every year. Very cool. I didn't go into the bar area or order any drinks and I think I would've been more impressed if that were the case. I had been starving the entire day had just finished going to the museum and we ended up here. I ordered two appetizers some onion rings which were ok and guacamole appetizer. While they did give me quite an amount the taste was a little off it needed either more lemon or salt which I did go ahead and add more off. I love the mont! It has an amazing atmosphere and the apps/drinks are delicious. I have noticed the past few times I have gone that the service was not polite. The last time I went the waitress greeted us by saying "what do you want?" Not a great start but eh I figured if I was overly nice and made it a point to be kind to her then maybe she would return the favor. No. The remainder of the meal after every interaction my table had with her, we felt like we were inconveniencing her. Whether you went to the greatest school of all time (OU) or not, one cannot escape the feel of youth and nostalgia more perfectly mixed than at The Mont. Bricks, vines, stained glass windows, and the most charming patio I have ever been to make this place magical. Inside is a darker atmosphere with wooden booths and tables. Special 'nook' areas can be reserved for parties -which I highly recommend if there are under 20 people who need a seat. As I mentioned, the patio is perfect. Lots of shade from the surrounding trees and table umbrellas with misters of plenty. Food in general is A-OK. Basic burgers and American food is what you'll find. If you haven't heard about their queso yet, I'm honored you're hearing it from me first: THE QUESO WILL ROCK YOUR WORLD. It's so good you'll want one order for yourself.
