The Mont is always a must when we're in town (visiting family, football games, several times a year) but it has gone SEVERELY downhill, no longer a must because we won't be back. If I could give zero stars I would. Stopped here for drinks & lunch on the patio on June 18th. Dirty dining areas and dirty stinky bathroom. ALL waitstaff looked like they worked out before work or just rolled out of bed, leggings, gym shorts, tank tops, oversized tshirts, hair that looked like it hadn't been brushed none of which was appealing for someone who is SERVING food and drinks. I highly suggest a dress code or at least require staff to wear matching shirts. Our server was extremely rude and treated us like we were an inconvenience. How hard can it be to show up looking presentable and treat your customers with respect, apparently for The Mont employees it's a hard task. It has been about a year and a half since I have been to The Mont and I have really missed this longtime hangout. I have really been looking forward to a Swirl and queso but sadly was pretty disappointed. The food was fairly good but the service was pretty bad. Additionally, it was FREEZING in the restaurant. I had mentioned something to the server as did the group of college coeds sitting behind me and the manager changed the thermostat for maybe 5 minutes then blasted the cold air again. I mentioned to the server what happened and he just kind of shrugged. I decided to just finish my swirl quickly (brain freeze) and left. Pretty sad experience for a long time customer and unless it is 115 degrees outside, I probably won't be back for a long time. The Mont is the type of bar every college town should have. It's got a large comfortable patio, and an interesting indoor seating area. There are typical tables, a few booths, and a bar that allows smoking. The tables are small, but they work for the dishes The Mont serves, as well as late night drinking. The circular booth is fun if you have a big group. Check out the signed books on the wall, but be advised, some of the signatures/drawing are x-rated.... The food is quality bar type food. The queso is super popular, and it's good. I don't think I share the love for it a lot of Normanites/Sooners do, but it's good. I like their pico as well. The chicken fried steak is another great dish, and included in the blue plate special it's a great value. You can't go wrong with a burger either. Additionally, don't sleep on The Mont's Tex Mex. Service is typically solid, even during busy times, such as lunch, game days, or Thursdays during school. Small bathrooms, so expect a line if the place is crowded. This place is a Norman legend. You absolutely must have two things while here. The queso con chili and a swirl. The rest of the food is decent, but nothing to write home about. This is an institution in Norman. Old people come here to be seen as younger and more hip than they really are. College kids come here because it's fun outside on the patio, drinking Swirls. The truth is, it has mediocre food, mediocre service, horrible parking and a truly jacked up bathroom set up. Still, when one comes here, it's for this establishment's place in OU history. Four stars for the many many good times I have had here... but I generally go for the main drawcard... the outdoor patio. Great place to be in the summer when its sunny with a bit of breeze and they have the misters going. There's usually some good beer specials too... and honestly after you've tried a swirl beer really is the way to go. The food is OK and usually hits the spot after you're a few (or many) beers in but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. The place winds down a lot in the winter and you won't really see me there when it's cold... I find the inside seating kind of dark and dingy. read more

We got to the mont and ordered a strawberry margarita and water with lemon three "blue plate special" with chicken fried steak with an one with an extra side of mac and cheese and a one with an extra side of steamed veggies. First no lemon with the water and the pickles were very small considering it was 6 bucks . Maybe 12 pickles . So I asked for lemons and limes since they didnt bring them and a water. Server brings food out instead 20 mins later with no lemons or limes or water. Finished margarita far before she came back . Ask for lemons and water. The chicken fried steak was rubbery, 10× smaller than it used to be and the the breard was soggy. The mac and cheese tasted like it was it was over microwaved in an plastic container. Green beans tasted like they were dumped from a can but they usually taste like that . We didn't receive mashed potatoes on two plates. Still never brought my water. Margarita tasted good like strawberry but no alcohol . Fries were cold . Basically everything sucked . Service and food . Lucky they refunded the blue plates but still had to pay for everything else. But basically wasted over an hour and a half for shit food and service . The mont was usually good but I'm not sure what happened to them . New cooks and servers suck . We did have some good times at The Mont before, indeed a nice spot for a chill night with some cold beers. But my last experience there was totally a bummer and Im definitely not going to come back there. The waitress was rude to us. I asked for a list of beers and she pointed me to the entrance and as an newbie in the playgound of local beers, I asked her for any good suggestion and she just repeated her answer: it's over there. Could have gave me a better answer with a better attitude I suppose? Then when we moved on to order some snacks, she kept saying she would be right back and i mean that night the Mont was empty, if it was busy I would feel understandable for its neglectful service. But what really made me mad. Was that the waitress PURPOSEFULLY CHANGED MY TICKET. I did not leave any tips because i was so unhappy with the service. The price was 5.51, and she changed it into 8.51 to take away an extra 2.49 from my wallet. I was really mad about that action. Tips are not mandatory, and I am a generous tipper so I will tip super well if waiters/waitresses treat me with decency and friendliness. This is to me, a fraud, it's an act of stealing and what really dissaponted me was that even the manager did not give me an apology. The manager told me if I did not want to leave any tips they would take it off and i made a complaint when the transaction as still in pending. No refund was given. No sorry was spoken before she hung up the phone. And Im not gonna call back because 2.49 is not really a big deal. What matters here is the lack of respects. read more

This has been one of my favorite places to eat and drink in Norman for over 30 years. We love to sit on the patio, hang out with friends and just enjoy the atmosphere. But the last three times we have eaten there it has not been good. From food just tasting horrible to the service. I mean how do you screw up a hamburger or a BLT? The mont is one of our favorite places in Norman! You cannot beat the atmosphere or "Sooner Swirls". We bring all of our friends and family who visit to the mont to get the full Norman experience. You must start with queso and a swirl. Also love their spinach and artichoke dip. It also had chickens, and great flavor. I typically get the soft chicken tacos. Comes with 3 tacos, fajita chicken meat, lettuce and tomatoes. I've also had the salads and several sandwiches. I've never had a bad experience here before. Staff and servers are always super nice. This is THE iconic restaurant in Norman and I cannot count the number of times I've been here. We LOVE the patio, especially with the new heaters so we can sit outside even on a cool night. The misters and fans are awesome during the summer. The BEST thing about The Mont is the Swirl. That iconic drink is so pretty (swirled crimson and cream colors) and tastes so good...we bring lots of our friends here. The food is also the best.
